Hear Your Inner Voice
We all have an inner voice that guides us, but sometimes it’s hard to hear. This week, Tarot Topics helps you tune in to your inner wisdom.
Intuition is the inner voice, the “little voice”, and the “gut reaction”. Sometimes it’s hard to distinguish between that inner voice which speaks needed truth, and the other “voices” vying for attention. Those other voices often have names such as “fear”, “anxiety” and “desire”.
How do you hear your truth? What does the truth feel like when you hear it?
Three Ways to Hear Your Inner Voice in Tarot
Tarot reading is both intuitive and interpretive. If you’ve been studying your card meanings, but want to access the true psychic nature of the divinatory process, try these three techniques to increase your ability to hear your inner voice during a reading.
1. Perform your reading in sacred space. This includes using meditation and energy work to attune yourself to your higher wisdom, and welcome in the support of Spirit. Pay special attention to your breathing. Just as in yoga and exercise, breathing is very important in intuitive work.
2. Pay attention to your senses. As you are performing the reading, what are you sensing? Do you hear something, or see something out of the corner of your eye? Does a memory from your own life pop in, and seem pertinent?
We experience intuition with our whole bodies, so pay attention to what you feel in your whole body during a reading.
3. Let the cards talk to you. What do the cards say to you? What do you see in the pictures? How do they make you feel? Are there particular images that stick out as especially significant? Go beyond your memorized interpretations, and let the cards speak.
The Week in Review
This week, on my personal blog, I shared “An Open Letter to Spiritual Seekers: Disillusion is Part of the Path.”
You may have heard that we got a lot of rain here in Tampa this week. On my Dark Forest blog, I shared a video of a frog singing in the rain. It took me a while to find the source of the loud chirping, but when I did, I fell in love with this cute little guy. You will too!
From Around the Web
For your listening pleasure, here’s an archive of a podcast from the Audacious Eleven, featuring my friend Robin Renee. The topic is “I Need a Good Psychic!”
Here’s an interesting article on what it means to “hold space” for people, from Heather Plett.

Two Tarot Cards for the Inner Voice
If you want to be more intuitive, get a tarot deck and learn how to use it! The process of working with the images of tarot will absolutely increase your intuition, and your ability to distinguish truth.
There are a few cards that specifically speak of intuition. When these cards appear, you may be directed to pay more attention to your own truth, and to deeply listen to your own intuition.
Two cards of intuition are the High Priestess and the Moon. They are both Major Arcana cards, and both related to the element of Water.
The High Priestess instructs us to journey into the realm of the subconscious, and discover what lies there. What are the secrets you keep, even from yourself? How can you bring those things to light?
Spend some time in meditation with the High Priestess, and you may find you deep, internal truth.
The Moon speaks of the spiritual questions that we all share, and the answers we all seek. These are not as much personal truths as they are Universal truths.
Each of these cards can have mundane meanings and predictive interpretations. However, each of these cards also carries a separate special message.
That message is an invitation to hear your inner voice.

Card Fourteen: Fox
Card Fourteen, Fox, is sometimes considered a negative card. This card can be a warning against deception and deceit. When the Fox is present, there may be lies, or even illegal activities.
Sometimes, though, a strategic approach is necessary. Sometimes the Fox can discuss the difficult things we must negotiate to take care of ourselves and our family. In this way, the Fox can refer to hard work, and a cunning nature.
The Fox is related to the Nine of Clubs. This can indicate a possible promotion, a sense of fate pushing you forward, or an indication of a distance to be traveled.
Next week, we will explore Card Fifteen, Bear.

The Darker Side of Venus
This week, Tarot Topics explores Venus in retrograde. Find your inner beauty and heal your heart with tarot!
The Darker Side of Venus
Venus will be in retrograde from July 25 until September 6. The conventional warnings about the time of Venus retrograde include avoiding the purchase of luxury items, being careful about ill-advised liaisons, and avoiding beauty procedures, even haircuts.
Whether or not you choose to follow this advice, the Venus retrograde is an interesting time to consider the ways in which Venus tempts us, and sometimes leads us astray.
Do you overspend on items you regret later?
Do you worry too much about your appearance?
Do you sacrifice too much in unhealthy relationships?
What tempts you to make poor decisions in love?
The next month offers an opportunity to examine your behaviors, heal, and find your inner beauty.
Love and Tarot
Often we approach tarot with questions about love and romance. We want some assurance of a happy future.
The cards can be very helpful in directing communication and compromise within a relationship. The cards can also sometimes reveal hidden agenda and unwise associations.
What we often want the cards to reveal, however, is the exact date that we will meet our true love. Sometimes the cards will do exactly that, but not always.
Sometimes the cards seem more interested in helping us heal, and helping us understand ourselves, than they are in predicting our future. When that happens, I think about this. Sometimes the decisions we make, especially in love, really matter. Tarot can help us evaluate our situations, and help us make the logical decisions that will bring us to the most happiness possible, in love and in life.
The Week in Review
This week, Joanne Matthew shared some Tarot Haiku on my Community Blog. She wrote a haiku for each of the Major Arcana. This is a shining example of the way tarot can inspire poetry.
On my Dark Forest blog, I offer some “Energetic Cures for Obnoxious Neighbors.” Remember, Venus is about love and war. If you find yourself at war with a neighbor, here are some things to try.

