Sharing

When we are little sharing is about playing nicely with others. As we get older sharing becomes more about communication. We share thoughts and ideas as well as resources. Sometimes we overshare by revealing too much information about ourselves to the wrong people.

In a community setting we sometimes share by volunteering our time, energy and expertise to worthy causes. In a business setting we often need to be careful about not sharing proprietary secrets.

In a spiritual setting we can share energy, ideas, healing and wisdom. This forms the bonds of the community. When we share of ourselves in the context of charity, spirituality and friendship we make others stronger as we strengthen ourselves.

Sharing in Your Community

Most of us are members of many communities - spiritual communities, work communities, creative communities, on-line communities and recreational communities. And of course, there are the communities in which we live.

The more we share of ourselves within our communities, the better our communities will be.

Sometimes sharing is about helping those in need by raising money or food. Sometimes we share our talents by teaching others new skills. Sometimes we share of ourselves by simply being present at community events.

Tarot offers so many opportunities for sharing. In the tarot community we teach each other about the cards and about ways to use and interpret them. We share readings with each other. Often we volunteer our services to entertain at charity events or to raise money for worthy causes.

Creative communities tend to do the same kinds of things by crafting items to donate to charities or to be sold to raise money. Social and recreational communities often engage in similar activities

When we work together for a common goal we experience fellowship. We make friends, have fun and feel a sense of purpose.

Sometimes people feel that their contributions aren't good enough, or don't make a difference. Really, that is simply never true. Everyone has something to contribute, and everyone's contribution makes a difference.

Too many people feel lonely and isolated, and there is simply no reason this needs to be. There are communities to suit every interest. Even if you live in a remote area you can be a meaningful part of an on-line community.

We all have something to share, and we all benefit from sharing within a community.

Sharing Spread

Here is an original tarot spread about sharing within a community. It is appropriate to use with any tarot or oracle deck.

Card 1. In what way do I benefit from being part of this community?

Card 2. What skills and resources do I normally share with this community?

Card 3. What more could I share with this community?

Lay the cards out left to right. Interpret the card in each position to help you understand and expand your role within your community.

What's up at the Psychic Café

Last Sunday, February 24, Marcy Currier returned to the Psychic Café to show us two new sketches from her upcoming Mystical Frog Tarot, and to discuss a third card.

We saw her Three of Cups and her Five of Cups, and discussed her vision for her Hierophant.

Then I posed some controversial questions of tarot ethics to Marcy. A fun and interesting conversation ensued.

We ended the show with opinions from listens and call-in psychic readings. If you missed the show or want to see it again, you can watch it in archive.

For our first show in March we will have Aliandra Starre as a guest. Aliandra is a Shamanic Astrologer. I am really excited to learn about Shamanic Astrology and how it differs from astrology as we typically understand it.

We will also see a video clip of Ariana Lightningstorm's band, Kiva, performing at the Maryland Faerie Festival, complete with dancing faeries and hoopers.

I will also be performing psychic readings for callers, so get your questions ready!

It all happens Sunday evening, March 3 at 9 pm Eastern, on the Para Encounters Network

Visit our Show Information Page on Facebook for more information.

Your One-Card Weekly Reading

Your One-Card Reading this week is Strength. Strength is often pictured as a woman with a lion. In a contest of psychical strength the lion could kill the woman, but the woman has tamed the lion. Somehow, as frail as the woman is, she has conquered the lion. She controls his wild nature, and subdues his anger. Her ability to do this comes from her loving, gentle nature.

This card reminds us that love is the greatest strength. We must temper anger and keep our baser nature under control.

This card affirms that we have the strength we need to conquer whatever we must, as long as love is the source of that strength.

February Global Tarot Circle Recap

We had a great group for our February Global Tarot Circle, ranging from brand new readers to professionals. In honor of Valentine's Day our topic was Love and Tarot.

We started the meeting with "Introductions and Burning Questions."  Each person had to say where in the world they were, if they read for themselves and/or for others, and how often they found themselves turning to the cards to answer questions about love and romance. Each person was allowed to ask a "burning question," that is, either a question about the cards themselves or a question about their own lives appropriate for a virtual room full of tarot readers.

Interestingly, many of our burning questions really focused us on the topic, since many of the questions were love-related.

Once we worked through all the burning questions we focused on our discussion questions, which were:

  1. What does the Lovers Major Arcana 6 say to you?
  2. What cards predict a happy love relationship?
  3. What are typical questions people ask tarot about love?
  4. How do we avoid bringing our own experiences/lack of experiences to our readings?

