Mother's Day

The EmpressI don't like Mother's Day.  I do like presents and such, and I like being a mom.  My mother didn't like Mother's Day either.  To her, it seemed contrived.  To me, it seems like "Annual Brush Your Teeth Day."  It's weird to take one day a year to do something you should do every day; appreciate your mom.

Our mothers are very specifically unique relationships.  We may have other people who mother us- stepmothers, aunts, godmothers, grandmothers, etc.  But there is only ever just one person who gave birth to us.

In the natural order of things, that person dies before we do.  It's the way it's supposed to be.  But when it happens, it leaves an unfillable hole.  That unfillable hole is as much a part of the natural  and universal experience of having a mother as any other.

Not every mother is a good mother, or a loving mother.  But every mother is a life-giver.

The power to bring life into the world is awesome- in the true meaning of the word.  And it is as common as dirt.

And yet we experience our relationships with our moms, and our kids, as being, special, and unique in all the world.  That's the magick of it, I guess.

So, in honor of the day, I contributed to my 78 Cards Project.  What card did I write about?  The Empress, of course.

Check it out on my main website, here!
