Maybe It’s Not Too Late!

One of the biggest anxieties I see at the tarot table is the fear of the missed opportunity. There is even a specific tarot card that expresses that fear; the Five of Pentacles.

Typically, in that card image we see injured, impoverished people trudging in the snow past a lit building wherein we imagine they might have found shelter.

The question that card sometimes causes us to ask is whether we ourselves have failed to see the opportunity to enter the metaphoric building, or if we have been denied entry or cast out by something over which we have no control.

Is it too late to turn around and enter the door?

It’s true that sometimes we miss once-in-a-lifetime opportunities, and it’s sad when that happens. That can be our own fault, the fault of others, or sometimes just poor timing or bad luck.

Very often, though, I think we miss opportunities because we believe we are already too late, when really, if we thought about it a different way, we might be right on time.

Whether it’s love, success, creativity or happiness we desire, giving up because we believe it’s too late to find what we want is very often a cop-out, and a self-fulfilling prophesy.

The next time you find yourself thinking that a ship has already sailed, think again! Sometimes things of quality just take time to manifest, and sometimes the Universe saves the best for last!

Divine Timing Tarot Spread

We are all waiting for something, whether it is the manifestation of our goals and wishes, the completion of a project, healing from trauma or a long-anticipated relationship.

As time goes on, sometimes it feels that our working and waiting will never avail us. Very often that discouragement causes things to take even longer!

This is an original 13-card tarot spread designed to help you set, understand and meet your goal, cultivate patience along the way, and proactively work toward your success.

Think about a long-term goal, personal or professional, that you have been frustrated with, or worried that it is too late to manifest.

Arrange twelve cards like the face of a clock, starting with the 1 o’clock position as the first card, and laying the cards out clockwise, letting the last card be the 12 o’clock.

Place a final thirteenth card in the very center.

When you interpret a larger spread such as this one, make sure you interpret trends in distribution – are there suits that are prevalent, or missing? Are there lots of Major Arcana cards, or few? What stories do the cards help each other tell? Do some cards give more information than others, or seem more significant?

Card 1 describes your goal, or your feelings about your goal.
Card 2 describes your ability, or actions, or advice to visualize, plan and manifest your goal.
Card 3 describes how you enlist and engage people around you in the process of working toward your goal.
Card 4 describes your fears, worries or problems dealing with the passage of time, and how long it is taking, or might take, to fulfill your goal.
Card 5 describes the impediments thus far – why is it taking so long, or what problems have arisen?
Card 6 offers advice to get yourself moving and motivated.
Card 7 describes something you think or tell yourself that isn’t helpful in achieving your goal.
Card 8 discusses your time management habits as they affect achieving your goal.
Card 9 discusses the role luck and fate may play in your future success.
Card 10 discusses the lessons and achievements you have already accomplished.
Card 11 discusses your capacity for patience, or what you must do to be more patient.
Card 12 shows us your possible final outcome.

The final card, in the center, has to do with divine timing. This is an opportunity for the Universe to ring in and give you advice or insight regarding the spiritual aspects and implications of achieving your goal in the perfect time, and why the perfect time might be later than you thought!

When you perform the spread, consider the advice you are receiving. If there are cards that don’t seem to support your ultimate success, think about what you can do to change those energies and move forward. Interpret all cards as advice for your ultimate success.

Journey

Ralph Waldo Emerson told us that "life is a journey, not a destination."

But what is the purpose of a journey? Sometimes we journey to discover and to learn. Sometimes we journey to connect with people; sometimes we journey to pursue our passions. Sometimes we journey simply for fun.

A journey can have specific goals, but achieving those goals is not the whole of the journey.

When we are able to view life as a journey we are able to enjoy more, learn more and be more passionate about life. We worry less about things that don't really matter, and pay more attention to the things that do. We worry less about the plan, and more about experiencing each detail along the way.

Your Journey Tarot Spread

Here is a four-card spread about your personal life journey. You can use a tarot deck, or any card oracle.

Lay the cards out from left to right.

Card One: Where I am now.

Card Two: What I have learned so far.

Card Three: Where I am going.

Card Four: What I need to know about my journey.

What's Up at the Psychic Café?

As you probably know, Christiana's Psychic Café is a weekly webcast on the Para Encounters Network. Each Sunday at 9 pm EDT I interview guests, play music videos, teach tarot, perform readings and chat about things of interest to the metaphysical community. Since the show began in December my guests have included a comedian, a tarot artist, a tantric healer, musicians, a hoop dancer, Pagan leaders, diviners, authors and more.

All our shows are archived on the Tarot Topics News website. We have a show page on Facebook; please stop by and give us a "Like."

This past week our show fell on March 31, which was Easter Sunday and the day before April Fool's Day.  We had a wonderful time celebrating healing, dance, music and the tarot Fool. Our guests included Michelle and Ron of the Gong Temple, who told us a bit about using gongs to add in meditation and relaxation.

We enjoyed a video about Eric the TranscenDancer.

Anita Perez joined me for a discussion about the Fool and special one-card tarot readings.

You can join the fun by watching the show in archive.

