Stop Comparing, Because You Are Enough
Don't ever think you are "less than", or "not enough". Try a new tarot spread, see Zuri's take on the number four, and learn about my trip to the northeast!
In a world where social media, advertising and celebrity worship set the standard, it’s easy to feel that we aren’t doing enough, that we aren’t successful enough, and that other people are somehow doing better than we are.
We compare what we know about our lives with what we see about other people’s lives, and believe ourselves to be lacking.
Here’s the truth. We can never know the reality of other people’s lives – we only know what other people want us to see.
We are deeply familiar with our own lives, and often focus more on our deficits and problems than we do our talents and achievements.
When you stop comparing yourself to others, and when you start acknowledging your own positive qualities and achievements, you will come to the correct conclusion.
You are absolutely the best in the world at being yourself, and that is all you have to be.
"Imma Do Me" Tarot Spread
Sometimes we get so distracted by social media and the 24-hour news cycle that we lose focus on the things that really matter, and the things over which we can have some control.
When you are feel distracted by others, use this tarot spread to bring your focus back to where it needs to be.
Think about your life at the current moment, and your goals for personal success.
Arrange the cards in a vertical line, from bottom to top.
Card One: My Biggest Priority
Card Two: My Biggest Opportunity
Card Three: My Biggest Distraction
Card Four: A Difficult Thing I Need to Accomplish
Card Five: Where I Can Find Help

Number Four
Hello Bright Sparks!
Last week we were flying high on the wings of the 3’s sweet optimism and fun. But now the party’s over and the 4 beckons us back to a new work week filled with tasks and responsibilities waiting to be completed. You will always recognize the 4s in your life. They are the managers, the planners and the grounded, hard working individuals who have the dedication and perseverance to get the job done.
They aren’t afraid to tell it like it is, and sometimes need to be careful not to come across too bluntly. Ultimately, there are no gray areas with the 4; only black and white realities.
The 4 is also represented by the Emperor card of the Tarot. He brings order out of chaos, and keeps everyone in line. He is the father, the leader, the rock by which the family can lean on because he oozes authority, stability and strength in everything he takes on.
Having some repair work done on your home? If you’re interviewing contractors, look no further than a 4 because you can always depend on him to follow through and be a man of his word.
When you see an abundance of 4’s in a Tarot spread, think about how stable your foundations are, whether it’s in your home life, your relationships or in your career space. Why? Because the 4s are obsessed with creating security and stability for themselves, so they seek out this goal in all aspects of their lives. And when a 4 is operating at his/her best, they are taking their dreams and transforming them into a long term physical reality.
This week’s vibrational takeaway in working with the 4 is to think about the systems and structures you are creating for your life. Where do you need to create more order and security? Are you bending the rules too much or do you need to reign yourself in and be more disciplined in your approach? Are you putting in the hard work or are you cutting corners?
Just like in Aesop’s Fable, the Tortoise and the Hare, the 4 reminds you that it takes dedication and patience to see your goals to the finish line.
To your inner tortoise!

Congratulate and Cooperate!
No matter your field, talents or activities, there will always be those who try to imitate you, steal your ideas, or compete with you in other unsavory ways.
It takes a strong, confident, smart person to know that that sort of behavior isn’t good for business, and doesn’t encourage personal growth.
What can you do when you have a person, either in real life or on social media, who has decided to promote themselves by attacking you or copying you?
What about when a friend’s successes start to make you feel less successful?
If someone is breaking the law by violating your copyright, you have legal recourse. If someone is harassing you, you also have recourse. The problem is not with legalities; the problem is that we let other people make us feel badly about ourselves.
Years ago, my young son came home from school and told me that sometimes, other people didn’t appreciate it when their peers were successful. His answer to that was “Don’t hate, congratulate!” If someone else’s success makes you feel badly, do your best to summon some congratulations for them, and don’t think that their success diminishes yours. There is plenty of room for us all to be successful.
If someone is actively working against you, don’t play their game, and don’t sink to their level. Rise above it! Most importantly, don’t ever let anyone cause you to believe you are anything less than exactly what you need to be.
If you are in a position to do so, be an example. Invite other to collaborate. Get involved in cooperative ventures. When we work together in community, we make each other strong.
Often, it is better to cooperate than to compete.
When we compete, only one of us can win. When we cooperate, we all win!

