Co-Creation and Inspiration

We can focus our energy to set intentions and manifest our desires, but only with the blessing, acceptance, and participation of divine inspiration.

Calm relaxing female office worker feels relieved and stress free meditates indoor keeps eyes closed surrounded with colorful sticky notes takes break from work for mental balance avoids stressful job.

When I was a little girl in Sunday School, our teachers taught us that God inspired the writers of the Bible. Our church was not fundamentalist, and thus did not believe that the Bible was the infallible word of God. Our doctrine taught us to believe that the Bible was written by people (mostly men) who were inspired by God.

This was the beginning of my journey toward understanding inspiration, and the Higher Power that can influence us, and push and prod us, to create wondrous things.

There are many names for that Higher Power. Some use terms like God or Goddess, some use the names of deities. Some say only ‘Spirit’.
Over time, I have started referring to that Higher Power simply as the universe. Perhaps I am inspired by a line in a favorite poem, Desiderata, “You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here”.

I think about inspiration in two ways. There is the inspiration that comes to us from the words of a friend, a song, a poem, or a story. Then, there is the inspiration that flows through us when we are performing at our best and seem to be in ‘the zone’ where our energy feels guided in an otherworldly way.

It may that both of those types of inspiration are divine. If I am inspired by something that was created by human hands but inspired by the divine, the ultimate source is still mystical.

As humans, we are all creative beings. Not everyone can sing, write, knit, or draw. Yet, we all create something, sometimes knowingly, other times unknowingly.

There are many schools of thought that tells us to focus our energy on a specific goal, set an intention and manifest that goal through spiritual means. We call this ‘Creative Visualization’, ‘The Secret’, ‘The Law of Attraction’, or simply the power of magic or the power of prayer.

Sometimes our ability to manifest our desires is thwarted. We do not always get what we want. This does not necessarily mean that we did not focus our energy well enough, or visualize clearly enough, or believe strongly enough. Part of life is accepting that some things do not go our way.

It is in this understanding that we look to Higher Power, not just as a source of inspiration, but as a source of limitations and higher wisdom that we sometimes struggle to accept.

Even in that struggle, there can be divinely sourced inspiration that shows us a new path. Sometimes the universe says to us, ‘not this, but that’.

This is why I love the concept that we are able to create our future, our fate, our destiny, but only in collaboration with the universe. Together, with the universe, we are inspired toward creativity, growth, and healing. Together, we the universe, we are co-creators of our divinely inspired lives.

Intention and Manifestation with Tarot

By focusing on a tarot card that represents your desires, you can incorporate tarot into your co-creation. You can also let tarot inspire you on your journey. Here is a three-card spread that can help get you started.

Let Card One represent your intention, or help you find a new intention.

Let Card Two show you how to manifest that intention.

Let Card Three give you a sense of what this intention, brought into being, will become.

Guidance on the Journey

Can Major Arcana 1, The Magician, speak to us of creativity, manifestation, and magic?

So often we think of the Magician as an initiate, or a student. We think of learning to use and acknowledge our tools, skills, and abilities.

Since the Magician is connected to Mercury, we also see a trickster energy in this card, as well as an admonishment to strive for good communication.

Yet, I think there is room in this card to find within it an inspiration to use our magical energy, and to connect to the inspiration of divinity. Since it is named The Magician, we can certainly see that power, and that magic, within this card.

Activate an Omen

We all look for signs from the Universe. Here is a way to make sure we receive them.

AdobeStock_265794464-2500x1667.jpg

Most of us look for omens around us, either consciously or unconsciously. It might be a song on the radio, or a wild animal that catches our attention. We find messages from the Universe in these omens. We see them as signs of confirmation and validation, warnings, or messages from angels and loved ones in spirit.

I was speaking with a friend recently who told me how she makes a deal with the Universe in order to receive a particular message. I thought this was a brilliant idea, so I wanted to share it with you.