This coming week, April 7, our guest will be outspoken Pagan and professional psychic Helene Martz. People enjoyed her so much when she was a panel guest for our St. Patrick's Day show I thought it would be great to have her back on the show!

We will also have an interview with Eric the TranscenDancer, and enjoy a Kirtan video from Michelle Angel.

Special Saint Patrick's Day Edition

Tarot by Christiana Newsletter

Luck

St. Patrick's Day is often associated with the concept of "luck." What is luck, really? I've often thought that luck doesn't really exist; that there is only skill and the grace of God. On the other hand, some people seem to have a certain type of luck. Gambler's luck, for instance, is like a psychic gift - some people have it and some people don't.

In tarot the card of luck is the Wheel of Fortune. Its spiritual message is simply that we are all subject to the laws of nature. Does that mean that luck itself is a law of nature?

In a way it is. In everyone's life there will be some lucky moments and some unlucky moments. We have no control over that. What we do control is our own actions and attitudes. By being patient and proactive when we need to be, by invoking the guidance of Spirit and by seeing each event in life as an opportunity for growth, we create all the luck we need.

Saint Patrick's Day

Saint Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland. Today our celebration of Saint Patrick's Day often involves wearing green, parades, drinking and an appreciation of all things Irish.

There has been a great deal of controversy in the Pagan community about this holiday. Some Pagans celebrate an alternate holiday called "All Snakes Day." This is born of the legend that Saint Patrick drove all the snakes from Ireland. Some say this was a metaphor for the torture and killing of the ancient Irish Pagans.

In what we now understand as historical reality, Saint Patrick had nothing to do with snakes, and there is no evidence of brutal mistreatment of Pagans by him. It is true that Saint Patrick saw it as his calling to convert the Pagans to Catholicism. Therefore he was certainly guilty of cultural subjugation if nothing else.

Saint Patrick is credited with the creation of what we now know as the Celtic Cross. Symbolically it combined a Pagan symbol with a Christian one. The circle superimposed on the cross is meant to represent the sun, a powerful symbol to the Irish Pagans.

Saint Patrick used the shamrock as a symbol of the holy trinity. His official color is blue. The color green now associated with Saint Patrick's Day may be a Pagan holdover, symbolizing the fertile earth.

I have been lucky enough to visit Ireland. I have a deep appreciation of Irish culture. When I celebrate Saint Patrick's Day I celebrate it as a day to honor Ireland, its beauty, its culture and its people.

Whether Catholic, Pagan, or of any other faith - whether Irish or not - Saint Patrick's Day has become an American tradition. I wish you a wonderful day, and may all the luck 'o the Irish be yours!

What's Up at the Psychic Café?

On March 10th Dax Carlisle joined us at the Psychic Café. Dax is the founder and president of Tarot Guild. We learned how a tarot meetup of 53 members turned into one of the world's largest tarot organizations.

Dax shared some brilliant insights about tarot, and about life. We discussed some tarot business ethics as well.

Our own Robin Renee provided some musical entertainment. A video of Robin performing Elvis Costello's "Alison" was loved by all.

You can watch the show in archive by visiting our Tarot Topics News and Information website.

This Sunday, March 17, is St. Patrick's Day. St. Patrick's Day is a controversial holiday for some and a huge party for others. We'll hear perspectives on St. Patrick's Day from several guests, including Gary Karp and Helene Martz.

Ambiki Devi will share a St. Patrick's Day story and teach us a special way to use our own heart and body as a pendulum.

Robin Renee will share her thoughts about St.Patrick's Day, and she will share a song with us.

As a special treat we will open the show with an Irish-themed song from String Band!

It all happens at 9 pm EDT on the Para Encounters Network. Visit our Show Page on Facebook for more information.

The Leprechaun Spread

Here is an original tarot spread in honor of St. Patrick's Day. You can use it with any oracle deck.

Imagine that you have caught the lucky leprechaun and he has surrendered his pot of gold to you! The question is what is in your pot of gold?

Shuffle your deck and think about all the wonderful things that could be coming to you at this time in your life.

Pick five cards from anywhere in the deck and lay them on the table. These cards represent the contents of your pot of gold.

As you interpret your cards, think about this. Some of the cards may be very positive and reflect wonderful things that are currently in your life, or coming soon to your life. Some of the cards may reflect your own gifts and talents. Some of the cards may reflect difficulties that you are currently facing. If you find difficulties in your pot of gold think about the opportunities and gifts these difficulties present to you. When viewed the right way they, too, are gold.

Your One-Card Weekly Reading

Your One-Card reading for the week is the Two of Swords. Crowley called this the card of "Peace." In many popular decks we see an image of a person who is blindfolded and crossing two swords over her heart.

In the language of tarot, swords can represent thoughts and ideas. Here we see two thoughts at crossed purposes. A decision will need to be made.

Since the heart is crossed off and the eyes are hidden, the decision cannot come from the heart, or from any outside influence. It must be a decision made with logic and reason.

Given that the swords are perfectly balanced, the time of decision-making may be in the near future rather than now. For now we need to be at peace with the situation as it stands, knowing that soon we will have to choose one thing or the other.