Are you a good friend . . . to yourself?
This week, Tarot Topics deals with self-love, self-esteem and self-acceptance. Learn about the energy of the number 2 from Zuri, and join Global Tarot Circle!
Most of us strive to be good friends to the people we care about. We forgive mistakes, we understand unintentional slights, we help out in times of need.
At the same time, we often don’t cut ourselves the same slack we do for the people we care about.
Many of us are focused on self-improvement. To that end, we look at ourselves with a very critical eye.
It’s good to strive to learn, grow and do better. It’s good to be able to own our flaws. But we also need to forgive ourselves as we would our friends. We need to treat ourselves gently.
Part of being a good friend to oneself is enjoying one’s own company. Take the time to do things alone that you enjoy. Read a book, visit the beach, shop, go for a bike ride – do something alone and enjoy your time with yourself.
The more you make friends with yourself and treat yourself as a valued friend, the happier you will be with your life.
Tarot Cards about Your Relationship with Yourself
Tarot can really help you understand yourself, communicate with your higher self, and be a better friend to yourself.
In the context of self-esteem, personal identity and self-love, there are many cards that offer specific lessons and insights. If these cards appear in a reading, they may speak to these kinds of issues, and offer insights into ways to shift your energy.
It is possible to use these cards to set intentions and do magick for increased confidence, personal security and self-esteem.
As you look through the deck, you may find many cards that speak to you of self-love, and issues that surround your sense of personal security. Here are some of mine.
The Aces: The Aces can always speak about “Number One”, that is, YOU! Each Ace may offer advice about ways to be stronger in yourself. Most significantly, the Ace of Pentacles may relate to your root chakra, and therefore your sense of physical security and safety, and your ability to claim your place on the planet.
The Nine of Pentacles: The Nine of Pentacles has traditionally evolved into a card of personal security, safety, self-esteem and being comfortable in one’s own company.
The High Priestess: In her upright or well-dignified state, the High Priestess can indicate a sense of peace and serenity within oneself. Reversed, she can indicate a sense of feeling guilty, or that you are not “enough”.
The Seven of Swords: Traditionally “The Thieves’ Card”, the Seven of Swords can suggest that you feel that you are getting away with something – that you fear you are not equal to your task, even if you are.
The Six of Wands: This is the card of the champion. Upright, you feel you are winning. Reversed, the opposite may be true.
The Two of Cups: Traditionally a card about relationships, this card could advise you to be a good partner to yourself.
The Lovers: Much like the Two of Cups, the Lovers could discuss the way you integrate the different parts of yourself, the way you find personal balance, and your ability to be a good friend to yourself.

Numerology with Zuri
Number TwO
Hello Bright Sparks!
Ever have that gut instinct that steers you through right and wrong? That soul stirring intuition that either gives you the thumbs up or down when you meet someone new? Well, that’s the energy of the 2 at work in your life!
This week we begin the journey of understanding the vibrational qualities of the 2 and how it could play out in your orbit. In general, 2s are one of the most emotionally sensitive people, which would make sense that they’d be so in tune with their empathic sides. They feel so deeply and because of that, almost possess a Piscean vibe that soaks up the energies around them, in their quest to be loved and to create harmony wherever they go.
If you want to dive further into the celestial glow of the number 2, think no further than the High Priestess Tarot card. She holds divine knowledge within her sacred scrolls, reminding you that you have all of the answers within yourself to move forward. You simply have to take the time to drown out the white noise and listen to your powerful inner voice, that’s always whispering what you know to be true.
The 2 craves intimacy and connection, so whenever you see a group of 2’s in a card spread, you have to keep your mind open to the possibilities of an offer or invitation to partner up in some way. Or, the layout may be presenting you with a choice of some kind. It’s an opportunity to cooperate and collaborate on some project or venture that’s being offered to you, depending on the context of the question asked.
On the flip side, however, we also have to explore the shadow side of what the 2 may reveal. The 2 energy may not be the person who’s going to get all up in your face and be ready to confront you on something that’s been bothering them. Instead, they may react passive aggressively, or bury the issue under the rug but harbor resentment that they don’t feel comfortable speaking up about it. They’re the type that may lack healthy boundaries and allow relatives to take advantage of their hospitality at Thanksgiving in an effort to keep the peace.
So part of the lesson of the 2 would be to learn how to grow a pair and stand up for themselves with tact and diplomacy. It’s okay to be assertive once in a while, my lovely 2s, we will still love you. I promise!
This week’s vibrational takeaway in working with the 2 is to think about your relationship to yourself, with others and that relationship you have with your intuition. Where do you need to engage in more self love, compromise and balance? Where do you need to show more compassion and support? If you’re being called to build that relationship with yourself, then this may be a sign to build healthier boundaries and recalibrate that auric field from time to time with a sage or salt cleanse.
To love!