Question 2, about cards that predict a happy love relationship, gave us an interesting answer. One person used the Five of Pentacles as a card that predicts a happy relationship. The rest of us had never thought about that before. He explained that in that card he saw "For better or worse." This was a great example of the value of Tarot Circle as an opportunity to share our thoughts and ideas with one another.

The next Global Tarot Circle will be March 18 at 7 pm Eastern time. Our discussion topic will be fate, luck, karma and destiny. Join us by visiting the event listing on the Tarot Circle website.

Create

Some people think of themselves as creative. Others don't. But here's the truth. The ability and the need to create is part of human nature. We are all creative. It is just a matter of figuring out where your creativity lies.

It's important to remember that creativity is not just about singing a song or knitting a sweater. There are many ways in which we create.

Creativity is related to the element of Fire. Fire is also about our vitality and our life force. When we are inspired to create we strengthen ourselves physically, emotionally and spirituality.

Today, and every day, honor that you are a creator. Use creative thought in problem-solving. Use creative thought in recreation.  Open up to the inspiration of the Universe!

Using Tarot to Inspire Creativity

There has been a lot of conversation around ways to use tarot to inspire writers, artists and other creative folk. Fashion designers have been showing tarot-inspired clothing and perfume lines. One creative tarot student I know baked bread in the shape of the four tarot suit icons for a Tarot Picnic! Everyone seems to agree - tarot is inspiring!

Anyone can use tarot for inspiration. If you are writing a novel you can pull cards to define everything from characters to plot lines. It is helpful to simply say "What should happen next?" And pull a card or two.

If you are not sure where your creativity lies, simply ask the cards. Ask "In what way am I creative?" and pull a card. Or ask "What can I do to stimulate my creativity?" and pull a card.

Being a spiritual book of seventy-eight illustrations, tarot is inherently a tool of creativity.

To Be an Instrument of Peace

Our One-Card reading this week is one of my favorite cards, The Hermit. Often we associate the Hermit with Saint Francis of Assisi.

The lore and wisdom of Saint Francis extends beyond Catholicism. The prayer of Saint Francis was published first in the United States by Quakers. It was used during WWII as a protest for peace.

In the prayer, Saint Francis asked to be made an instrument of peace.

He then goes on to describe the ways in which this can happen.

As an interesting exercise, use tarot or another divination tool to answer these two questions, inspired by the prayer of Saint Francis.

Simply ask each question and pull a card, or a few cards, to receive your answer.

Of what am I an instrument at the present time?

What do I need to do to become an instrument of peace?

Then, take some time to reflect on the words of Saint Francis.

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace,

Where there is hatred, let me sow love;

Where there is injury, pardon;

Where there is doubt, faith;

Where there is despair, hope;

Where there is darkness, light;

Where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master,

Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled, as to console;

To be understood, as to understand;

To be loved, as to love.

For it is in giving that we receive.

It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,

And it is in dying that we are born to Eternal Life.

While much of the prayer is easily quite nondenominational and ecumenical, the last line speaks specifically to the Christian concept of heaven. Many religions teach such a concept, but not all.

But what if we look at that last line symbolically? In addition to the promise of heaven, this line speaks of a deeper truth. When we let go of that which no longer serves us we are able to fully live, and to live in peace.

Christiana's Psychic Café

On February 3, Anita Perez joined me as we celebrate "Tarotbowl 1," an interesting and metaphysical alternative to the Superbowl.

Interestingly, we were joking about the technical errors that caused the blackout during the game. We must have enraged the gods of football because we had some technical trouble too!

Despite those problems we had a great time together. Tidal Miller joined us by phone to discuss the Blog Talk Radio shows he and Anita are producing.

We had an interesting conversation about the Pagan community and the celebration of Imbolc.

We did a two-card tarot reading in honor of Imbolc and, in honor of the Superbowl, we talked about predicting sports outcomes with tarot. If you would like to watch Tarotbowl 1 in archive, find in on the Tarot Topics Community News Site.

Coming up on February 10 is our Valentine's Day Special!

We'll check in with fashionista Dominique Tate to discover what the fashionable girl will be wearing for the Valentine's Day date. Then we will talk with Ariana Lightningstorm who is one of only seven certified lipsologists in the world. A lipsologist is a lip print reader. We will learn about lipsology and see how it works when Ariana reads my lip prints!

Of course, if you have questions about your love life feel free to call in and get a free psychic reading! Tune in to watch the show on February 10, 9 pm Eastern on the Para Encounters Network.