Inner Beauty Tarot Spread
Tarot mirrors life. Sometimes it’s helpful to get a reminder of our inner beauty, to receive a clue to understand that deep and strong part of ourselves.
Here’s a two-card tarot spread to help you see your inner beauty. Let the first card show some aspect of your inner beauty. Let the second card show the source of that beauty.

Card Twelve: Birds
Birds is about conversation, communication, gossip and chatter. This card can indicate busy times and quick action. It suggests meetings, interviews and high energy gatherings.
Since communication can be either meaningful or mean, the Birds is considered a neutral card. Look to the surrounding cards and the context of the question to ascertain your role in this conversation, or how it will affect you.
The playing card association for the Birds is the Seven of Diamonds. This can indicate arguments, difficult conversations and irritation.
Next week we will explore card thirteen in the Lenormand system, the Child.

Your One-Card Weekly Reading
Your one-card reading this week is the Three of Swords. Drawn at random, this is an appropriate card as we approach the time of Venus retrograde.
Now is the time to acknowledge the things that have hurt your heart. As much as possible, find ways to release and heal from the pain.
Understand that life must always include difficulty, and love always includes a risk. Nonetheless, your heart can heal, and can be made strong and whole, simply by filling it with love.

Develop Your Intuition
This week, Tarot Topics offers practical advice to help you develop your intuition. Learn about a free tarot webinar, and a presentation about tarot at Seffner Mango Branch Library!
Intuition is our inner guidance, our Higher Self, and our ability to hear the voices of our angels. We all have the gift of intuition. When we make a practice of mindfulness, meditation, prayer and divination, our intuition grows stronger. The more we use our intuition, the more wisdom we are able to discern.
Sometime fear and doubt, or wishful thinking, can confuse us. It’s difficult to tell the difference between anxiety and intuition.
We find truth when we release our attachments and expectations.
When we develop intuition, we meet whatever comes with confidence in our own ability to find guidance and wisdom.
Five Easy Ways to Develop Your Intuition
Here are five simple things you can do every day to help you tune in to your intuitive abilities.
1. Practice conscious breathing. The breath is an important aspect of psychic work, yoga, meditation and manifestation. When you seek truth, pay attention to your breathing, and the truth will become clear.
2. Study divination. When we work with tarot, pendulums, astrology, I Ching and other divinatory methods, we attune ourselves to the wisdom of the Universe, and open ourselves to greater knowledge.
3. Meditate. Whether you meditate in stillness, or in motion, taking time to ground, center, relax and attune will open you to knowledge.
4. Keep a journal. Keep a record of your thoughts, moods and insights. Make predictions and write them down. Write about your divinatory practices. Read over your writings from time to time, and learn from the patterns you observe.
5. Pay attention to your dreams. Write down your dreams in your journal, and think about their meaning in your life. Set intentions for your dreams, and work to maintain a lucid state while dreaming. Find the intuitive wisdom that hides within your dreams.

Three Ways to Read Tarot Intuitively
Tarot is an intuitive tool, as well as an interpretive one. Whether or not you use the classic interpretive values of the cards, you can divine wisdom simply by letting the cards inspire you.
It’s also true that, even in a reading that is strictly interpretive, a reader will favor one classic card meaning over another, because he or she feels, intuitively, that interpretation is correct for the situation. Intuition is always at work when we read tarot, whether we realize it or not.
Try these three tarot reading techniques to develop your intuition and your tarot reading skills.
1. Just describe what you see in the pictures, or how the cards make you feel.
2. Look at the card and breathe. Hold the card to your heart, and feel its energy. Listen for your inner wisdom.
3. Allow your eyes to be drawn to one small section of a tarot card. Look only at that small image. What does that image tell you?

Card 10: The Scythe
The Scythe is about the things we cut away. This card can be a warning of something that needs to be quickly removed, or a warning to protect yourself against another’s swift action.
The Scythe can indicate pain, surgery, or the end of a relationship. The mood of the card is logical and analytical, rather than emotional. Sometimes the Scythe presents the solution to a problem, sometimes it indicates a wound.
The timing of the Scythe is quick. This is considered a negative card, even though the action it represents in a reading might be positive or necessary.
The Scythe is associated with the Jack of Diamonds. This can be a messenger, a person bringing news, or a young man, often with light coloring.
Next week, we will explore card 11, Whip, also known as Birch and Broom.

