What It Is to Know Your Worth
How we treat ourselves often determines how others treat us, and how we treat others.
When we speak about the worth of a person, we are often speaking of their financial wealth. When we speak of the value of a person, we are often speaking about what services that person can perform for us.
When we think about our own worth, we often judge ourselves by those standards. How much money are we making? What kind of car do we drive? What skills do we bring to the table?
There is nothing wrong with being financially secure. There is everything right with developing and using our skills to serve others.
Yet, there is something very, very wrong with thinking that the value of a person is limited to what they own and what they do.
We need to value ourselves for who we are. We need our self-love to be based on what is in our hearts, our minds, and our souls.
What we have and what we do can easily change over the course of a lifetime. Who we are is eternal.
When we truly know our worth, we treat ourselves with respect, and expect others to do the same. When we truly know our worth, we have the courage to be who we are without apology.
When we truly value who we are, we more easily value those around us.
The StaarCorner
StaarCon officially begins Friday, January 21, 2022, at 7:30 pm. However, we are also offering a preconference intensive during the day on Friday. The preconference intensive will run from 9:30 am to 6:00 pm.
The preconference intensive is a full day with me, Christiana Gaudet. You can attend in person or online. The title of the preconference intensive for 2022 is “Finding the Magic of Tarot”. In five hour-long sessions, we will work with the many ways tarot brings magic into our lives.
Wherever you are in your tarot journey, this intensive will deepen your skills as a reader.
You may purchase a ticket for the preconference only, or you may get a package that includes the preconference and the full conference. You can even attend the preconference and a single day of the weekend conference if that fits your schedule better.
Whether you attend in person or online, and whichever ticket package works best for you, I am looking forward to seeing you at StaarCon.
See Me in the Tampa Bay Area in August
I will be back in the Tampa Bay Area August 26 through August 30.
On Sunday, August 29, from 3 pm to 5 pm we will have a free tarot meetup at Panera Bread in Lutz, Florida.
During my time in the Tampa Bay Area, I am available for private readings at my AirBnB in Wesley Chapel. I am also able to make house calls for private readings. I am happy to come to your home or office for a psychic house party.
For more information, or to make your appointment, call or text 561-655-1160.
Tarot Questions for Understanding Self-Worth
We can use tarot to help us understand our self-worth. Sometimes, tarot is like a good friend with whom we can have helpful conversations.
A great technique is to ask a question, and pull a single card, or a few cards, in answer. Sometimes that answer naturally leads to another question.
I like to put the cards I pulled back into the deck and shuffle the full deck for each question. This allows an important card to make itself known by appearing multiple times in your divination session.
What are good questions in a conversation with tarot about your self-worth?
Try asking questions such as the following.
What is something special about my character?
What is a the nature of my essential energy?
What helps me feel grounded?
How can I treat myself in a way that shows I understand my value?
Who am I at my core?
Coming This Month: Hybrid Tarot Classes
Over the past year we have enjoyed meeting together on Zoom for tarot classes. Prior to that, classes were only available to those who could come to the Palm City office.
This month we will re-open the conference room in Palm City to in-person students. Yet, we want to continue to serve our students from around the globe on Zoom.
On August 19, from 7 to 9 pm, we will hold our first hybrid tarot class. You may buy a ticket to attend in person in Palm City, or online on Zoom. All attendees, whether in person or online, will have free access to the video replay of the class.
Our class for August is “Tarot Keywords and Interpretations”. Whether you are a curious beginner or an experienced reader, this class will help you take a next step toward tarot understanding.
In a tarot reading, each of the seventy-eight cards can offer any number of meanings. How can a tarot reader know what each card is saying? Christiana will help you explore ways to learn and remember each card. You will learn to translate that understanding into meaningful and insightful tarot readings.
Tickets to attend online and in person are available now!

Cards for Your Consideration
One card I often think about regarding self-worth is the Nine of Pentacles.
This is a card whose meaning and understanding has changed a great deal over time.
The Nine of Pentacles is a card of family wealth, much like the card that follow it, the Ten of Pentacles.
The woman pictured in the Nine of Pentacles is safe and alone in her garden, under the protection of her father.
This card can speak of wealth, and the security that comes from wealth.
In recent years, our understanding of the Nine of Pentacles has grown. We now often see this card to speak of security in a different way. We see the Nine of Pentacles as a reference to being comfortable in our own skin, and in our own company.
In the Nine of Pentacles, we see a sense of self-esteem, and self-worth. We see confidence, and personal security. We understand that financial security is important, and that safety is important. Yet, there is an internal quality of security that is not related to our net worth, but rather to our self-worth.