In the cartomancy world, we ‘activate’ specific cards to mean certain things. What my friend does is to activate a symbol to serve as a positive omen regarding a specific aspect of her life.

Here’s how you can do this.

If you are working toward, or waiting for, a specific thing to happen in your life, like a great job or a great relationship, find an item in nature that is not plentiful, but that could possibly appear in the world around you. For example, you might choose a green feather, or a blue butterfly. Tell the Universe that when you are about to find, or have found, the thing you are waiting for in your life, it must show you this symbol in a way that is unmistakable.

I have named this process ‘activating an omen’.

I think this process is helpful for three reasons. First, when you activate the omen, you are also affirming to yourself and to the Universe that you are seeking, and expecting, something wonderful in your life. The very act of doing this will bring you closer to your goal.

The second reason this is helpful is that it keeps you focused on achieving your goal.

The third reason is that, when you do achieve your goal and receive your omen, you will move forward in confidence. You will be confident that you are on the right path, and confident that the Universe is working with you as a co-creator in helping you reach your goals. You will know that the Universe listens to you, and is communicating directly with you.

Activate a Tarot Card

To activate a tarot card is to create an agreement between yourself, the Universe, and your cards that a specific card will have a specific meaning beyond its usual meaning.

You might activate a card for one certain reading only. Or, you might activate a card to symbolize something special and specific over time.

Sometimes it seems that a card will activate itself by appearing in readings to mean a specific non-traditional thing time and time again.

For example, when I was living in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania and wanting to move to Florida, the Sun would come up in ways that made me think of this goal. It felt like this card was being activated to symbolize my move to Florida. Even to this day, when I see the Sun come up in a reading for someone, it will sometimes discuss a Florida vacation or relocation.

If you are performing a reading about a specific topic, you might choose a card cognitively, and activate that card to give a positive answer to your question, should it appear in the reading. For example, you might say that if the Three of Pentacles appears in this reading, that will be a sure sign that I should take this job offer.

Cards for Your Consideration

When I think about working directly with Universal energies to achieve goals and to receive omens, the card I think of first is Major Arcana 1, the Magician. This is for a number of reasons.

First, it’s in the name. The Magician does magic! The Magician harnesses the power of earth and heaven to help him on his journey.

Keywords for the Magician include tools, skills and abilities. This card affirms that we have what we need to manifest what we want, in mundane ways as well as magical ones.

The Magician is an initiate. He is beginning his journey and learning to wield his power. He asks us to do the same.

Tools and Teams

When we have the right people and the right skills, there is nothing we can't do.

AdobeStock_337257545-2500x1667.jpg

They say that no person is an island. As much as we like to feel self-sufficient, we all need help sometimes. In fact, most of the time we do better when we have a good toolbox and a good team.

What is in our toolbox and who is on our team can depend on who we are, what we need and what we are trying to accomplish. Tools can include anything from technology to cookbooks to tarot cards. Team members can be friends and family, co-workers, collaborators, coaches, healers, or therapists.

It’s likely that we all need a number of different toolboxes, and a number of different teams.

Sometimes those tools and helpful people make themselves known to us even before we go looking for them. Sometimes they are provided to us by our school, our workplace, or the Universe.

The more we are conscious of the tools we have, the better we will do. The more we understand how to be proactive about assembling our tools, the further we will go.

Teams of people can be even harder to assemble than sets of tools. There is an old spiritual adage that says, “When the student is ready, the teacher will appear”. The same may be true for all team members, some of whom may indeed be teachers, others of whom may be healers, helpers, friends and associates.

Sometimes it feels like we are not even playing on our own team. Sometimes we don’t feel able to release an unhelpful team member.

Sometimes we don’t understand the tools we need, or don’t know where to look to find what we need.

It is in those moments that we must take a personal accounting of our needs, our behaviors, and our assets. Then, we must find a way to manifest what we need. We learn that faith in ourselves, faith in our path, and faith in the Universe is our first and most important tool.