Learning from the Past
This week, Tarot Topics discusses the ways we learn from the past, and how tarot helps us do that!
The poet George Santayana said that those who cannot remember the past are doomed to repeat it. This holds true for individuals as well as for nations.
Too often, we look to the past with regret, or with longing. In fact, the past can be our greatest teacher. When we look back and see the patterns that have developed in our lives, we have the power to break unhealthy patterns, and to find success in healthy ones.
When we learn the wisdom and skills of our elders, we are learning from the past in another way.
When we learn from the past, we prepare for a bright, new future.
Questions about the Past
As we work with tarot, we often turn to the cards to find closure and understanding about difficult things that happened in the past.
Here is a way to use tarot to explore the traumas of the past, with the intention of learning, healing and releasing.
Shuffle your cards, ask a question, and pull a single card in answer. Spend some time in contemplation, journaling and meditation about the answers you receive.
Use only the questions that seem resonant for you. You can create questions of your own as well.
What did I learn from this difficulty?
What do I regret about this situation?
How should I respond to my regrets about this situation?
What, if anything, must I do to resolve this situation now?
What unexpected gifts did this situation bring me?
Spiritually, why did this happen?
How will this help me in the future?
The Week in Review
This week, I answered another question about tarot on my YouTube Channel and on the Community Blog. You can read my answer and watch my video about how tarot cards discuss issues specifically resonant for people in LBGT communities.
On my personal blog, I wrote a post for professional tarot readers, about times when good news isn’t well-received.
From Around the Web
I was excited that a conversation with Theresa Reed from an episode of Christiana’s Psychic Café inspired a blog post from Dreadlock Tarot. If you are a professional reader, you will enjoy this helpful post about reading tarot in shops.

Four Tarot Cards that Look to the Past
Typically, tarot readings offer information about the past, as well as the present and future. The focus on the past happens not only to confirm the veracity of the reading. The past can show up in a reading to help us identify patterns, and to help us become proactive authors of our own life story.
Often, tarot helps us understand things that happened in the past, so we can learn our lessons, heal and move on.
Here are four tarot cards that can specifically reference things of the past.
Six of Cups: The Six of Cups is the card of nostalgia and happy memories. Often, this card advises a return to the childhood home, a re-connection with family or a contemplation of personal history.
Ten of Pentacles: The Ten of Pentacles is the card of ancestry and legacy. This card invites us to consider what we have inherited from our ancestors, and what we have learned from our parents, both good and bad.
Hermit: The archetype of the Hermit is “wise old man.” Sometimes learning from the past means learning from someone who was there before we were. The Hermit can refer to the wise counsel from our elders.
Judgment: Judgment tells us that it is time to evaluate the past, and put closure to it. Judgment asks us to evaluate our performance, and to take an accounting of what we learned. From there, Judgment directs us to put closure to the past, without regret.
What’s up at the Psychic Café?
You’ll be happy to hear I will finally have my interview with Hal Weeks available for you to view on my YouTube channel this weekend!
Hal is the fascinating author of Wickwillow Tarot. You’ll learn how he blends the styles of Tarot de Marseilles, Crowley-Harris-Thoth and Waite-Smith in both his reading style, and in the art and symbolism of his unique tarot deck.
Make sure you subscribe to my YouTube channel, and check out the many tarot videos I have for you!
Snake, from Gilded Reverie Lenormand, by Ciro Marchetti.
Learning Lenormand
Card Seven: Snake
The Snake may appear to warn us of an enemy, or to let us know of a person’s selfish behavior.
The Snake may predict betrayal, dishonesty or manipulation. This card can discuss many kinds of problems. Typically, the Snake is considered a negative card.
In a literal sense, the Snake can discuss problems with electrical wires, cables or plumbing, that is, things that are physically snake-like.
The Snake can indicate a seductress, or an untrustworthy woman.
As the Queen of Clubs, this card can indicate an active, brown-haired woman.
Next week, we will learn about card Eight, Coffin.

Your One-Card Weekly Reading
Your one-card reading this week is The Lovers.
This is a very interesting card. While it can refer to an actual love relationship, often the Lovers appears to offer us some particular advice.
The Lovers reminds us to find balance in our lives, and to be able to integrate the different aspects of self into a complete whole.
The Lovers tells us that we must work to be a complete and balanced person.
The Lovers also speaks to important decisions, and our need to weigh our options carefully.
