A New Year

There are so many wonderful traditions from around the world for celebrating the New Year. At the same time, there are those who remind us that the change of the calendar is arbitrary. Perhaps New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day don’t carry the power and meaning we give them.

I disagree. Even though the dates on our calendar don’t correlate our New Year with an astrological event, our New Year has power because we, the citizens of the planet, have agreed to give it power.

Think about it. Every nation of the planet rings in the New Year at midnight. We celebrate with resolutions, intentions, divinations, a kiss, and a song about friendship. That so many of us do this with the intention of creating a better year makes the New Year a very magickal time indeed.

What kind of magickal New Year celebration did you do? Is there more you want to do this month to help make 2015 your best year ever?

Tarot Divination and Manifestation for the New Year

Have you done a tarot reading for your 2015? Have you tried a tarot manifestation? You can use many techniques. Here is a technique for both divination and manifestation in one sitting. Try it before the end of January.

Shuffle your deck, and, using any method to pick the cards, pick fourteen cards, and lay them out in this way.

The first card represents 2014. The next twelve cards represent each of the twelve months in order, starting with January. The final card represents 2015 overall.

Look at your cards and interpret them. What do they tell you about the coming year, and about the year you are leaving behind?

Now it is time to use these cards to manifest wonderful things for 2015.

Look first at the card for 2014 and the card for 2015. Do you like the energy of these cards? Do you want these energies in your life? If you do, take a moment to welcome these energies with gratitude.

If either these cards represent something you don’t like or don’t want, turn the card upside down to reverse the energy, and dismiss these energies from your life.

Now take all twelve of your month cards, and from them choose the energies that you would most like to cultivate. That could be all twelve, or only one or two. Take these cards that you have chosen and spend some time with them, in meditation, while focusing on your intentions for 2015.

In divination, the tarot will show you the energies that are available to you. In manifestation, you will expand the energies you find most helpful, and diminish the ones you don’t.

The Week in Review

On the Winter Solstice, the Tarot Blog Hop did an exciting exercise where twenty-four of us each performed the same spread. The synchronicities are amazing. You can read mine, and then follow the links to see what my fellow bloggers did.

On my Dark Forest blog, check out my counterintuitive advice for happiness, “Stop Trying to be a Good Person.”

On my Tarot Topics Personal Blog, we have some great guest posts. Joanne Matthew shared a wonderful piece of holiday tarot creativity called “22 Gifts.”

Linda, from Treasures of Tarot, shared a great way of using tarot for the New Year called “A New Take on the New Year’s Resolution.”

My contribution to the community blog was a video and written blog in my “Answers to your Questions about Tarot” series. This time the question was about comparing the Emperor and the Hierophant.

From Around the Web

This fabulous post from Tabitha Dial at Spiral Nature is crafty, tarot-centric and spiritual. Why don’t you try “Crafting a Tarot Wreath”?

Here’s Jean Redman’s take on the numerology of our New Year. I always appreciate Jean’s grounded wisdom.

Since we are talking a bit about numerology, here is a post from Katrina Wynne, another tarotist I admire. Read “Arithmology, Arithmancy, and Numerology in Tarot”.

Year Cards: From the Chariot to Strength

Did you know that, with numerology, we can determine a Major Arcana card to describe the energy for the year? We do that by adding together the digits of the year until we come to a single digit.

2014 is a Seven year, associated with the Chariot. 2015 is an Eight year, associate with Strength.

I see the Chariot as a card of personal mastery. I see Strength as a card that encourages people to work together and compromise. For me, the transition from Chariot to Strength may indicate an increase in our ability to plant seeds for peace and unity on the planet, in our communities and within ourselves this year.

Look at your Chariot, and your Strength card. Can you think of ways the Chariot made itself known in 2014? How do you think Strength will influence 2015?

What’s up on the Psychic Café?

Christiana’s Psychic Café began in December 2012, as a live weekly webcast on the Para Encounters Network. Although PEN is no longer broadcasting as it once did, the Psychic Café continues to bring you the best in informal and informative conversation with some very interesting people.

Our first new show of the New Year will debut on Facebook on Sunday, January 11 at 9 pm. Watch it then, or enjoy in on my YouTube channel.

I am very excited to announce that my first guest of the New Year is Benebell Wen, author of the brand new 874-page book, “Holistic Tarot.” Benebell will be joining me from her home in California to discuss her work with tarot and her ground-breaking first book.

I am very much looking forward to my conversation with Benebell Wen, and to many other great guests in 2015 on Christiana’s Psychic Café.

Learning Tarot: Ace of Pentacles

It is wonderful that, in our first newsletter of the New Year, we begin our journey through the suit of Pentacles.

