Intuition Whispers

Something we often hear is that we all must trust our intuition. Maybe you have even heard this in reference to a tarot card pulled for you, such as the High Priestess.
Tarot readers and other spiritual people often tell us to tune in, listen to, and trust our intuition. Very few explain how exactly to do this. The results are sometimes disastrous.
For example, I knew a very successful day trader. He started dating someone who encouraged him to change his methods, which had worked for many years, and instead, ‘rely on his intuition’ to figure out how to be even more successful. This resulted in him losing his business completely and needing to fall back on a previous career. When they asked me what I thought had gone wrong, I said that his original formula worked well with his intuition. His success proved that. The problem came from trying to identify which part of the formula was the intuitive part. Sometimes, trying to bring the subconscious to the conscious can backfire wildly. How can we tell the difference between intuitive guidance and a wild guess?
I knew someone else whom another reader told to trust her intuition regarding a man she had been dating. When she came to me for a reading after the relationship fell apart, she announced her intuition was wrong. I am sure now, as I was then, that real intuition is never wrong. If you think your intuition is wrong, it was never your intuition you were hearing.
The dictionary defines ‘intuition’ as the ability to understand or know something without thinking about it.
I remember in the late 1970s when Fleetwood Mac’s Tusk album was released, Stevie Nicks had permed her hair and was wearing an updo. When asked how she did the updo, she said that she couldn’t explain it or do it if she thought about it; she had to do it without thinking to get it right. This has always stuck with me as a way of explaining the type of inner knowing that seems to go away when we overthink. To this day, I believe that overthinking is always the enemy of intuition.
Yet, if part of intuition is not thinking, are we advising people to make decisions and live their lives thoughtlessly?
I know I am using intuition well at the tarot table when I give detailed information that my client confirms, yet none of the cards pulled directly refer to that information. When that happens, I must admit that there is usually minimal thought process involved.
We all know people who have stories about just feeling something or just knowing something that turned out to be true. Yet, those same people might have other instances of feeling and knowing something that did not yield the same results.
The truth is, the voice of intuition is hard to identify and is often outshouted by the voices of fear and desire.
If we want to listen to intuition, we need to get good at releasing our emotional attachments and listening to our quietest internal voice. Over the years, I have learned that fear and desire shout, while intuition often whispers.
If you think your intuition is telling you something bad about what you fear, or something good about what you desire, you will have no way of knowing what is true. The more we can accept and embrace this truth, the more we can rely on our intuition.
Intuition is infallible. Yet, our access to it can be faulty. We need to learn to think without overthinking. And if we are to trust our intuition, first, we must be able to trust ourselves in general.
So many people have trouble trusting themselves and trusting their instincts. How can we hear and trust the whispers of intuition if we do not trust ourselves?

Intuitive Tarot
Every reader has their ways of bringing intuition to their tarot readings. Here are three that work well for me.
First, before a reading, I prepare by grounding my energy, connecting to spirit, and inviting spirit to assist with the reading.
Second, during a reading, I pay attention to whatever comes into my mind, whether or not it is specific to the cards or the question. For example, if I suddenly think about my grandmother, I might consider that my client’s grandmother in spirit is there with a message. If a memory of planting a garden comes to mind, I might ask if my client enjoys gardening.
Third, I am aware of many possible classic interpretations for each card. I let intuition lead me to the most appropriate interpretations.

Communities
A big problem with intuitive community leaders is that they can claim anything is true. How can we question someone’s intuition?
I have seen on many occasions people who, from my perspective, are using the idea that they are very intuitive and spiritually wise to scam people, or to lead people in ways that are not in anyone’s best interest.
It rarely does well to call out a community leader when they can claim they receive their knowledge from a higher source. Yet, it does us extremely well to use our intuition to know it is time to leave such a leader and community quickly.