Sharing

When we are little sharing is about playing nicely with others. As we get older sharing becomes more about communication. We share thoughts and ideas as well as resources. Sometimes we overshare by revealing too much information about ourselves to the wrong people.

In a community setting we sometimes share by volunteering our time, energy and expertise to worthy causes. In a business setting we often need to be careful about not sharing proprietary secrets.

In a spiritual setting we can share energy, ideas, healing and wisdom. This forms the bonds of the community. When we share of ourselves in the context of charity, spirituality and friendship we make others stronger as we strengthen ourselves.

Sharing in Your Community

Most of us are members of many communities - spiritual communities, work communities, creative communities, on-line communities and recreational communities. And of course, there are the communities in which we live.

The more we share of ourselves within our communities, the better our communities will be.

Sometimes sharing is about helping those in need by raising money or food. Sometimes we share our talents by teaching others new skills. Sometimes we share of ourselves by simply being present at community events.

Tarot offers so many opportunities for sharing. In the tarot community we teach each other about the cards and about ways to use and interpret them. We share readings with each other. Often we volunteer our services to entertain at charity events or to raise money for worthy causes.

Creative communities tend to do the same kinds of things by crafting items to donate to charities or to be sold to raise money. Social and recreational communities often engage in similar activities

When we work together for a common goal we experience fellowship. We make friends, have fun and feel a sense of purpose.

Sometimes people feel that their contributions aren't good enough, or don't make a difference. Really, that is simply never true. Everyone has something to contribute, and everyone's contribution makes a difference.

Too many people feel lonely and isolated, and there is simply no reason this needs to be. There are communities to suit every interest. Even if you live in a remote area you can be a meaningful part of an on-line community.

We all have something to share, and we all benefit from sharing within a community.

Sharing Spread

Here is an original tarot spread about sharing within a community. It is appropriate to use with any tarot or oracle deck.

Card 1. In what way do I benefit from being part of this community?

Card 2. What skills and resources do I normally share with this community?

Card 3. What more could I share with this community?

Lay the cards out left to right. Interpret the card in each position to help you understand and expand your role within your community.

What's up at the Psychic Café

Last Sunday, February 24, Marcy Currier returned to the Psychic Café to show us two new sketches from her upcoming Mystical Frog Tarot, and to discuss a third card.

We saw her Three of Cups and her Five of Cups, and discussed her vision for her Hierophant.

Then I posed some controversial questions of tarot ethics to Marcy. A fun and interesting conversation ensued.

We ended the show with opinions from listens and call-in psychic readings. If you missed the show or want to see it again, you can watch it in archive.

For our first show in March we will have Aliandra Starre as a guest. Aliandra is a Shamanic Astrologer. I am really excited to learn about Shamanic Astrology and how it differs from astrology as we typically understand it.

We will also see a video clip of Ariana Lightningstorm's band, Kiva, performing at the Maryland Faerie Festival, complete with dancing faeries and hoopers.

I will also be performing psychic readings for callers, so get your questions ready!

It all happens Sunday evening, March 3 at 9 pm Eastern, on the Para Encounters Network

Your One-Card Weekly Reading

Your One-Card Reading this week is Strength. Strength is often pictured as a woman with a lion. In a contest of psychical strength the lion could kill the woman, but the woman has tamed the lion. Somehow, as frail as the woman is, she has conquered the lion. She controls his wild nature, and subdues his anger. Her ability to do this comes from her loving, gentle nature.

This card reminds us that love is the greatest strength. We must temper anger and keep our baser nature under control.

This card affirms that we have the strength we need to conquer whatever we must, as long as love is the source of that strength.

February Global Tarot Circle Recap

We had a great group for our February Global Tarot Circle, ranging from brand new readers to professionals. In honor of Valentine's Day our topic was Love and Tarot.

We started the meeting with "Introductions and Burning Questions."  Each person had to say where in the world they were, if they read for themselves and/or for others, and how often they found themselves turning to the cards to answer questions about love and romance. Each person was allowed to ask a "burning question," that is, either a question about the cards themselves or a question about their own lives appropriate for a virtual room full of tarot readers.

Interestingly, many of our burning questions really focused us on the topic, since many of the questions were love-related.

Once we worked through all the burning questions we focused on our discussion questions, which were:

  1. What does the Lovers Major Arcana 6 say to you?
  2. What cards predict a happy love relationship?
  3. What are typical questions people ask tarot about love?
  4. How do we avoid bringing our own experiences/lack of experiences to our readings?

Question 2, about cards that predict a happy love relationship, gave us an interesting answer. One person used the Five of Pentacles as a card that predicts a happy relationship. The rest of us had never thought about that before. He explained that in that card he saw "For better or worse." This was a great example of the value of Tarot Circle as an opportunity to share our thoughts and ideas with one another.

The next Global Tarot Circle will be March 18 at 7 pm Eastern time. Our discussion topic will be fate, luck, karma and destiny. Join us by visiting the event listing on the Tarot Circle website.
