Authenticity

Social media influencers clowning for the camera.

There is much conversation about what it means to be authentic as a human being. When it comes to the finer things in life, we crave authenticity. We want the real experience, not a pale copy. In the tarot world specifically, the internet is full of opportunities to purchase pirated knock-off tarot decks at the expense of the artists and creators. In this case, authenticity is the only ethical choice.

But what does it mean when we say a person is authentic? Some people claim authenticity as a tactic of manipulation. Others enjoy being cruel in the guise of “just being real.” Those attempts to use the concept of authenticity as a shield or a tool can sometimes be easy to spot. Other times, we may fall prey to those hurtful manipulations.

Some people enjoy presenting themselves with many cosmetic enhancements. Does that mean they aren’t authentic? I would argue that part of authenticity is learning how we want to present ourselves to the world and being brave enough to do that.

Authentic people have a genuine nature that makes them feel trustworthy and approachable, grounding us in a world often filled with facades.

People who naturally seem authentic know themselves and are comfortable with themselves. We are all always a work in progress, and authentic people know this and are willing to do the work.

Authentic people allow themselves to evolve and seek personal change. Reassessing a position or belief and changing is part of being authentic.

Authenticity is the natural outgrowth of self-awareness and self-acceptance.

Self-awareness is critical, and divination can be an excellent tool for it. However, there is a danger that the journey toward self-awareness can turn into self-absorption. Our journey to self-awareness cannot happen in a vacuum. Our self-awareness must lead us to compassion and help us understand how we want to show up for others.

When we have that self-awareness, we can be authentic.

How can you find out what is happening in the lounges?
I try to keep you informed through this weekly newsletter and social media posts. However, it can be difficult because new lounge sessions are constantly popping up.

If you are on Facebook, join the StaarCon Community Group. It is a private group, and lounge sessions are always posted there.

For your convenience, I also post all the lounge sessions in the easily accessible Accelevents lobby.

Coming up soon in the lounges, we have a focus on Court cards! On May 5, María Alviz Hernando presents Court Cards for Dummies in her lounge. I did not take this into consideration when I scheduled my Court card class for April 21, but I think it is divinely inspired. We will have the opportunity to learn two different perspectives on Court cards.

StaarCon 5

At StaarCon, most presentations are 45 minutes long. Intensive presentations occur in two or three parts. Over the past two years, we have offered intensives on Fridays only. For StaarCon 5, intensives will be offered on all three days. Some of our intensive presenters will be Gita Rash, Marion Kirk, Peter Coe, and Heather Gaffney-Darnell.

Heather is joining us for the first time! Heather, a North Carolina tarot reader and energy worker, will lead us in a deep and playful exploration of our inner selves called “Soul-Spelunking with Tarot.” We look forward to meeting Heather and learning from her, and we are excited about all the intensive learning and experiences we are planning for StaarCon 5.

Finding Your Authentic Tarot Voice

Whether you are an aspiring professional reader, tarot author, influencer, or simply working to be a good reader for your friends and family, you must find your authentic voice.

Even if your use of tarot is only personal, you must be able to deliver that reading to yourself.

Even if you use other methods of divination, you still need to find your authentic voice.

Practice and patience are essential here, but I have one tip that may help you.

When you read for yourself, do it aloud. Speak the reading aloud to yourself as if you were giving it to another person.

Creating a video of your reading can be a valuable tool, even if it's just the cards and your voice. Over time, this practice will create a fabulous video tarot journal for you and allow for self-reflection and improvement.

When you practice speaking your self-readings, you will notice two things.

First, you will be inspired to say things as energy and information flows. This means you are tapping into greater wisdom.

Second, you will begin to hear your authentic voice as a diviner. This is an excellent step toward developing the tools you need to be a proficient reader for yourself and others.

From Around the Web

Here is a four-card tarot spread to help with self-awareness. It was first published in 2020, referencing the astrological references of that time. Yet, I think the spread is great to use anytime you want to dig deep.

I love the tarot spreads designed by Emerald Lotus Divination. Here is one for living authentically.

On April 26 and 27, comedian Karen Rontowski will perform a tarot-based comedy show in Boca Raton. Many of your local tarot friends will be there!

Making Magic

Lack of self-love and confidence is a significant cause of lack of personal authenticity.

How can we work with energy to make self-love and confidence easier?

We can change energy by being physically close to colors, crystals, and cards.

It's crucial to approach this with clear intention and full acknowledgment.

Which color do you associate with confidence?

Which color do you associate with self-love?

Wear clothing of those colors and acknowledge your intention as you do.

I like to use yellow for confidence and blue for self-love. You can burn colored candles as well.

Many stones help with confidence and self-love. I particularly like citrine and carnelian for confidence and rose quartz and sodalite for self-love. You can carry stones with you. Touch them from time to time and affirm their purpose.

Which cards do you associate with self-love and confidence?

I like the Nine of Pentacles, Seven of Wands, Hierophant, and Chariot for confidence. I like the Lovers and the Two of Cups for self-love.

We can wear tarot images or carry them with us. We can decorate our space with them or place a special card on an altar with intention.

These are simple ways to use magic to increase your ability to love and have confidence in yourself. Then, you can more easily become your most authentic self.
