Do You Want to Play?

They say that play is the work of children. From play, children learn and grow. When we become adults, we forget about the importance of play.

When we play as adults, we stretch our bodies, our minds and our spirits. Whether our play is creative, athletic, social or just entertaining, play time is more than simply taking time off from work.

The word “recreation” means re-creation. When we play, we re-create ourselves. When we play together, we create our communities.

How do you play? With whom do you play? How does being playful strengthen you?

How Tarot Tells us to Have More Fun

There are many tarot cards that may express the need to lighten up, play more, and honor the inner child.

Of course, all four Pages could be invitations to experience their element from the open and playful perspective of a child.

The Knight of Wands suggests that you be willing to be silly, and to pursue fun.

The Fool invites you to be playful and bold, and to honor the inner child.

The Sun speaks to you of the vigor and fearlessness of youth.

The Six of Cups can invite you to play as a child, or to revisit the things you enjoyed in youth.

The Seven of Cups could remind you to be imaginative.

The Five and Six of Wands could talk about group play, and athletic competition.

The next time you see these cards in a reading, consider what message they may have about fun, playfulness and your inner child.

The Week in Review

This week, I participated in the Tarot Blog Hop. Our topic was Mercury, the Sun and Tarot. As you can imagine, we all took that topic in different directions! Read my post, and follow the links to see what the other bloggers did with it.

On my 78 Magickal Tools blog on PaganSquare, I share a piece about a group tarot healing ceremony.

From Around the Web

Jenna Matlin, who will be a speaker at Florida TarotCon, is an animal-lover. She has shared this great post about the Strength card in tarot, and the interaction between the human and the animal.

Gina Thies will also be a speaker at Florida TarotCon. You can listen to her podcast, Oracle Soup.

Another speaker at Florida TarotCon will be Corrine Kenner. From her, enjoy a slideshow of art from Pamela “Pixie” Colman Smith, the artist of the Waite-Smith Tarot.

Playing with the Cards

Tarot is a serious tool for personal growth, which began 500 years ago as a simple game. Sometimes, in our modern tarot work, we find that our understanding of the cards increases when we approach them with a playful spirit.
There are many ways to play with tarot, alone and with friends. Here are two playful exercises to try, but the playful things you can do with tarot are limited only by your imagination.

Story-telling. Pull four cards at random. Use the cards, in the order that you pulled them, to make up a fanciful story. You can work solely with the pictures, or include your interpretations to make your story.

Act it out. Pull a card, and create a physical action that, to you, represents the card. In this way, you can embody the tarot by dancing. If you are playing with other people, you can turn this into a game of “tarot charades”.

What’s up on the Psychic Café?

This week, I am featuring one of my most popular episodes ever, my interview with Brigit Esselmont of Biddy Tarot. Brigit has built a great website, and a world-wide tarot business, in a very short period of time. Watch the video, and see how she did it!

Card 15: Bear

Card 15, Bear is considered a neutral card. The Bear can describe a mother, a protector, or a down-to-earth, practical person. The Bear can also describe a person who is overbearing, aggressive or a bully.

The playing card association for Bear is the Ten of Clubs. This suggests progress, especially where career is concerned, moving forward despite difficulty, signing a contract, or travel.

Next week, we will explore Card 16, Stars.

Your One-Card Weekly Reading

Your one-card reading this week is the Two of Swords.

What choices are you pondering this week? What options are in front of you?

This week, spend some quality time thinking about your options, ideas and decisions.

Now, here’s the twist. As you think about your choices and possibilities, allow yourself no worry, and no anxiety.

Don’t worry about not knowing what you want, or what to choose.

Don’t worry about making a mistake.

Practice simply weighing ideas against each other, from a serene and peaceful perspective.

Your correct path will appear when the time is right. This mental process will help you know your path when it emerges.