Your One-Card Weekly Reading
Ace of Cups
This week I drew the Ace of Cups as our one-card weekly reading.
In the context of this week’s theme of self-love, the Ace of Cups is a clear reminder of the spiritual nature and value of love.
This week, think about the energy of love – that is, the high vibration of love.
Be open to love in all its forms. As you open to love, so you will attract love to you.
Consciously try to act in a more loving way, towards others, and towards yourself.
Remember, too, that sometimes the best way to practice self-love is to protect yourself from people and activities that aren’t healthy for you.

Marcy Currier on the Psychic Cafe
Show date:
On February 16th, Marcy Currier returned to the Psychic Cafe with some new drawings, and a new concept, for her work-in-progress, the Mystical Frog Tarot. We discussed tarot, creativity, inspiration and creative blocks. It was really interesting to see Marcy's process, as an artist and as a tarotist.
RS11- Another Great Tarot Event!
This past weekend was RS11, the annual Reader’s Studio held by Wald and Ruth Ann Amberstone of the Tarot School in New York City. Reader’s Studio is not the only great annual international tarot event, but it is arguably the most notable. For a tarot reader, it is a place to see and be seen.
Sadly, I’ve yet to make it there. It is held in the spring, a time when I’m often just too busy for any festival that doesn’t involve a Maypole.
This year, since I had so many friends attending RS11, I thought it would be fun to have some roving reporters giving me updates on the goings-on. It didn’t work too well, and I understand why. When I am at a conference or a festival, the last place I want to be is on the phone talking about it. I want to be in the midst of the thing, doing it!
I did manage to see some RS11 tweets, updates and photos go by on social media, only to confirm what I already knew, and what my one trusty reporter was about to tell me.
Readers Studio isn’t about the great workshops or classes, it’s about the opportunity to have conversation, connection, fellowship and networking with some of the world’s most amazing people.
My one trusty reporter is Marcy Currier, who just called me from her Honda Fit on her way home from RS11. Marcy is a dear friend, student and colleague, whose forthcoming Mystical Frog Tarot is likely to be as charming as she is.
Marcy had never before attended The Reader’s Studio. This year I encouraged her to go. Now, she is encouraging me to attend next year. I guess that says it all.
One of my Tarot friends in South Florida is Donna Rawnsley, who also attends Reader’s Studio. We tease her at Tarot Circle because she is always saying that the best part is hanging out in the bar with all the great people. Marcy concurs. Staying at the hotel, sharing meals and drinks together is what makes Reader’s Studio so special.
Marcy was delighted to meet her tarot peers, and to see the different ways they presented themselves. At Reader’s Studio, readers are able to be genuinely themselves. The height of that self-expression is celebrated at the costume banquet. Marcy couldn’t stop talking about the costume banquet, which is a traditional Saturday evening event for many tarot conventions.
The thing about Marcy, though, is she is the queen of costumes. She is the most creative costume maker and wearer I have ever met. So if she was blown away by the costume banquet, and by the general finery and fashion of the attendees throughout the weekend, I can guarantee you it was truly something to see!
I guess no matter how bold we are, as tarot readers we have to know that a lot of the rest of the world thinks we’re weird. At a tarot convention, we are free to be as weird as we are. I remember having a similar sense of comfort at my first national tarot event, an ATA Convention in Albany where I first met Wald and Ruthann.
Marcy enjoyed learning the ways different readers work their tarot businesses, and work tarot into their lives. The tarot world seems bigger to her now, with more possibilities, At the same time, it must also seem smaller, because it is now a world of friends.
The tarot world is lucky to have some talented people that are willing to travel and present at events like Reader’s Studio. The line-up for this year was stellar as always, so I was interested to see whose presentation would really touch Marcy.
Yesterday I kept my eye on the Twitter feed, and noticed particularly a post that said many people were having breakthroughs in Barbara Moore’s class. Would Marcy agree, I wondered?
She did. It was about number three in her stream-of-consciousness cell-phone download into my ear, after how she wished she had stayed at the hotel and how she loved all the great hats.
What she said was that Barbara Moore’s workshop was fantastic and hands-on, and that there are now one hundred new spreads in the world!
What else does Marcy want to say about Reader’s Studio? It left her with a whole new sense of open-mindedness about what tarot is and who tarot is for . . .because tarot is for everybody!
That is an interesting statement from a professional reader and teacher!
She also enjoyed the opening ritual for newcomers, and the opportunity to meet luminaries like Lon Milo DuQuette and Amy and Monte Farber.
My psychic prediction of what comes next for Marcy? She will now begin to enjoy what seems to be for many of my friends the most delicious aspect of Reader’s Studio . . . planning to attend the next one!
