Happy Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving at the beach.

The United States celebrates Thanksgiving this week. I have a complicated relationship with Thanksgiving. My mother did not enjoy Thanksgiving for many reasons. She believed that the focus on overeating was unhealthy and unconscionable. I think ‘gluttony’ was the word she would use when discussing her moral objection to the holiday. She also felt that the traditional meal was exhausting to prepare and one she never particularly liked.

Yet, I remember some wonderful Thanksgivings from my childhood. As a young adult, Thanksgiving was often a time to gather with friends or to take a trip home (usually with my laundry) to visit my family.

When I had a family of my own, we had wonderful holiday meals together and plenty of family traditions. This year, as we were preparing for the holiday, I found myself in my mother’s Thanksgiving state of mind. It felt like a lot of work for a limited reward.

Then, all of a sudden, my feelings shifted. There are many movies, songs, and stories about the Christmas spirit. Never had I thought there might be a Thanksgiving spirit! Suddenly, I was remembering holidays past with fondness, and anticipating a nice meal with my loved ones, and some time to play with my grandkids.

What causes that sort of spontaneous shift from positive to negative? Perhaps it comes from years of intentionally practicing optimism. I think there is something more, though, when it comes to holidays. I believe the collective energy of preparation, excitement, togetherness, and nostalgia is palpable and contagious.

This teaches us something important about collective energy; the energy we put into the world matters. The energy we absorb can change us, for better or worse. This week, the change for me was definitely for good.

My family and I hope everyone celebrating has a happy Thanksgiving. And, as we move toward the end of 2025, we wish you every blessing of the season.

The StaarCorner

As we continue the StaarCon 5 AfterGlow through December and January, there will still be quite a few great events in the lounge on Accelevents before the AfterGlow ends on January 26.

December starts strong on Monday, December 1, with Alyassia Taylor’s monthly Tarot Vibes: A Full Moon Prep Journey. We appreciate Alyassia’s commitment to StaarCon over this year and look forward to her offerings on StaarCast and at StaarCon 6.

If you have some time off over the holiday weekend, use your StaarCon 5 ticket to watch or re-watch recordings of some great conference presentations.

StaarCast News

I want to thank those who have signed up to be beta testers for StaarCast!

This week, we are testing the video and meeting functionality. A StaarCast presenter will be able to hold meetings, just like the AfterGlow, with several important differences.

Presenters will be able to offer pay-per-view video presentations to StaarCast members. They will be able to record a webinar or meeting for later viewing by meeting attendees and offer it to members as a pay-per-view upgrade. Presenters will receive their share of the proceeds when payouts occur.

In-person speakers at StaarCon 6 will have the opportunity to offer their recorded presentations to StaarCast members as a pay-per-view offering, receiving their share of the proceeds just like virtual presenters! StaarCast members who choose to watch the conference virtually can purchase access to a single presentation or the entire live event.

Our testing will continue. We will be contacting beta-testers soon.

Tarot and Food

You wouldn’t think there would be a huge connection between tarot and food, but there is. Many tarot cards can reference the creation, preparation, and sharing of food or resources. Over the years, there have been many books and tarot decks that make a connection between specific tarot cards and cocktails or specialty dishes.

I have hosted and attended many tarot community events where the challenge was to bring a tarot-related food. One person baked bread in the shapes of the four Minor Arcana icons. We had Hermit cookies, Death chili, and, of course, Tower chocolate cake.

There are many ways that a tarot reading can speak about food, and many ways to playfully engage your tarot community in some card-inspired culinary events, at Thanksgiving or anytime.

I want to remind you that I am available for readings and tarot mentoring throughout the holiday season, as well as for entertainment at your South Florida parties. Please do not hesitate to reach out at a time that is most convenient for you. Or schedule your session using my online calendar.

I know many of you watch my weekly lives, and if you do, you know about Card Cam. Card Cam is a way to see the cards as I read live for my subscribers. Several of my viewers use these live broadcasts to gain a better understanding of the cards and how they interact with one another.

If you love tarot and want to learn more, I offer personalized tarot mentorship virtually with just about any meeting app, and in-person at my office in Stuart, Florida. Virtual mentorship will include Card Cam, of course!

Communities

The modern portmanteau ‘Friendsgiving’ is a word I dislike. In case you are unfamiliar, this term is used to describe meals, parties, and gatherings of friends for Thanksgiving, rather than a Thanksgiving with your family.

Some of my favorite Thanksgivings were potluck gatherings with friends. One year, a large group of us had a feast at Mamoun’s Falafel Restaurant in New Haven. Rarely have I had a Thanksgiving gathering with only friends or only family.

The Thanksgiving origin story tells us that Thanksgiving began as a community celebration. Some of my best Thanksgivings included strangers at the table. By the end of the meal, they were friends. To me, it is vaguely irritating to designate Thanksgiving as a meal you have only with specifically designated loved ones. I do like to think of Thanksgiving as a time to be grateful for our blessings. Perhaps our greatest blessings are the loved ones around us and the opportunity to celebrate special times with them, as well as with the friends we haven’t yet met.
