The Element of Water

The Four Elements provide a spiritual framework for many esoteric systems, including tarot and astrology. When we learn about the Four Elements, we learn to connect with them to find balance, healing and support.

The element of Water rules our emotions, our feelings and our intuition. The element of Water helps us to find our emotional balance, and supports us as we learn to heal our hearts and embrace unconditional love.

During the summertime, we often have the ability to connect with water in a physical way; at the beach, kayaking, or swimming, for instance. Whether out in nature or in our own homes, each time we connect with water we are in sacred space. When we wash, we change our emotional energy. When we drink water, we refresh the emotional body as well as the physical body.

Pay attention to the ways in which you connect with water physically, and see how water brings healing, insight and emotional balance. In meditation, ask the element of Water to cleanse your heart, strengthen your intuition and surround you with love in all its forms.

Your Conscious Connection with Water

As you go through your daily life, consider all the ways in which you connect with water. In cooking, in cleaning, in nature and in recreation, we are constantly surrounded by water. Our bodies are made of water.

Each time you encounter water, make an effort to recognize it for its metaphysical properties, as well as its physical ones. Welcome the element of Water into your life.

Whenever you interact with water, take a moment to breathe, center and focus.

Ask the element of Water to cleanse and refresh you.

Ask the element of Water to open and heal your heart.

Ask the element of Water to guide your intuition.

Through this simple daily awareness you have the opportunity to bring love, guidance and healing into your life, with the element of Water.

The Week in Review

This past week I was a guest on the Jupiter Frequency radio show on LifeScapes Radio. The Jupiter Frequency is the radio show of Jupiter Gardens Press, the publisher of my first two tarot books. I had a great time on the show, discussing my books, tarot, writing and publishing with Mary Caelsto. You can listen to the show in archive if you missed it!

It’s summer, and so we can expect lots of new romance in the air. On my Dark Forest Blog, I shared “The Truth about New Relationships.” You may be surprised by what you read!

On my personal blog, Tarot Trends, I wrote about “Three Cards that Help us Look to the Past.” Looking back isn’t always a bad thing, as long as we don’t get stuck there!

On my Tarot Topics Community Blog, I answered another question about tarot, with a written blog and a video. This time the question is from a professional reader, and is about a fairly controversial topic. Check out my answer, and let me know what you think!

From Around the Web

While on-line computer-generated readings can’t replace a reading with a live reader, it’s so much fun to explore the different on-line readings available to us. This week I found Goddess Flight, where you can get a Free Animal Spirits Oracle Reading.

Here is a great, short piece about the chakras, with an emphasis on the Heart Chakra that really resonated for me.

How many yoga mats do you have? Here is a really interesting article from Yoga International, about yoga mats, their purpose and their history. I would what you will think about “Yoga Mats: Are They Really Necessary?

The Element of Water in Tarot

The suit of Cups is associated with the element of Water. The Cups cards will all refer to feelings and emotions.

There are also five Major Arcana cards that are typically associated with the element of Water. They are The High Priestess, the Chariot, the Hanged Man, Death and the Moon.

By looking at the tarot cards associated with Water we can develop a deeper understand of the cards, and of the element.

Minor Arcana Water Exercise

Look through the pip cards (ace through ten) of the suit of Cups. What feeling or emotion does each card express?

Now look through the four Court cards of the suit of Cups. Each Court rank suggests a particular way to grow in our understanding of the element. At the heart of the element of Water is our ability to understand unconditional love. Each of the four Court cards offers a way to grow in that understanding.

The Page of Cups encourages us to learn and communicate about love.

The Knight of Cups invites us to actively pursue love in all its forms.

The Queen of Cups teaches us to nurture love in our own heart, and in the hearts of others.

The King of Cups tasks us to be a leader and teacher in the spiritual nature of love.

Which of these four cards offers the most appropriate message for you today? Shuffle just the four Cups Court cards and pull one at random to find out!

Major Arcana Water Exercise

Take the five Major Arcana water cards and shuffle them. Pull one card at random. Let the card answer this question.

What do I need to know about my current ability to connect with the element of Water and welcome emotional healing into my life?

Learning Tarot: Six of Cups

In the Ride-Waite-Smith (RWS) image, we see a large child giving flowers to a small child. They are in the safety of a closed courtyard.

Key words for the Six of Cups include nostalgia, happy memories, reunion, looking to the past, past connections and returning home.

The Six of Cups can predict a reunion, or can encourage us to reconnect with our past.

The Six of Cups can remind us of our roots, or can suggest that we are being influenced by things of the past.

The Six of Cups can refer to a connection between people that comes from a shared past.

The Six of Cups, when poorly aspected, can suggest that we are stuck in the past.

The Six of Cups is about our personal history.

The Six of Cups can refer to the patterns and habits that have become ingrained in us.

When you see the Six of Cups in a reading, know that there is something about the past that is influencing the present.

Next week will with explore the Seven of Cups.

Your One-Card Weekly Reading

Your One-Card Reading is the Two of Swords.

Traditionally, the Two of Swords is about the need to make decisions.

In the Rider-Waite-Smith (RWS) image, we see the figure is blindfolded. She must make her choices by looking within, rather than being influenced by others.

She has crossed off her heart. This is a decision to be made with logic, rather than emotion.

In the Crowley-Harris-Thoth (CHT) deck, the Two of Swords is the card of “peace.”

This week, be logical rather than emotional as you make decisions.

Trust your insight.

If you don’t know all the answers, or aren’t able to make a decision, be at peace nonetheless.

Trust that, when the time is right, you will be ready to make the right decision.
