Retreat
Retreat
Summer is a time when many people go on retreat. We take vacations and travel. We take a break from daily life and do something different.
That time away, whether we are lying on a beach, meditating in an ashram, or living in up in Vegas, is vital. When we take time to retreat, we return to our daily tasks with renewed energy and enthusiasm.
When we can’t take a cruise or even a day off, a few minutes of “mental retreat” keeps us focused and productive.
When we are trying to move forward, a focus on retreat seems counterintuitive. A time away, whether it’s five minutes or five days, is important, because it give us rest and new perspective.
Three Tarot Cards that Suggest Retreat
Sometimes tarot tells us to take a break. Here are three cards that could indicate the need to rest and retreat.
1. The Four of Swords: This card is a stern directive to take a break. It indicates a time for recuperation.
2. The Nine of Pentacles: The protected woman, serene in her garden, reminds us to find places where we can be safe, secure and undisturbed.
3. The Hermit: This card can indicate a time of deep personal introspection and intense solitary study.
The Week in Review
I went on retreat from my computer over the weekend! I’ll be back next week will new posts on my blogs. This week, let’s revist a couple of the most popular posts from my blogs.
One post people really enjoy is from August 2013, on my personal blog. Have you read “How to do a Cord-Cutting Ritual to Heal from an Unhealthy Relationship”?
Another popular post is from the Community Blog, from June 2014. It’s called “Being Honest about the Seven of Swords”.
From Around the Web
I loved this article about the concept of yeet hay in Traditional Chinese Medicine.
One of my very early spiritual inspirations, Starhawk, has written a hard-hitting and somewhat controversial post entitled “50 Shades of Racism”.
Theresa Reed, aka “The Tarot Lady”, is a class act. Read her recent blog post on the energetic aspects of social media, “What about the lovers?”
Two-Card Vacation Tarot Spread
Here’s a fun tarot spread to help you plan your vacation. The trick is that interpreting it will help you stretch as a tarot reader!
Card One: Where should we go?
Card Two: What should we do?
You may have to think a bit to interpret the cards in the context of these specific questions – that’s part of the fun of this spread.
Once you have an interpretation, compare it to your usual vacation, or the vacation you have already planned. What have you learned about your plans for retreat?

Card Eleven: Birch (Broom or Whip)
While the Birch, or Broom or Whip, is considered a negative card, it doesn’t always connote a negative activity.
The repetitive nature of a birch broom, or a whip, can indicate punishment, or self-punishment. It can indicate any repetitive activity, like sports, exercise or lovemaking.
This is often a card of physical activity and action.
The playing card association is the Jack of Clubs. This can indicate a young male, especially one who is athletic, or likes to stay busy.
Next week we will learn about Card Twelve, The Birds.
