Refinement

If you follow astrology at all, you know we are now in another Mercury retrograde until July First. While many people bemoan the greater tendency to have missed connections and poor communication during a Mercury Rx, it is also a great time to clear away the clutter.

Writers love to edit during a Mercury retrograde. It’s an easy time to rearrange your wardrobe and get rid of the clothes you no longer wear.

Internally, now is a time to refine your goals. Release the thoughts and beliefs that no longer serve you. Whittle away what doesn’t work until you are left with clarity of purpose and intention.

It’s interesting that the word “refinement” is synonymous with “quality” and elegance” and yet refinement is actually the process of taking away the parts that aren’t useful.

Mercury retrograde is not a time to be feared. It is a time to move slowly and carefully through life. Be clear in your thoughts, words and actions, and use the Mercury retrograde energy to create refinement in your life.

Tarot Cards that Refine Us

There are a few cards that carry the message of refinement. That is, cards that may tell us it is time to let go of what doesn’t work, to release the things that hold us back, and to be more specific about the ways in which we achieve our goals. When you see these cards, consider the process of refining your life.

Any difficult card reversed, such as the Three, Eight, Nine, Ten of Swords, as well as the Devil reversed, can indicate taking the action that is necessary to remove oneself from a difficult situation.

The Eight of Cups teaches us to leave behind the emotions that no longer serve us.

The Eight of Pentacles teaches us to practice our skills to create perfection.

Temperance teaches us to forge the perfect and unique blend that works precisely.

Judgement teaches us to evaluate and learn from our past.

In what other tarot cards do you see the process of personal refinement?

The Week in Review

This week I actually saw a new movie during its opening weekend. Find out what I thought about “Edge of Tomorrow” on my Dark Forest Blog.

On my Tarot Topics Community Blog, I shared some ideas about working with small tarot spreads.

On my personal blog, Tarot Trends, I wrote about the process of self-reading and why it’s important. Read “Find Yourself with Divination.”

From Around the Web

Zuri, of AskZuri.com, has some information about the current Mercury Retrograde for us. I really liked her tips for surviving Mercury Rx, as well as her explanation of Cancer’s influence on this particular retrograde.

Here is a profound, potentially controversial post especially for women, about “Why it’s Crucial for Women to Heal the Mother Wound.” I would love to hear your opinion on this one!

From Holistic Arts Journal, some memories of Maya Angelou from Dr. Wayne Dyer and Diane Rehm.

Refinement Tarot Spread

Whether we are working on a creative project, learning a new skill, building a career, developing intuition or coming to a next level of enlightenment, we always need to be refining ourselves. During this Mercury retrograde, perform this simple tarot spread to give you information for your refinement.

Arrange the cards in a row, left to right.

Card 1. What it is you must release at this time.

Card 2. How releasing it will help you (or your project).

Card 3. Advice to help you release.

What’s Up at the Psychic Café?

On Sunday, June 8th, Ambika Devi was my guest as we discussed tarot, metaphysics, her upcoming trip to Peru, and most importantly, her new novel, “Lilith.”

“Lilith” is getting a lot of critical praise. It is an ambitious first novel that teaches spiritual principles and references tarot!

You can watch the show in archive on the Tarot Topics News Site.

On Sunday, June 15, we will enjoy an encore presentation of our show featuring Arwen Lynch. Arwen is a writer, tarotist, internet TV host and vibrant joyseeker.

Learning Tarot: Ace of Cups

The suit of Cups is related to the element of Water. In metaphysics we associate Water with emotion, matters of the heart, feelings, depth, intuition, love, attitudes and relationships. Each of the Cups cards will speak of emotions, feelings, and matters of the heart, in some way.

In tarot, the Aces represent new beginnings, and the source, root and essence of the suit element, in this case, Water.

The Ace of Cups, therefore, can predict a new love.

The Ace of Cups can represent the high vibration of unconditional love.

The Ace of Cups can represent love in all its forms.

The Ace of Cups can represent the healed heart; the open heart chakra ready to give and receive love.

Archetypically, we might see the Ace of Cups as the Holy Grail from the legends of King Arthur.

With this card we begin a journey to understand the nature of love.

Next week we will continue our journey with the Two of Cups.

The Four Elements and the Major Arcana

The four elements of life are Earth, Air, Fire and Water. They each have metaphysical properties as well as physical properties.

The four elements correlate with the four suits of the Minor Arcana of the tarot. They also correlate with individual cards of the Major Arcana.

The term “Major Arcana” means “Greater Secrets.” The twenty-two cards of the Major Arcana contain the most spiritual messages and lessons of the tarot, and tell the story of our journey through life.

When we learn the elemental associations for each of the Major Arcana cards, we have a clear way to understand these important cards.

This 75 minute webinar will help the tarot student more fully understand the four elements. It will provide a deeper way to comprehend each of the Major Arcana cards. The student will be able to more fully interpret the Major Arcana cards, whether reading for yourself or others.

For Log-in information, visit the event listing on the Continuing Education website.