Your One-Card Weekly Reading

This week your One-Card Reading is the Hermit.

The Hermit expresses the archetype of the "wise old man" or "Father Time."

The Hermit has climbed alone to the top of the mountain and now holds the lamp of wisdom for all to see.

This card can indicate loneliness. It can also indicate higher levels of education. It is a card that advises patience, wisdom and study.

The important thing to remember is this. We cannot achieve great wisdom in the presence of

others. It is something we must do on our own.

This card reminds us to carve out time for retreat, reflection and meditation.

It also reminds us to seek the advice of those who are wise. And, when we have developed our own wisdom, we must share that knowledge with others when asked.

Remembering the Dream

We will always honor the memory of Martin Luther King, Jr. as a civil rights leader who worked to usher the United States into a new era. As a minister, a community leader and a civil rights leader he taught us many important lessons.

Martin Luther King, Jr. taught us the value of standing firm in our convictions. He taught us to stand up against hatred. Although he died a violent death he never wavered from his personal doctrine of non-violence.

In his famous "I Have a Dream" speech King set forth a simple concept; that people should be judged by their character rather than their race. I think that is a dream that most of us still value and still work to achieve.

In that speech King also taught us each to dream of a better future for ourselves, our country and our planet.

What is your dream for the future?

The Power of Dreams

Our sleeping dreams can mean a number of things. Sometimes our sleeping dreams are simply our brains randomly processing the events of the day. Sometimes our dreams offer us an opportunity to work out our problems. Sometimes our dreams may be prophetic. Sometimes our spirit guides, ancestors and loved ones in spirit speak to us in our dreams.

The key is in knowing which is which. Which dreams are symbolic and revealing of our issues? Which dreams are sent by Spirit? Which ones remind us not to eat pizza before bed?

It is always wise to perform a divination around the significance of a dream. Using cards, runes or a pendulum ask if the dream is significant and worthy of interpretation.

If there are items or situations in the dream that seem significant you can use divination to discover what these dream elements represent. For instance, you might ask "What is the significance of the toaster?"

Recurrent dreams almost always speak to us of deep ongoing issues. If we can interpret these often-disturbing dreams we can find healing for our issues and stop the dreams.

When we have a problem to solve we can practice lucid dreaming. Simply tell yourself and your spirit guides what you need to learn or solve in your dreams. Do this in a meditation right before sleep. When you awaken write down your dreams even if they don't seem significant. Through the process of interpretation you will often find your answers.

Often our prophetic dreams show us mundane scenes from our own future. We remember the dream when we have a feeling of déjà vu. I interpret these dreams as an indication of being on the correct path.

Do not be afraid when you are visited by Spirit in your dreams. Consider the message you receive in these dreams as proof of Spirit's presence in your life.

Being aware of your dreams will help you heal from your traumas and plan for your future. Your dreams will inspire you and guide you. A bit of lavender scent on your pillow may offer pleasant dreams and clarity in your interpretations.

This Sunday, January 20th, we will have two special guests on the show. Artist Marcy Currier will show us a sneak peek of a tarot deck still in the development stage. Marcy is designing Mystical Frog Tarot which will be published by US Games when it is completed.

In our Magick and Mayhem segment we will have a visit with Tantric Healer Lourdes Starshower. She will explain the concept of tantric healing and tell us about the work she does. You will have the opportunity to call in with your questions.

Tune in to watch this exciting show, Christiana's Psychic Café, this Sunday at 9 pm Eastern on the Paraencounters Network.

Your Dream for the Future

In honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. here is a one-card exercise derived from the "I have a Dream" speech. You can perform this exercise with tarot or with other oracle cards.

Simply shuffle and ask this question. "What is my dream for the future of the planet?"

Pull just one card at random. How does this card reflect the future of which you dream?

Your One-Card Weekly Reading

Your One-Card reading for the week is the Eight of Pentacles.

Interpretively there tends to be some controversy about this card. We all agree that this is a card of working. Some of us feel this card indicates training or study, especially in a trade. One of my key phrases for this card is "learning through hard work." For me this is the card of hands-on learning and investing time in building a skill.

For others this can be the card of the master craftsman. In this case the Eight of Pentacles suggests a successful career; perhaps a career working with one's hands.

Some tarotists see this as the card of repetitive labor. For them this card could indicate a factory job.

In any case the Eight of Pentacles indicates gainful employment and working with one's hands. I see it as an encouragement to learn a skill or a trade and an indication that one will be able to provide for one's own needs.

This card can encourage education and career development and assure you of the financial security that comes from hard work.