Mentors
When we share knowledge with each other, we grow as individuals, and as communities.
This past weekend I had the privilege to be one of five presenters at The Masters of the Tarot, the annual tarot conference at the Omega Institute, produced by Mary K. Greer and Rachel Pollack. This was my first visit to Omega. The Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, New York, deserves its stellar reputation.
Gathering with community in this beautiful place of nature and healing was especially sweet after more than a year of being away from in person events.
One of the things this event got me thinking about is the importance of mentors in our lives.
We typically define the word ‘mentor’ to mean a trusted teacher or advisor.
There are many kinds of mentors, in business, in creative pursuits, and in spiritual growth. Sponsors in twelve-step program are also mentors.
Chances are, you have had many mentors in your life. Perhaps you are a mentor to someone.
Sometimes our mentors disappoint us. When that happens, we need to decide if we are simply understanding their own human failings, or if they truly are not worthy of that mentorship position in our lives.
Every community functions best when it has positive mentors, and when those mentors lift others up, and give them the skills and confidence to become mentors themselves.
This weekend I was reminded just how lucky the tarot community is to have a longstanding tradition of wise and generous mentorship, and how lucky I am to be a part of that.
Mentoring happens in all communities. When you are ready to grow, find a mentor to help you do that. When you are ready to help others grow, find a way, either formally or informally, to share your knowledge, skills, and experience with others. It is through mentorship that traditions continue, and new ways forward are discovered.
The StaarCorner
Whether we are attending an elite conference like The Masters of the Tarot, or a larger event like StaarCon, one thing that makes a conference great is the quality of the teachers.
The Masters of the Tarot is produced by Mary K. Greer and Rachel Pollack. I am proud that Mary K. Greer was a headliner at StaarCon 2021, and that Rachel Pollack will be headlining at StaarCon 2022.
When I first started working with tarot, it was the books of Mary K. Greer and Rachel Pollack that inspired me. Now, years later, these luminaries still inspire me. They are both tarot mentors in the truest sense of the term.
I am delighted that both Mary and Rachel are part of our StaarCon family.

Let Tarot Be Your Mentor
We can look to the wisdom of the tarot cards and the archetypes within them to be spiritual mentors to us.
In the workshop I taught at The Masters of Tarot, “How Tarot Helps Us Heal”, we did a meditative exercise which allowed us to receive deep wisdom from the characters in the cards.
Here is how you can do this.
Choose a tarot card, either at random or by deciding which card you wish to use. Within that card image, find a character from whom you wish to learn. It might be the central character of the card. It might be an animal or a plant that draws your attention and curiosity.
Begin meditative breathing as you look at the card with a soft gaze. In your mind’s eye, enter the scene in the card and begin a conversation with that character. Allow them to speak with you. Ask them questions. You will be surprised as the wisdom you receive from a single tarot card in this meditative exercise.

From the Kiwanis Club newsletter, here are six ways to be a great mentor.
Cards for Your Consideration
There are many ways that the tarot can speak about finding a mentor, or being a mentor. Both the Three and Eight of Pentacles can reference apprenticeship. The Kings and Queens can all be mentors, and the Pages and Knights can all be those in search of the right teacher.
There is one Major Arcana card that typically has the word ‘mentor’ as a keyword. That card is Major Arcana Five, the Hierophant.
The Hierophant describes precisely how beneficial a good mentor is, and how damaging a bad mentor can be. When the mentor is more about the doctrine, the rules, and the dogma, than they are about their love of the mission, the mentor stops being a mentor and starts being a roadblock. When the mentor is more about their own ego than they are about helping others get ahead, the mentor becomes an abuser.
Within the Hierophant is the potential for great authority, and for great abuse of authority. It is up to each mentor to understand their own motivations, and to use their authority wisely. It is up to each student to choose their mentors wisely. The Hierophant seeks to remind us of these timeless truths.

What We Create
What it means to create your life.
There are certain people we identify as creative. They are artists, musicians, dancers, writers, and designers. Then there are people who do not see themselves as creative at all, primarily because they cannot sing us a song or knit us a sweater.
I think it is important to distinguish between profound talent and natural creativity. Not everyone has significant creative talent. Yet, we are all creative, and we all create things.
All children are expected to draw, play music, sing, write, and dance. Within us all is an inner child who still enjoys doing those things.
Even beyond artistic creativity, we all have the ability to create. We create families, household, and businesses. We create vacation plans, ceremonies, and gatherings. Some people create chaos and conflict.
Many people believe that we are creating our lives every day, with our thoughts, words, and actions.
What happens when we align our thoughts, words, and actions with our goals? Does this help us create the lives we want to live?
I believe so, to a very great extent.
In elemental studies, we see the element of Fire as the energy primarily associated with creativity. Yet, Fire is also our life force energy. That is, the very essence of our existence. Fire is also our spiritual energy.
To me, this says something important. Creativity is essential to who we are and how we live. We are all creators, each in our own way.
What will you create today?
What life are you creating for yourself?