The suit of Pentacles is also called the suit of disks, coins, or stones. We associate the element of Earth with the suit of Pentacles.  Earth rules our resources, our material goods and physical well-being. Therefore, the cards of the Pentacles suit will refer to our resources, our work, our homes, our health, our money.

As with all the Aces, the Ace of Pentacles can speak of a new beginning, an essence or a source.

Typically, the Ace of Pentacles can indicate new money, a new job or a change at work. It could also indicate a new sense of grounding, or a new commitment to health and well-being.

The Ace of Pentacles may remind you to pay attention to your daily tasks, or to find a greater connection to nature.

Sometimes, the Ace of Pentacles can predict a pregnancy!

Next week, we will continue our journey as we learn to balance our resources with the Two of Pentacles.

Your One-Card Weekly Reading

Your first one-card reading for the New Year is the Four of Wands. In Lisa Hunt’s Animals Divine Tarot, the Four of Wands is “Ladybug.”

The Four of Wands reminds you to enjoy your living space, and value it as sacred. Are you happy in your home? Is it time to redecorate, or invite friends over to enjoy your space with you?

This card can also be an indicator for romance. If you have a great partner, take time to enjoy each other this week. If you are looking for a great partner, this card is an auspicious sign of good things to come.

This week, remember that a wonderful home isn’t made from the finest bricks and stone. A wonderful home is made from love, passion, friendship and creativity.

So often, we spend so much time supporting our home that we forget to enjoy our home. This week, make your home, and the people in it, a priority!

Equinox

Today, March 20th, the Northern Hemisphere celebrates the Vernal Equinox; the first day of spring. On the other side of the world, of course, they welcome the Autumnal Equinox and the beginning of autumn.

All over the world there are drum circles, celebrations and community events to commemorate the moment when day and night are of equal length, and light and dark are in balance.

The first day of spring is called Ostara, and is the inspiration for the timing  and name of the Christian holiday of Easter. This is the time of resurrection and rebirth, of hatching eggs and sprouting seeds. The triumph of light over darkness, of warmth over cold, is what we celebrate at this time of year.

What is it you would like to "hatch" this spring? What seeds are you nurturing? Now is the time to set your intentions for your own rebirth and your own creativity!

Ostara Tarot Blog Hop

It's that time again! Eight times a year tarot bloggers across the globe agree to blog on the same topic and link their blogs one to another in a chain. One person, designated as "wrangler," sets the topic. This time around we are honoring the balance of light and dark found during the equinox. We are asked to find tarot cards and themes that are neither positive nor negative, but instead dance between the light and the dark.

To see what each of us had to say about this you can start with my post and follow the links all the way through. Expect philosophical musings, tarot readings, poetry, recipes and more. Anything can happen on the Tarot Blog Hop!

If you are a tarot blogger, consider joining us next time! Visit the Tarot Blog Hop Facebook Page to sign up.

If you want to start a tarot blog you are welcome to sign up for a free account on the Tarot Topics Community Blog website.

What's Up at the Psychic Café?

On March 17 the Psychic Café celebrated St. Patrick's Day in style. We welcomed five guests who each gave their own interesting perspective on St. Patrick's Day. We enjoyed an Irish tune from String Band and an acoustic musical number from Robin Renee.

Ambika Devi taught a fascinating and easy technique to use the body as a pendulum.

The St. Patrick's show was fun and informative. You can watch it in archive on the Tarot Topics News Site.

This coming Sunday, March 24th we will welcome Barbara Magro, author of Recipes to Remember. Barbara, a world traveler and spiritual seeker, rejected the values of her traditional Italian upbringing. When her mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Barbara was compelled to preserve her mother's recipes. Recipes to Remember, a fundraising book for the Alzheimer's Association, is full not only of traditional recipes but also Barbara's memories and musings.

We will also welcome a new band to the Psychic Café.  Blessed and Gifted are a young duo from Connecticut with an eclectic musical style and a positive message to share.

Bring your tarot decks to the café! We will learn an original tarot spread based on a Blessed and Gifted song!

It all happens Sunday Night, March 24th at 9 pm EDT on Christiana's Psychic Café on the Para Encounters Network.

March Global Tarot Circle Recap

This Month Global Tarot Circle met on March 18, right between St. Patrick's Day and the Vernal Equinox.

We started our meeting by reading for each other. We are getting really good at "group consensus readings," where we each pull a few cards and put them all together to tell the story.

In honor of St. Patrick's Day we had a discussion about fate, destiny, luck and karma. We talked about specific tarot cards that indicate those energies in a reading (Wheel of Fortune, Justice, and Judgment, for example).

