Release Limitations

Do you limit your own success? Have you accepted other peoples’ limited views of who you are and what you can do? Do you hang on to beliefs that keep you from your happiness? Most of us engage in self-limiting behavior. The trick is to be conscious of the limiting beliefs we accept as fact.

“It’s impossible to get a job.” “No one would want a relationship with me” “All men are the same.” “I can’t learn how to do that.” “Bad things always happen to me.”

Pay attention to the things you tell yourself. Are they true? Are they helpful? Consider what will happen when you release your limitations!

Two Tarot Cards to Release Your Limitations

The Devil and the Eight of Swords are very helpful cards. In meditation, you can use these images to help rid yourself of anxious, self-limiting thoughts.

Let’s start with the Eight of Swords. In meditation, see yourself as the character in the card, blindfolded, bound and in a cage made of swords.

Remember that in the language of tarot, those swords are the thoughts and words that limit you.

Think about the exact thoughts and words that you hold in your mind that are limiting to you.

Now, find a way to release your bonds, remove your blindfold and remove those swords!

In the Devil image, we see the human captives have their hands free. The chains around their necks are loose.

What unhealthy thoughts and behaviors are your devil?

In your meditation, lift off your chains and walk away!

Repeat these meditations as often as is necessary to help you remove limiting thinking from your life.

The Week in Review

This week on my Dark Forest blog I wrote a short piece about keeping inner peace.

On my personal blog, Tarot Trends, I wrote about the spiritual implications of reading and teaching tarot professionally. Read Money for Tarot.

On my Tarot Topics Community Blog I shared a written and video piece in my “Answers to your Questions about Tarot” series. This time, my topic is “Objectivity.”

Also on the Community Blog, Joanne Matthew shared some thoughts about what can happen when we interpret tarot as a group. Read “Too Many Cooks.”

From Around the Web

Tarotist Jean Redman and I are often on the same page. Last week my newsletter topic was “Dreamtime.” At the very same time I was writing that, Jean was writing this fabulous blogpost on a similar topic. Read “Discovering Your Dreams Through the Tarot.”

From Discover Magazine, here’s an interesting article about the way our ancestors’ experiences affect us.

From Elephant Journal, here are ten steps to help you meditate.

Test Your Limits Tarot Spread

We all have real limitations, and perceived limitations. The trick is to know what your true limitations are, and work within them, while never allowing yourself to be limited unnecessarily.

Here is a tarot spread to help you figure out what your limitations really are.

Think about an area of your life where you are expanding, setting goals or trying to grow.

Arrange the cards in a square, starting with the upper left as card one, upper right as card two, and lower right as card three.

Card One: My ultimate goal or vision.

Card Two: What is truly possible for me.

Card Thee: The artificial limitations I have set for myself.

Card Four: How I can reach my highest potential.

Learning Tarot: Ace of Swords

This week we begin our journey through the suit of Swords.

In most tarot decks, the suit of Swords is associated with the element of Air. Air rules the powers of the mind, including our logic, our intelligence, our integrity and our communication.

Therefore, all Swords cards will somehow relate to our thoughts, our ability to trust and our words.

In tarot, Aces are about new beginnings, or the source or essence of the element of the suit.

The Ace of Swords, then, is a new truth, a new discovery, a new way of thinking, or a new idea.

The Ace of Swords can also be about getting to the bottom of problem, or finding a solution.

The Ace of Swords can be about speaking or writing.

The Ace of Swords reminds us to do the right thing.

Next week, we will explore the Two of Swords, often called the card of “peace.”

Your One-Card Weekly Reading

Your one-card reading this week is the Five of Cups.

Perhaps you have experienced a recent loss or disappointment.

Perhaps something is not going the way you would prefer.

The Five of Cups acknowledges your heartache, and reminds you to take time to grieve and to heal.

At the same time, the Five of Cups cautions you to remember your blessings, and to not spend too much time in a state of grief. While you have certainly experienced loss, you still have many reasons to be grateful.

This week, work to stay positive, and to stay focused on your gains, rather than your losses.

Be optimistic. Make the best of whatever situations surround you. There is every reason to be hopeful.
