Develop Your Intuition

This week, Tarot Topics offers practical advice to help you develop your intuition. Learn about a free tarot webinar, and a presentation about tarot at Seffner Mango Branch Library!

Intuition is our inner guidance, our Higher Self, and our ability to hear the voices of our angels. We all have the gift of intuition. When we make a practice of mindfulness, meditation, prayer and divination, our intuition grows stronger. The more we use our intuition, the more wisdom we are able to discern.

Sometime fear and doubt, or wishful thinking, can confuse us. It’s difficult to tell the difference between anxiety and intuition.

We find truth when we release our attachments and expectations.

When we develop intuition, we meet whatever comes with confidence in our own ability to find guidance and wisdom.

Five Easy Ways to Develop Your Intuition

Here are five simple things you can do every day to help you tune in to your intuitive abilities.

1.    Practice conscious breathing. The breath is an important aspect of psychic work, yoga, meditation and manifestation. When you seek truth, pay attention to your breathing, and the truth will become clear.

2.    Study divination. When we work with tarot, pendulums, astrology, I Ching and other divinatory methods, we attune ourselves to the wisdom of the Universe, and open ourselves to greater knowledge.

3.    Meditate. Whether you meditate in stillness, or in motion, taking time to ground, center, relax and attune will open you to knowledge.

4.    Keep a journal. Keep a record of your thoughts, moods and insights. Make predictions and write them down. Write about your divinatory practices. Read over your writings from time to time, and learn from the patterns you observe.

5.    Pay attention to your dreams. Write down your dreams in your journal, and think about their meaning in your life. Set intentions for your dreams, and work to maintain a lucid state while dreaming. Find the intuitive wisdom that hides within your dreams.

Three Ways to Read Tarot Intuitively

Tarot is an intuitive tool, as well as an interpretive one. Whether or not you use the classic interpretive values of the cards, you can divine wisdom simply by letting the cards inspire you.

It’s also true that, even in a reading that is strictly interpretive, a reader will favor one classic card meaning over another, because he or she feels, intuitively, that interpretation is correct for the situation. Intuition is always at work when we read tarot, whether we realize it or not.

Try these three tarot reading techniques to develop your intuition and your tarot reading skills.

1.    Just describe what you see in the pictures, or how the cards make you feel.

2.    Look at the card and breathe. Hold the card to your heart, and feel its energy. Listen for your inner wisdom.

3.    Allow your eyes to be drawn to one small section of a tarot card. Look only at that small image. What does that image tell you?

Card 10: The Scythe

The Scythe is about the things we cut away. This card can be a warning of something that needs to be quickly removed, or a warning to protect yourself against another’s swift action.

The Scythe can indicate pain, surgery, or the end of a relationship. The mood of the card is logical and analytical, rather than emotional. Sometimes the Scythe presents the solution to a problem, sometimes it indicates a wound.

The timing of the Scythe is quick. This is considered a negative card, even though the action it represents in a reading might be positive or necessary.

The Scythe is associated with the Jack of Diamonds. This can be a messenger, a person bringing news, or a young man, often with light coloring.

Next week, we will explore card 11, Whip, also known as Birch and Broom.

Super Power!

What’s your super power? We all have skills and talents. We also each have at least one unique ability that sets us apart from others. We all have at least one thing we do so well we can refer to it as a “super power.”

Superman, Spiderman, Wonder Woman and other fictional super heroes fascinate us, perhaps because we subconsciously know that we are super, too. We can’t become invisible or walk through walls, but we each have special abilities.

Your skills and talents, that is, your super powers, are resources to help you through life, just like your education, your wealth and your health.

The problem is, people don’t always recognize the value of their talents, or understand that their abilities are special.

What do you do best? What do you do better than many people you know? What do you know, do or understand in a way that is uniquely yours?

These are your super powers!

Claim Your Power!

Sometimes it’s difficult to acknowledge your talent, even when you know what it is. Here are two tarot cards that can help you feel more comfortable claiming your super powers.

When these cards come up in readings, know that the Universe is reminding you to own your talents.

You can use these card images to manifest a greater understanding of your abilities. You can use these images to give you confidence and help you access your inner strength. To do this, simply meditate with these images, and call these images to mind when you need confidence and empowerment.

The Magician

The Magician reminds you to discover your tools, skills and abilities, and to learn how to use them. The Magician teaches you that your power comes from an infinite Source.

The Sun

The Sun instructs you to allow yourself to shine as brightly as you can - even more brightly than the sun itself! The Sun reminds you to have no fear, and no worries. Simply be happy being who you are!

The Week in Review

Yesterday was the Autumnal Equinox, so it was time for the Mabon Tarot Blog Hop. This time our wrangler gave us an unusual topic. We were all to write about a time when our understanding of tarot took a quantum leap forward. Read mine, and follow the links to see what the other twenty-six tarot bloggers had to say on the same topic.

