Nature

As the seasons change we often turn our attention to the natural world around us. Whether home is the city or the country, the north or the south, we are always surrounded by the natural world.

Many time we draw comfort from the song of a bird or the dance of a butterfly lighting on a flower. Most people agree that an appreciation of nature enhances our wellbeing of body, mind and spirit.

When we take the time to notice the beauty of nature around us we remember that we are part of that magnificent creation. When we watch the cycles of the natural world we learn valuable lessons for life.

Many people feel themselves influenced by the cycles of the moon. Ancient lore suggests that seeds planted at specific moon phases will flourish.

Nature speaks to us, giving us personal wisdom and messages. Nature teaches us about the cycles of life. Nature supports us and sustains us by providing both physical and spiritual nourishment. Nature heals us by providing the medicine of crystals and herbs.

The more we pay attention to the natural world and avail ourselves of its wisdom the healthier we will be of body, mind and spirit.

Natural Divination

How many times have we seen a bird or a butterfly and knew intuitively that we were receiving a message from a loved one in spirit? How often have shapes in the clouds given us a message from Spirit that we needed? When we see an animal in nature, don’t we often take it as a particular omen?

To derive spiritual meaning from the natural world is an ancient behavior. There are many traditions of divination that rely simply on observing nature – the wind in the grass or the flight of geese, for instance.

In modern times we have many divination methods that use energies from nature, such as oracles based on crystals or animals. Tarot also reflects the natural world in that its structure is based on the four elements, Earth, Air, Fire and Water. Astrology also works with the four elements, as well as the movements of the stars and planets.

Many of us identify with specific animals, plants or gemstones. These become guardians to us; we feel protected and guided by their energies.

Sometimes simply by walking through the woods, gardening, watching the night sky or visiting the beach we are able to calm our thoughts and listen to the voice of Spirit.

There are so many ways for us to gain wisdom from nature if we simply pay attention.

The Week in Review

This week on my Dark Forest Blog I continue my thoughts about nature and spirituality with the post The Crystal Controversy.

On the Tarot Topics Community Blog I have another installment in my video series Answers to your Questions about Tarot. This time the question is about Tarot de Marseille and tarot history.

On my personal blog, Tarot Trends, I made a list of Fifteen Things Tarot Can Do.

From Around the Web

Helene Martz, one of my guests on the Psychic Café, wrote a post summarizing her advice to new readers, as we discussed on the Psychic Café.

From the First Ourselves blog, here is a post I enjoyed called Finding Healing in Love.

Did you know that each full moon of the year has its own name? Find out more about the different full moons here!

September Global Tarot Circle

Global Tarot Circle met Thursday, September 12. We has a nice group of people from all over North America, including Canada, Connecticut and Florida. As usual we started with introductions and “burning questions.”

A burning question can be a question about tarot or tarot reading, or a personal question that can be answered with a tarot reading. We answered a few questions about tarot reading and quite organically started what will probably become a new tradition for Global Tarot Circle.

Many participants wanted an answer to this simple question “What does the Universe want me to know?” We each pulled one card to give each person a number of “answers from the Universe.”

These are the kinds of exercises that we really enjoy in Tarot Circle. From them we derive personal insight, new understanding of the cards and a wonderful sense of fellowship.

Our short workshop was in honor of back-to-school time. The question was “What cards do you associate with education?” We discussed the different cards that could indicate education, study and learning, including Fool, Magician, High Priestess, Hierophant, Chariot, Hermit, Eight of Pentacles, Three of Pentacles and the Pages. From the group of cards that we associate with education we each pulled one card at random to determine a current personal focus for learning.

Our next Global Tarot Circle will meet Tuesday, October 15 at 7 pm. For log in information visit the event listing on the Tarot Circle website. All are welcome!

What’s up at the Psychic Café?

On September 15 at the Psychic Café we were all about the Psychic Business. Jenna Matlin of Queen of Wands Tarot and Helene Martz of Intuitive Goddess joined me to discuss the ins and out of professional tarot and psychic work. You can watch the video in archive on the Tarot Topics news site.

Next weekend I will be finishing my short trip to Orlando and so the Psychic Café will feature an encore presentation from April 28, 2103. This show was a favorite amongst viewers. It features an interview with Mary Nale, founder and editor of Attune Magazine, and a trip to Hoop Camp!

Sticks and Stones

When we were young most of us inherently knew the power of a special stone, stick or shell. We would come home from a day at the beach with our pockets heavy. We would find sticks and rocks in the woods that we were sure had special powers and were meant specifically for us.

As we got older some of us forgot about the power inherent in these natural items. Then some of us ended up in New Age shops taking classes about the healing powers of the Earth.

Every natural object, every stick, stone and shell, has a vibration. These items all offer healing and support to us. We knew this as children. When we remember the power of a special shell, when we learn to use natural items for support, we find healing from the natural world.

Your One-Card Weekly Reading

Your One-Card reading this week is the Two of Pentacles.

Here we see a person juggling against the backdrop of a stormy sea.

The person is juggling within the leminscate, or infinity sign. To me this means that even if our pace is hectic and our resources limited we have the ability to continue doing what we must do for as long as we must.

The Two of Pentacles indicates a limitation of resources. You may not have enough money, enough time or enough energy. But even with those limitations you have the skill to keep going and to make it work.

You can keep juggling with a smile on your face, and you can even make it look easy!

When you see the Two of Pentacles know that the Universe recognizes your frustration with your limitations. But the Universe also recognizes your ability to deftly handle your situation. Make sure you recognize your  strength and ability as well.
