The First Harvest
The beginning of August is traditionally known as the time to celebrate the first harvest of grain. In Ireland, grain was gathered and used to bake bread for the poor, in thanks for a bountiful harvest.
From a metaphysical perspective, we can use this time of year to be grateful for our own bounty, and to share our good fortune with others.
We can also take stock of how we are manifesting our goals.
What personal harvest are you reaping?
What goals did you set earlier this year? Did you make New Year resolutions? Did you plant seeds of intention in the springtime?
Now is the time to see what you have accomplished.
If you fell a bit short of achieving your goals, don’t worry. There is still time to recommit and do what you need to do.
If you are on course, you can celebrate your personal harvest, and decide what your next steps will be.

Gratitude and Service
Two aspects of harvest time are gratitude and service. It is time to be grateful for the bounty that is ours, and it is time to find ways to share with others less fortunate.
Sometimes, when things haven’t gone our way, it can be difficult to maintain an attitude of gratitude. To make a list each day of the blessings in your life is a great exercise to help keep the blessings coming.
If you are having a hard time remembering your blessings, try pulling a tarot card to remind you.
There are always ways to share with others. We can share our skills, our time, our prayers or our money. Whatever you have to give, and whomever you want to give it to, take the time to share of yourself.
If you are not sure what to share, pull a tarot card to give you an idea!
May all the blessings of the summer harvest be yours!

The Week in Review
This week, on my Tarot Topics Community Blog, I posted some study material to help beginning and advanced students learn tarot more effectively. Give these exercises a try!
I often think about the stories we tell, and how they can help or hurt us. On my personal blog, Tarot Trends, I wrote about how we tell our “Origin Stories.”
On my Dark Forest Blog, I reviewed a unique dining experience in Lake Worth, Florida. Have you been to Tacos al Carbon?
On my “78 Magickal Tools” blog on PaganSquare, I wrote a post about the “Simplest Tarot Spell Ever.”
From Around the Web
“Life Coaching” is all the rage, and is a service that many great tarot readers provide. Not every life coach is worth your time, however. Read this interesting report from CBS News about life coaching myths.
Are you interested in Astrology? Here is a great tool to help you study key words for the twelve houses, from The Tiny Totem.
Here is an interesting and thoughtful perspective on Major Arcana 13, from Olivia Destrades of First Earth Tarot. Read “Death Isn’t Just a New Beginning.”

Two Card Harvest Tarot Spread
Here is a cause-and-effect tarot spread using only two cards. It’s based on the Biblical concept “As you sew, so shall you reap.” You can use this spread to check your progress in achieving your goals. You can also use this spread to see things you may have unintentionally set in motion.
Card One: What have I planted?
Card Two: What am I harvesting?

Learning Tarot: Eight of Cups
In the Rider-Waite-Smith (RWS) Eight of Cups we see the character has stacked the cups on the shore, and has turned his back and walked away.
Key concepts for this card include abandonment, walking away, leaving something behind.
The moon image suggests that a process is happening. The current situation may have taken a while to create, or a problem may take a while to solve.
When we think of the suit of Cups as the suit of emotions, we might think that the character has left some of his emotions on the shore.
Sometimes the Eight of Cups is about taking an inventory of your feelings, and then leaving behind the emotions that no longer serve you. In this way, the Eight of Cups is a card of healing.
The Eight of Cups can refer to a feeling of abandonment, or can suggest that it is time to walk away from something.
The Eight of Cups may tell you to let go of something that has hurt you, or something that bothers you.
Next week we will move on to the Nine of Cups.

Your One-Card Weekly Reading
Your one-card reading this week is the Moon.
This week, pay attention to your dreams. If you are confused, or looking for direction, you may receive guidance in a spiritual fashion, perhaps through dreams, or an intuitive or psychic experience.
Right now it is important to be clear about what is true, and what is illusion. Take nothing at face value; many things turn out to be different than they first appear. Be careful who and what you trust.
Pay attention to synchronicity, signs, omens and symbols. The Moon indicates that you are ready and able to receive communication from the spirit world.
