Looking for the Helpers

Of all the memes floating around Facebook in the past two days there was one that caught my eye. It was a quote from Fred Rogers (Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood).

“When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, "Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping." To this day, especially in times of "disaster," I remember my mother's words and I am always comforted by realizing that there are still so many helpers – so many caring people in this world.”

A quote like this cannot console those who are grieving the loss of family members. It cannot help the fact that difficult times forever change us. But is a comforting reminder and obvious proof that there are more helpful people in the world than there are unhelpful; more healthy people in the world than there are tragically ill.

The concept of "looking for the helpers" translates into our daily lives as well.

In tarot readings I often see cards come up to identify a querent's helpers. Sometimes it is necessary for a querent to come to understand that they do have helpers around them. Often we feel so lonely and helpless we can't see that we are surrounded by people ready to help.

For many people it is easier to be the helper than to ask for help. We all need to be and do both; to ask for help and to be helped.

We have spiritual helpers, too. Call them angels, guides, guardians, or deities. There are energies around us that we can call on for assistance.

In tarot sometimes the actual cards are helpers in that some cards assist us in interpreting the cards around them.

We can all use tarot to find our helpers if we are not sure who or where they are.

Simply shuffle and ask a question about your helpers and pull a card, or a few cards, to give you the answer.

Try questions like these.

Who can I count on for help?

What kind of help do I need?

Who in the spirit world is helping me?

With what do I need help?

How can I ask for help?

How can I manifest more helpful people in my life?

We can also use tarot to discover ways to help others by asking questions like these>

How can I help (insert name)?

What does (inset name) need from me?

Tarot, and tarot readers, can be great helpers. And tarot can help us find the help we need.
