Everything is an Oracle
Concept illustration of a child and the universe.
Many of us practice actively listening to inner guidance. We may differ in the language we use to say who or what guides us. We may believe it is a higher power, an angel, an ancestor, or our own higher self. Whatever we call it and however we find it, we all seek guidance from a higher source.
We may practice meditation and divination to find that guidance. Daily, we are open to receiving signs, even when we have not explicitly requested them. It can be challenging to distinguish between a sign from the universe and a mundane occurrence, especially during stressful times.
Many of us also consult specific oracles. We use tarot cards, oracle cards, Kipper cards, Lenormand cards, runes, dice, mahjong, playing cards, bibliomancy, and other devices to gather information for guidance.
The vast number of divinatory tools available offers us many options to receive images, numbers, letters, and concepts. When we are out and about, conducting our daily lives, we sometimes hear or see things that feel prophetic or oracular. Whether our important symbols or concepts are from tools or the world in general, our quandaries are the same. How should we interpret this, and how seriously should we take it?
Interpretation is the first and most important aspect of oracular work. The keywords, classic interpretations, and descriptions in the books are not the answer; they are the way to get the answer. We must interpret what we encounter, using both logic and intuition. We must interpret without the influence of fear or desire. How seriously we should take a message we receive depends entirely on the message itself.
As we move through our daily lives, the universe speaks to us. It is up to us to interpret wisely and decide how much faith to put in the message we receive. Far too often, people receive a message but fail to take the time to interpret and apply it to their lives. Without interpretation and action, we may be putting our faith in unhelpful guidance.
Spiritual wisdom is always available to us. Yet, it is of little value unless we are willing to supply some of our own wisdom in determining how we will understand and use the message.

The Systems of Tarot
Since everything is an oracle, and there are many sorts of divination tools available, why am I such a proponent of tarot specifically?
I love tarot for what separates it from every other tool of divination – its systems.
In tarot, each card has a specific place in the deck. While the cards, when shuffled and laid out, tell a story, there are also stories inherent in each suit and section of the deck.
Tarot is infused with numerology and astrology. Each card is associated with a specific number and element. There are astrological associations as well as Kabalistic ones.
The systems of tarot make it a rich divination experience. The systems of tarot create lessons for us as we study the cards. The systems of tarot make learning tarot initially easy and offer ongoing enrichment as we deepen our studies over time.
The systems of tarot, specifically numerology, astrology, and Kabbalah, make tarot the unique tool it is.

Communities
Community has always grown up around spirituality. We have churches, temples, mosques, and ashrams. We also have spiritual communities that do not own land or a building. We meet in people’s kitchens and living rooms, in community center clubhouses and local restaurants. We gather at conferences and retreats. We collaborate online.
Recently, I discussed with someone whether a spiritual community that did not have its own building in which to meet was as valid as a church. She felt that the spiritual value of a tarot meetup in a coffee shop was not on par with more traditional spiritual community gatherings. Of course, I had a very different opinion.
There is something significant that causes us to want to share spiritual experiences and knowledge in fellowship. Immediately, I think of a verse from the Holy Bible, Matthew 18:20, which says, "For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them". This concept should not be limited to those who gather in the name of a specific deity or practice. Instead, it is universal.
We are spiritually compelled to gather together for spiritual work. Yet, so many unhealthy and problematic things can happen in spiritual communities. We must find communities that feel supportive and be willing to leave as soon as they feel like a bad fit or an unhealthy environment.
