What is Your Energy?
This week we are contemplating what it is to know your own energy, and how to use tarot to help perceive it.
We use the word ‘energy’ to mean a lot of different things. Energy can be your sense of motivation. Energy can be what cooks your food. The life force energy that exists within all of us is something that we can use to heal ourselves and others, through a variety of energy healing techniques.
Energy is also the unique vibe you put out into the world.
Energy is the feeling people get when they are around you.
It’s interesting that other people may feel and recognize your energy more than you do. Often, we don’t realize that people see us as loving, or competent, or funny, or warm or playful. We can’t always tell how others feel when they are around us.
We are all a conglomeration of energies and attributes, and each of us has a unique energy signature.
Can we control our energy? To some extent, yes. If we work to be peaceful, we will exude that energy of peace. If we work to be efficient, we will put out vibes that let others know that we can get the job done quickly and well.
Our social energy is part of the equation, too. Are you an introvert, extrovert, or somewhere in between?
The Myers-Briggs personality types can be seen, in a way, as a description of the energy we cultivate.
Aura photography is a way to visually see what our energy field looks like.
If we pay attention to sensing the energy of others around us, we get a better sense of how to feel energy, and how it affects us. This can make it easier to sense our own energy.
In meditation, we can slow down and focus in order to feel the energy around us, and settle in to an understanding of what we feel like to others.
Sometimes we feel naturally drawn to people simply because we like their energy. Sometimes we feel repelled by people for the same reason.
To become familiar with your energy is a good way to learn to know yourself and love yourself.
To cultivate the energy that you want to express to the world is a good way to embrace personal healing and growth.
Perhaps the energy we put into the world is a window into our soul; that part of us that existed before we were born, and that will continue to exist when we die. Perhaps our energy is the expression of that sacred part of us that is eternal.

I’ve landed in Connecticut and am available for readings by appointment at True Bikram Yoga in Madison through August 26. I can also come to your home or office for a house call or psychic house party. I can travel to Rhode Island or other local areas.
It’s always a pleasure to return to Connecticut. I look forward to seeing old friends and making new ones. You can call me or text me at 561-655-1160 to arrange your appointment.
Don’t miss this opportunity to get an in-person reading with me.
Of course, whenever I travel, I remain available for readings by phone, Skype, FaceTime and Messenger, so we can work together no matter where in the world we are!
How to Read Energy with Tarot
When you want to know about a person, or about yourself, you can simply ask the cards, “Who is this person?” or “Who am I?” or “Who is Sam?”
Pull a few cards and look for the story you see there. What energies do you see in these cards? What type of experiences have shaped this person? How is this person feeling?
All of these things add up together to give you a read on the person’s energy.
So often we talk about people being ‘good’ or ‘bad’. It’s much more helpful to discover a person’s energy, which melds many factors into something you can recognize and understand.
When you look at the cards, try to fill in the blanks on these sentences.
I am a person who…
My priorities are….
I feel…
I care about…
Obviously, if you are looking at someone else, replace the word ‘I’ with their name.
When we use the cards in the exploration of personal energy, we become better able to know ourselves and others.
When we think of each tarot card as expressing an energy, we develop a new tool for reading tarot.
Special Tarot Class This Sunday!
This Sunday, August 18, from 7 pm to 9 pm, I am teaching a class called The Tarot Court: A Universal Mirror at True Bikram Yoga, 1347 Boston Post Road, Madison, Connecticut.
Tarot is a book of spiritual wisdom in picture form. With it, we are able to learn about ourselves, communicate with others and understand our world.
The sixteen Court cards of the tarot, that is, the Kings, Queens, Knights, Pages, are some of the most versatile cards in the deck. The Court cards can help us understand ourselves, our talents, our fears, and our motivations.
In this class you will learn a variety of ways to interpret these cards when they appear and find all the possible messages within them.
Bring a tarot deck or borrow a deck at class. Class fee is $35, payable to True Bikram Yoga.
I hope to see you there!

Cards for Your Consideration
The Ace of Wands is the perfect card to consider when we talk about chi life force energy. Wands, also known as Rods, Staves and Batons, is the suit typically associated with the element of Fire. Fire is our passion, our creativity and our energy.
Aces are the number One, and are associated with new beginnings, source and essence. Therefore, we can see the Ace of Wands as the essence and source of Fire, which is our life energy.
Typically, the Ace of Wands can describe a new creative project, or a new feeling of enthusiasm.
In many tarot decks, included the one pictured here, the Smith-Waite Centennial, the Wands are shown sprouting new life. It’s interesting that, through associated with Fire, they are not shown burning, but rather, sprouting.
That’s because the energy of the Ace of Wands, and the suit of Wands, is not about destruction. Rather, it’s about the life force that is growing and blooming within us all.

Traveling always reminds me of one of the greatest lessons of the Tarot Fool; that life is a journey, not a destination.
The journey of life can sometimes feel like an adventure, but sometimes it feels more like a dangerous trail to be carefully navigated. There are pitfalls, heartaches and disappointments along the way, just as there are joys, discoveries and blessings.
A tarot reading is a good tool to help give us a roadmap of the journey, and to offer an opportunity to chart our course for the best possible experience along the way.
When we find ourselves on a particularly bumpy part of life’s path, it is important to remember that sometimes we simply must keep our head up, our eyes forward and our feet moving.
As we move forward, we move through our difficulties, and toward something brighter. This process happens more easily when we anticipate, and work to manifest, a smoother road ahead.

Cards for Your Consideration
My Very First Divination Deck
Since I am writing this from Connecticut, the place where I began my tarot career so long ago, I think it is appropriate to share with you my very first divination deck.
I received this early edition of the Gypsy Witch Fortune Telling Playing Cards in my Christmas stocking when I was just eight years old. My mother loved a good novelty gift, and, to her, divination was nothing more than a novelty.
Little did she know that this particular gift would turn out to be so very prophetic!
I remember finding truth in the cards even then.
As a young adult, I encountered I Ching and then, finally, tarot. I remembered back to my childhood experiences with divination, and how profound that had felt. I had no idea what had become of that little deck of cards that had first introduced me to the idea of card reading.
After my mother passed away, I found she had saved them in a box of some of my childhood belongings. Now, they sit on my tarot shelf, surrounded by my extensive collection of tarot and oracle decks.
I’ve learned that the Gypsy Witch Fortune Telling Playing Cards are quite similar to the Lenormand cards, and are still available today from US Games Systems, Inc. Surprisingly, they still come in the same orange box!

Cards for Your Consideration
This week I want to talk about the Six of Cups, because it related to my trip to Connecticut.
The image here is from the design of A.E. Waite and the drawings of Pamela Colman Smith; the world’s most popular tarot images.
The Six of Cups is about looking to the past. It can predict a reunion with old friends or revisiting a situation from the past. This card can discuss the history between people. Very often, the Six of Cups talks about a return to the home of one’s past.
This card can indicate a sense of nostalgia, or a connection that seems to have been forged in a prior life.
The Six of Cups stirs up memories, honors history and expresses the joy of reuniting with old friends.
