There are so many talented people in the world, and so many possible talents.

But not every talented person is able to make a career of their gifts, even if that is want they want.

Why are some talented people so successful, and others who are equally talented so frustrated?

The truth is this. Past a certain point success isn’t only about talent. It’s also about confidence, and a sense of worthiness.

Many talented people do not believe they are worthy of success. They say to themselves “Who am I to think I could do that?”

My answer is often, “Well, it has to be someone. Why not you?”

I think our celebrity-worshipping culture has taught us to believe that some people are special, and deserving of special status.

But what determines who is special? What determines who is deserving?

On a spiritual level the matter is complicated by our understanding that true spirituality requires a bit of humility. How can we be humble and confident at the same time?

The answer is that humility doesn’t equal a lack of self-esteem. Humility is about grace, honor, gratitude and reverence.

Each of us is talented in our own way. Some people are very happy sharing their talents in a more private setting, amongst their friends and family.

Others want to share their talents in a larger venue. To do that, you must believe that you are worthy of success.

It’s not wrong, or ego-driven, to want to share your talents with the world. If you have the tenacity, the talent, the drive and the confidence, you have a good shot to make your dreams come true.

But one this is for sure. If you don’t believe in yourself, no one else will believe in you.
