Ready?

Most of us are a on a quest for improvement. We want to get fit, quit bad habits, make more money, have more fun and find more serenity. We want these things for ourselves, and for the people we love. We become frustrated when the people we love aren’t willing to make the changes they need to be better. Sometimes, we become frustrated with ourselves for the same reason.

Improvement requires change. Each change requires readiness. After we make the change, we often look back with regret. Why did I wait until I was fifty to join the gym and get in shape? Why didn’t I finished school when I was younger? It seems so easy now.

The reason it seems easy now is that we are ready. When we want something, we need to take time to get ready to make it happen. The people we care about won’t make changes until they are ready, either.

We have to accept each other, and ourselves, where we are right now. With others, sometimes that acceptance needs to be at a distance. With ourselves, we have the opportunity to let go of frustration, and turn that energy toward getting ready to grow!

Tarot Stories for Small Steps

Sometimes the key to getting ready for major change is to plan and execute your change in very small steps. If we focus on one thing at a time, we can accomplish something major in the end.

The enormity of the task in front of us may feel daunting. By separating our large goal into a series of small steps, we are more able to take it on with confidence.

The structure of tarot gives us insight into this. When we look at sections of the deck in numerical order, we learn a great deal about the process of change and growth.

Try looking at these tarot progressions. Look at each card in the sequence, in order. Think about the stories they tell. Do these stories reflect events in your life? How could these stories help you prepare for your next big change?

Notice that two Minor Arcana suits start with the Ten and progress to the Ace.

Magician through Chariot

Strength through Temperance

Devil through World

Ace of Pentacles through Ten of Pentacles

Ace of Cups through Ten of Cups

Ten of Swords through Ace of Swords

Ten of Wands through Ace of Wands

The Week in Review

This week the Tarot Blog Hop celebrated the Summer Solstice by discussing the Major Arcana. You can read my post about Temperance, and then follow the links to see what each blogger had to say about the card they chose.

On my Dark Forest Blog, I wrote about my love of sci-fi and pop culture. Read “Confessions of a Mystical Fangirl”.

From Around the Web

Wandering Oracle shared a very detailed Summer Solstice reading.

Here’s an oldie-but-goodie from Wild Women of the Universe, a Summer Solstice tarot spread from 2010. Although Summer Solstice 2015 was this past weekend, this is still a great spread to try this week!

In keeping with this week’s theme, here are “Fifteen Easy Ways to be Healthier” from Gaiam Life.

Get Ready with Tarot

It is interesting to ask tarot specific questions about levels of readiness. When you are hoping to motivate yourself to make an important change, shuffle your cards and ask a question like this.

“What is my readiness to look for a new job?”

Simply pull a card, and interpret it in context of the question.

If the card indicates a lack of readiness, or if you don’t feel ready, ask a question like this.

“What do I need to do to become ready?”

Pull a series of three cards to give insight and ideas to help you get ready!

What’s up at the Psychic Café?

You can view my interview with Hal Weeks on my YouTube channel. I am excited to share Wickwillow Tarot with you. Hal has some great ideas about art, images and symbols, and the way they work together to give us meaning.

Equally impressive is his understanding of all three major tarot traditions, and the way he wove them all into Wickwillow Tarot.

When you see the fabulous artwork of Wickwillow, you may want this deck in your collection!

Card Eight: The Grave

Card Eight, The Grave (or “Coffin” in some decks) is a card of endings and transformation. While it does not always refer to a physical death, most readers consider this card a negative one.

Card Eight can indicate the need for a rest, or the need for a change. It can also indicate the natural end of a cycle.

The playing card association for this card is the Nine of Diamonds. Traditionally, this would indicate an opportunity for financial gain. In context with this card, the financial gain may come from a change of job, a lawsuit or an inheritance.

Next week we will learn about a happy card, card Nine, Boquet.
