Authentic You!

Who are you, really? What is at the very core of your being?  These aren’t always easy questions to answer!

Very often we become the people we think others want us to be. Sometimes it is scary to imagine and explore the inner self.

Certainly part of what makes each of us an individual are our experiences over time – the things we learn, the things we do and the things that happen to us.

When we really look at ourselves, beneath the expectation of others and our learned responses and habits, what do we find?

We find the core – the unique, authentic self. Some might see that core self as the essence of our soul – that part of us who existed before our birth, and will exist after the body dies.

Perhaps the core self carries with it a sense of purpose, or calling, for this lifetime. Perhaps the reason so many people don’t have a sense of purpose in life is that so many people are disconnected from their core, and are unable to access the authentic self.

Divination, metaphysics and spirituality seek to give us the tools we need to find, claim and honor the authentic self.  Astrology and tarot, for instance, help us understand our traits, our talents and our motivation. We become able to separate authentic responses from learned responses. We become able to accept ourselves and nurture ourselves.

In relationships, we become able to attract appropriate people into our lives, and communicate with them honestly.

The more authentic you can be, the more you can authentically enjoy life!

Tarot for Self-Discovery

Here are three ways to use tarot for self-discovery. Of course there are an infinite number of ways to use tarot for this purpose. Tarot is inherently a tool of self-discovery.

1. Find your birth number by adding all the digits in your full birthdate together. When you get a double-digit number, add those two digits together until you get a single digit, one through nine. Which Major Arcana tarot card corresponds with this number? This is your birth card, and will give you some insights into your personality and your soul’s purpose.

2. Look through the deck and choose the cards you like best, and the cards you don’t like as well. Look at the cards you have chosen. Do the cards you like reflect positive things about yourself? Do the cards you don’t like reflect things about yourself you would like to change?

3. Shuffle the cards, and pull cards at random to answer these deep questions.

Who am I?

What is my life purpose at this time?

What am I here to learn?

These three techniques will allow tarot to communicate with your higher self and your higher power, to help you find your deepest truths.

The Week in Review

This week I am honored to be featured in a video interview on Daily Tarot Girl Kate’s blog. We had a wonderful time talking with each other, and it shows! I was impressed with the range of questions Kate asked me.

On my personal blog, Tarot Trends, I wrote about seven tarot cards that can indicate timing.

On my Dark Forest blog, I wrote about Facebook memes, and one in particular that sparked my snark.

On the Tarot Topics Community Blog I shared a video from my “Answers to Your Questions about Tarot” series. In this video, I interpret a really interesting tarot reading that answers the question “Who speaks through tarot?

From Around the Web

I’m celebrating lists this week, so here are three lists I thought were interesting. I hope you do, too.

From Body Mind Green, here are “25 Habits of People who are Happy, Healthy and Successful.”

From Beliefnet, here are “Six Games to Play with your Journal.”

From The Mind Unleashed here are “Thirty Traits of an Empath.”

Finding your Core

Finding your core isn’t easy. Carl Jung said “There is no coming to consciousness without pain. People will do anything, no matter how absurd, in order to avoid facing their own Soul. One does not become enlightened by imagining figures of light, but by making the darkness conscious.”

There are many ways to find your core, from traditional psychotherapy to shamanic journeying to tarot. To begin the journey of self-discovery, remember that you are here for a reason, and you are you for a reason.

Remember to breathe. Meditate, hike, do yoga, and exercise. This is often the gateway to clarity.

Remember that your understanding of who you are may very well come from other people’s perceptions. Appreciate the people in your life, but reserve the right to be who you really are.

Learning Tarot: Judgement

Judgement, card twenty, is the penultimate card of the Major Arcana. The image is the Christian Judgement Day. An angel blows a horn and souls rise, ready to be born into the new world.

In many ways, Judgement is about an ending, and a new beginning. Judgement asks us to evaluate our past, put closure to what we must, celebrate our accomplishments and move on.

Judgement instructs us to be open to something new, and to release the past.

Judgement can also discuss spiritual communication – hearing the voice of the angels.

In matters of career, Judgement can be about hearing your calling or finishing a successful project.

Judgement can tell us that something is coming to an end, generally successfully.

As the penultimate card, Judgement prepares us for the completion of our journey toward spiritual enlightenment. Without this process of evaluation, closure and release there is no way to move to the place of spiritual attainment.

Next week we will explore spiritual attainment when we discuss the final card of the Major Arcana, the World.

Your One-Card Weekly Reading

Your One-Card Weekly Reading is the Ten of Pentacles.

This is traditionally the “castle card,” and often addresses real estate issues. If there are things to attend to in your home, now is the time to do that. Repair, redecorate and refresh your home.

The Ten of Pentacles is also the card of ancestry and legacy. Now would be a great time to research your geology, to connect with your ancestors in spirit or spend some time with your kids.

The Ten of Pentacles is the herald of good fortune in wealth and in family. If you have that good fortune now, be grateful for it. If you are still waiting for this type of fortune, be hopeful.

The Ten of Pentacles reminds us that lasting success is built over time.