In honor of the Vernal Equinox we each did a one-card reading. The question was what am I hatching right now? What seeds are sprouting for me? What is the nature of my rebirth this spring?

This is a reading that everyone can and should do at this time of year, with tarot or with another oracle.

In Tarot Circle, our ability to share readings is one of the ways we support and help each other.

Our next Global Tarot Circle meeting will be April 8, at 7 pm. To participate, simply follow the links from the Event Page of the Tarot Circle website.

Tarot Circle welcomes tarot enthusiasts of any level of experience, from brand new beginners to professionals.

Your One-Card Weekly Reading

Your one-card reading this week is the Four of Cups. The traditional image for the Four of Cups shows a person being offered three cups, none of which seem to appeal. A mystical forth cup is offered; that cup is rejected as well.

This card can talk about a situation where you are just not happy with any of your current options. The question is this. Are you not happy because you are stuck in a bad attitude? Should you be more positive and choose one of the cups?

Or, is it best to sit and wait for something better?

The Four of Cups does not advise a particular course of action. When you see this card you must look within, recognizing that you will need to make a choice about options that don't quite please you. This card reminds you to make sure your attitude is mature before you reject something that might be valuable. It may also caution you to be patient in your decision-making process.

Body, Mind and Spirit

When we hear the words "Body, Mind and Spirit" we think of holistic healing. That is the idea that all well-being comes from nurturing all aspects of self. We cannot focus on healing the body without also nurturing emotional/mental health and spiritual health. It is difficult to be emotionally healthy if we are not also spiritually and physically well.

Throughout our lives we all suffer imbalances, but our goal is always to nurture and be well of body, of mind and of spirit. This means that, for instance, diet can impact spiritual well-being, or mood. Great sadness can cause physical illness.

It is also true that if we are physically unwell a positive attitude can help us heal. If we are depressed physical exercise can help us feel better. If we stay spiritually centered our mental and physical health will be improved.

Body, mind and spirit are inextricably connected within each of us. As we learn to take care of ourselves we learn to honor our physical health, our mental well-being and our spiritual growth.

Body, Mind and Spirit in Tarot

If you've read my book Tarot Tour Guide  or if you've taken any of my premium tarot webinars then you know I like to see the numbered cards of the Major Arcana as a journey toward wellness of body, mind and spirit.

I see cards one through seven (Magician through Chariot) as the lessons we need to learn to master the material world, or "body".

I see cards eight through fourteen (Strength through Temperance) as the lessons we need to learn to find emotional balance, or "mind".

I see cards fifteen through twenty-one (Devil through World) as the lessons we need to learn to find spiritual enlightenment, or "spirit".

Each group of seven cards is a journey. Each card teaches a lesson. Each lesson builds on the previous lesson.

When we study tarot we learn not only what cards can mean in a reading. We learn the lesson of each card, and have the opportunity to heal and grow as a result of each lesson.

Through the study of tarot we are able to embrace the universal wisdom that brings us to the place of wholeness, integration and completion; the place of balance and wellness of body, mind and spirit.

The "Body, Mind and Spirit" Tarot Spread

A popular three-card tarot spread is the "Body, Mind and Spirit" spread. You can perform this spread with any tarot or oracle deck. This spread is a good check of your overall wellbeing, and may offer advice for you to improve your health and happiness.

There are many ways to perform this spread - here's one of my favorites.

Shuffle your deck until it feels ready.

Cut the deck three times into three face-down piles.

Rub your hands together to open the palm chakras.

Hold your left hand over each of the three piles. Decide which one feels the most airy, which one feels the most tingly and which one feels the most heavy.

The most airy is the "Spirit" pile.

The most tingly is the "Mind" pile.

The most heavy is the "Body" pile.

Turn over the top card on each pile. First look at how the three cards relate to each other. Do they have anything in common? Is one obviously more positive than the others?

Interpret each card to answer these questions.

What is the present state of my (Body, Mind, Spirit)?

Is there something more I can do to nurture my (Body, Mind, Spirit)?

If you need more information, look at the second card in each pile to answer this question.

What more do I need to know about my (Body, Mind, Spirit)?

You can also look at the very bottom card of each pile to give indication to "What is at the bottom of all this?"

Your One-Card Weekly Reading

Your One-Card reading for the week is the Devil! Don't worry, it's not as scary as it seems. The Devil asks you to consider the ideas, habits and priorities to which you have attached yourself.

Are these things healthy and helpful? Or are you attached to addictions, negative thoughts and things that hurt you?

Have you made a priority of material things when spiritual things should be more important?

Without the process of examining what binds you, of confronting your shadow self, you will never be able to advance in your journey toward spiritual enlightenment.

The Devil offers an opportunity to recognize and release the things that hold you back.