No matter our goals in life, once we have that faith, the very first step is in accumulating the tools, and the people, who will help us on our journey.

Tarot is such an amazing tool to help you find your right tools and team members, and to help you learn to work with them well.

The key in this pursuit is to learn to ask the right questions.

Here are the sorts of questions that can be very helpful.

In what way is this a good tool for me?

How can I learn to use this tool?

What tool should I learn now?

How can this person help me?

How can I work best with this person?

Cards for Your Consideration

The tarot deck itself is such an important tool. On a spiritual level I think we sometimes feel that tarot connects us to our team of human and angelic collaborators.

One of the cards I most associate with the idea of finding and using your tools is the Magician. When this card appears, we are encouraged to take an accounting of our tools, skills, and abilities. Perhaps we need to engage in focused study.

In the Minor Arcana, both the Three and Eight of Pentacles can speak to the use of tools, and the need to acquire the ability to use tools well.

Finding the right helpers and collaborators is a theme that can appear in many tarot cards, including Major Arcana cards such as the Lovers and Temperance, and Minor Arcana cards such as the Two of Cups and the Six of Pentacles.
In any reading, we could see references to the need for a good team and a good set of tools, because these concepts are so important to our success in life.

Dream Big!

It's important to have a vision for your life.

AdobeStock_272570566-2500x1196.jpg

Dream Big!

Believe in yourself and visualize your success!

I know a lot of people who like to keep their expectations for life small, so as to avoid disappointment. Yet, many spiritual people believe that in order to achieve something you have to first conceive of it, and then, believe in it. I think there is value in having big dreams.

Not every dream comes true, but many do. The question is, what are the things we can do to be proactive in achieving our greatest desires?

The first thing is to have a clear vision of what you want. Make it be something big, but also make it be something that fits within your skillset. Don’t try to become a great singer if you can’t carry a tune, for example.

The second is to make sure that what you think you want is actually what you want. Many young girls dream of marrying a wealthy man. Yet, if he isn’t kind, and if you aren’t attracted to him, that sort of marriage could become a prison.

The third thing is to do the work you need to do to make your dreams happen. This is where the spiritual truth of “as above, so below” matters. What we do on the mundane level is reflected on the spiritual level and vice versa. So, pray for what you want, but also do the work to get there.

The more that you can see your dreams as real and possible in your mind, the more likely they are to happen. This is where vision boards, treasure maps and other visualization exercises become very helpful.

So often we are afraid to dream big because we don’t feel worthy enough, or good enough. It is important to know our value and our skills. We need to believe in ourselves in order to believe in our dreams. We need to believe in ourselves so that others will believe in us, too.

Wonderful things happen to people all the time. Every day people make great friends, meet good partners, get great jobs and build amazing businesses. If other people’s dreams can come true, why not yours?

There’s a great quote from Les Brown that says, “Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss you will land among the stars”. What a great justification for dreaming big! Rather than keeping our goals small and manageable, why not shoot for the moon, and then be happy wherever we land?

Another quote about big dreams that I love is from the musical “South Pacific”. The song, “Happy Talk,” was also an Ella Fitzgerald hit. The quote is probably familiar to you. “You got to have a dream, if you don’t have a dream, how you gonna have a dream come true?”

Cards for Your Consideration

This week I want to consider a very interesting tarot deck. The Art of Life Tarot Deck by Charlene Livingstone uses famous works of art and quotations to illustrate each of the seventy-eight cards. This deck is a great tool for understanding the archetypes of tarot. It’s also a particularly good deck for one-card draws.

A card from this deck that particularly illustrates the idea of dreaming big is Major Arcana One, The Magician.

Typically, keywords for the Magician are tools, skills, abilities, learning and new beginnings. These are all things that are required if we want to achieve big things.

The quote associated with this card is from William Henley. It reads, “I am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soul.”

This is a great affirmation for dreamers who also want to be achievers.