Tarot Creativity
There are so many ways to be creative with tarot. We can create new spreads. If we are artistic, we can create new decks.
There is a type of tarot creativity that can foster healing and growth.
Chose a card, either randomly or cognitively, which represents a difficult situation you are facing, or something you want to embrace in your life.
Now, find a way to make some work of art related to that card. You can make a collage, write a poem, make up a dance or a song, or draw a picture.
As you work to bring the energy of this card into a new way of being, you will experience healing.
I write tarot poetry. You can check out my 78 Poems Project on my website.
How will you let tarot inspire your creativity and bring you healing?

Cards for Your Consideration
It is interesting to consider just how many tarot cards can speak in a reading of creativity. Of course, the entire suit of Wands can reference creativity. In the Major Arcana, we see creativity prominently in the Magician, the Empress, and Temperance.
We see creative thought in the suit of Swords, especially in the Ace, the Page, and the Knight of Swords.
We see creativity in the other two suits as well. The Three of Cups can speak of creativity, especially in terms of collaboration, and of song and dance. The Three of Pentacles can reference creativity on a professional level.
Why do so many tarot cards reference creativity? Perhaps it is because creativity is such an important part of our human journey.

Holding Space for Truth
The search for truth is a lifelong journey.
We are on a constant search for truth, in big ways and in little ways.
The search for truth is part of the human journey. The problem is, we have a hard time understanding what truth is, and what it means.
We who are spiritual seekers are, first and foremost, truth seekers. The irony that is the tools that we use to find truth are also tools that some people use to defraud others, or to allow spiritual bypassing for themselves.
Even when we have access to potent knowledge and skill, we must be able to hold ourselves accountable if we truly wish to divine truth.
Whether we are seeking spiritual truth or mundane truth, we can only see the truths we allow ourselves to see.
One problem is that we often set up a condition where if one thing is true, another thing cannot be. This sort of thinking usually moves us further from the truth.
It is hard to understand that a person might love their job and hate their job at the same time. Or, that something could be both healing and damaging.
When we see that two seemingly opposite things can be true at the same time, we can learn to hold space for all possibilities. We can find our priorities. We can acknowledge all truths, but accentuate those that best support our well-being.
Sometimes it feels easier to accept a fantasy and deny the truth. It takes courage to see what we would prefer not to see. It takes patience to understand that more than one thing can be true at the same time.
There are aspects of spiritual truth that are a mystery, and must remain so. The mystery becomes the truth we must embrace.
The search for truth is not something that happens in a moment. We are always learning, and always growing in our ability to ask the right questions, and to understand the answers.

One of the missions of StaarCon is to introduce a wide range of tools and practices, and to shine a light on the creators of these tools.
We are excited that Joanna and Lainie will be presenting their Food Healing Deck at StaarCon 2022.

What Will Be True?
In tarot, and other divination methods, we often make future predictions. That is, we try to discover what will be true in the future.
Since possibilities for the future are always changing, predicting the future can be tricky. The future is not always set. We are able to see possibilities. We are able to gain insight and wisdom to help us strategize. We can get information that will help us set ourselves up for the best outcomes.
One of the best techniques we can use to help us predict the future with tarot is to find a certainty percentage. Here is what that means.
If we ask a question like, “Will I be married within five years?” and pull some cards, we might get cards that make us say a definite and enthusiastic yes. We also might get cards that feel more like a maybe.
We can take the level of certainty and enthusiasm we see in the cards and assign a percentage to it, to describe just how likely that particular outcome is.
If we decide that the outcome is unlikely, we can consult the cards to find strategies to make our desired outcome a reality. In that way, we are not only predicting the future, we are creating the future.

Cards for Your Consideration
Divinatory tarot is a tool for truth-seeking. We can also use tarot to help us discover and release our resistance to hard truths.
There are many cards whose interpretations speak specifically of honesty or dishonesty, and of the search for truth and understanding.
This week I would like to consider the High Priestess as such a card. When we look at the Waite-Smith image, we see that the High Priestess finds truth from many sources. She wears the symbols of many religions. She holds a sacred text. She is robed in the waters of the subconscious, which flow off the page to the right side.
She tells us that truth is found both within and without.
She sits between the pillars of mercy and severity. She finds truth in the balance of the two.