This week on our Tarot Topics Community Blog, Joanne Matthew wrote about Mabon, and her connection to the Nine of Pentacles.

Also on the Tarot Topics Community Blog, I gave written and video answers to more questions about tarot. This week our questions were about learning tarot.

On my Dark Forest Blog, I wrote about the ways in which spirituality has transformed my activism.

On my 78 Magickal Tools blog on PaganSquare, I posted a piece about using the Ace of Pentacles as a shield against fear.

From Around the Web

Jenna Matlin, my guest last Sunday on Christiana’s Psychic Café, has made a free PDF download available to you, in honor of the Autumnal Equinox. How is balance expressed in tarot? See what Jenna thinks!

From Mark Manson, here are “Seven Strange Questions that Help you Find your Life Purpose.”

From Kim Anami, a way to “Feng Shui your Relationships.”

Find Your Super Power with the Tarot Queens

It’s hard to recognize the things we are best at doing. Sometimes that’s because those things come so easily to us we don’t realize that we are doing something other people can’t do, or can’t do as well.

Sometimes our super powers aren’t evident because they are “behind-the-scenes” skills. Not every creative person can sing you a song or knit you a sweater.

The Four Elements can help you discover your super power. If you are wondering what skills you need to nurture at this time, take the four Queens from your tarot deck, and shuffle just these four cards. Draw one at random.

Let the element of the Queen you received guide you as you discover and develop your super power.

The Queen of Swords, or Air, will suggest your super powers are intellectual. You might be a writer, a speaker, a teacher or a researcher. You might also have a strong sense of ethics and fairness.

The Queen of Pentacles, or Earth, will suggest your super powers are practical and nurturing. You might be a great cook, builder, mechanic or gardener. You may be a wonderful parent. You might also have some skill for finance, real estate or money management.

The Queen of Wands, or Fire, will suggest your super powers are creative and spiritual. You may be an artist, a musician, an athlete, a psychic or a comedian.

The Queen of Cups, or Water, will suggest your super powers are heart-centered. You may be extremely compassionate or empathic. You may be able to recognize suffering and bring comfort.

What does your Queen say about you, and about your Super Powers?

Learning Tarot: Two of Swords

In tarot, the number Two is often about balance. Of course, we know the suit of Swords, related to the element of Air, is about thoughts and ideas.

In the Waite-Smith Two of Swords, we see a person who is blindfolded, crossing off her heart and balancing one sword on each shoulder.  We might see each sword as representing a thought or idea. She balances between the two, perhaps getting ready to choose one over the other.

In his Thoth Tarot, Crowley called this the card of “Peace.” Other key words for this card can include decision and indecision.

That the character is blindfolded might suggest that answers can only come from within.

That the character has crossed off her heart might remind us to focus on the Air element of Swords. That is, to use logic and reason in decision-making, rather than the emotion of the heart.

Crowley’s key word of “peace” gives us another idea for this card. Sometimes we have to be a peace with not knowing. Sometimes it takes time to make a decision, and we have to live for a while not knowing what will come next, or what we will choose.

The Two of Swords may indicate a need simply to be at peace with the decision-making process.

Next week, we will see the painful results of difficult decisions when we encounter the Three of Swords.

Your One-Card Weekly Reading

Your one-card reading this week is the Two of Pentacles.

You may feel stretched a little thin this week in terms of your resources; time, money, energy or patience. You may find yourself in the position of needing to multi-task. You may need to do a little creative management to make sure your responsibilities are fulfilled.

There are some important things you need to know this week. First, you can do it! Whatever tasks you are required to manage, you are more than capable.

Second, you can do this for as long as you need to, and it won’t become unmanageable. Having to juggle this much may not be fun, but you can manage it.

Finally, your diligence, energy, creativity and positive attitude will eventually pay off!

The Four Elements and the Major Arcana

The four elements of life are Earth, Air, Fire and Water. They each have metaphysical properties as well as physical properties.

The four elements correlate with the four suits of the Minor Arcana of the tarot. They also correlate with individual cards of the Major Arcana.

The term “Major Arcana” means “Greater Secrets.” The twenty-two cards of the Major Arcana contain the most spiritual messages and lessons of the tarot, and tell the story of our journey through life.

When we learn the elemental associations for each of the Major Arcana cards, we have a clear way to understand these important cards.

This 75 minute webinar will help the tarot student more fully understand the four elements. It will provide a deeper way to comprehend each of the Major Arcana cards. The student will be able to more fully interpret the Major Arcana cards, whether reading for yourself or others.

To log-in, visit the Event Listing on the Continuing Education website.
