What are Your Intuitive Tools?

Learn to use the tools and techniques that awaken your intuition and connect you to Spirit.

We all have ways of making decisions and seeking inner guidance. Even when we consult others for guidance and insight, we still, ultimately, must make our own choices and trust our own judgement.

That’s probably why intuitive tools, such as tarot, runes, oracle cards and pendulums are so popular, and why many people find practices like mindfulness, yoga and meditation so helpful.

When we are able to listen to the inner voice of our intuition, we may feel guided by Spirit, or by our own higher self. We may feel the presence of spiritual guardians and ancestors.

Every one of us is capable of tapping into intuition, that source of spiritual power and guidance. We all have natural tools that help us do this. Some of us are good at paying attention to omens, signs and synchronicities. Some of us are good at being in the right place at the right time. Others have good instincts for reading people or predicting events.

Whatever natural intuitive tools we possess, we are often able to enhance and develop them with the use of divination. Divination often uses tools like cards, stones and symbols to help us make sense of our world.

Systems like astrology and numerology are tools, too. So are our sacred texts.

Other intuitive tools are the crystals and stones that enhance psychic awareness, such as quartz, labradorite, and amethyst, and aromatic herbs such as sandalwood and patchouli.

Each of us is unique. No two of us will have exactly the same intuitive process. The more tools we explore, the more likely we each will be to unlock our own intuitive abilities.

Three Ways to Work with Intuitive Tools

Many of us own various tarot decks, oracle cards and pendulums. Some of us are astrologers or numerologists. Some are scholars of sacred texts.

With so many amazing options, it’s sometimes hard to know with which tools we should invest our time, money and energy.

Sometimes we feel drawn to a particular deck of cards or body of knowledge, but, once we begin our study, we find no real resonance in the practice. It can be discouraging when this happens, but the important thing to do is to keep seeking.

Here are three things you can do to develop your intuition with tools.

Find Your Favorite Tool

While there are many from which to choose, it’s important to have a favorite modality at which you are skilled, even if you are well-versed in many. It may be a particular system that draws you, like Lenormand or astrology, or it may be a very specific tarot deck that you feel works best for you.

Once you know what your favorite, most comfortable tool is, you can use that tool to vet other tools. You can ask your tarot deck, “What would be the results of my beginning to study astrology?” Or “How can I best dedicate myself to the art of tea-leaf reading?” Let your favorite tool help you find the secondary tools that will help expand your intuitive practice.

Combine and Integrate Tools

Have you ever tried a tarot reading with two decks, or used an oracle card to give final thoughts to a numerology reading? You can use a lot of creativity in considering ways to integrate the use of your tools.

I like to use a pendulum with a tarot spread. I hold the pendulum over each card to gauge its reaction. The strength of the pendulum’s swing tells me how much weight to give the individual card in the reading.

I have found, from experience, a few different tarot decks that are particularly suited to specific sorts of questions. If those questions come up in a reading, I like to break away from the deck I’ve been using and turn to the specific deck appropriate for the question.

Take a Class

There are tutorials on YouTube, local classes and meetups, webinars and online study groups. You can learn to use any sort of metaphysical tool, or perform any sort of divination. You can study a sacred text, and find personal insight from the powerful words you read.

If you devote yourself to study, you will receive some powerful benefits, even beyond the awakening of your intuition.

From My Desk to Yours

I’m afraid that this American election season has me saying “enough is enough” even before the end of the primaries. You can read my plea for national unity on my Dark Forest blog.

Over at Tarot Taxi you can find Lenormand Cheat-Sheet Keywords. She’s got the first ten up so far, and they are fabulous!

Song of the Week

Here is Fleetwood Mac with “Crystal”. I loved this song when it came out in 1975, when Stevie Nicks redid it for the movie, “Practical Magic” in 1998, and I love it now.

Numerology with Zuri

I’ve asked Zuri of AskZuri.com to share some wisdom with us. For the next nine weeks, this column will be Zuri’s space.

 Number One

Hello Bright Sparks!

We begin our adventure of understanding the vibe of the numbers that make up our world with the number 1.

The number 1 acts as a seed, the starting point where magic takes shape. When you think of being #1, think of the self-starters of the world: the pioneers, the go-getters, the strong Aries types who don’t wait for an opening to take action; they boldly make it happen!

When we are in a 1 cycle, we are in our place of manifestation, and it's no coincidence why the Magician of the Tarot was assigned the number 1. The Magician is the cosmic mover and shaker. He has all the tools and resources he needs to launch his next great venture and strike while the iron’s hot!

And when you see a predominance of 1’s in a Tarot spread, such as the power combo of the Ace of Wands with the Ace of Pentacles, you know it’s time to get the ball rolling and transform that great idea into a money making opportunity. It reminds you to open your mind and your heart to fresh perspectives and new ways of doing things to create profound change in your physical reality.

Are you seeing a pattern of 1’s in your dreams, alarm clock or in the world around you? It’s just your A-team of Guides interrupting your regularly scheduled programming with an important message. So pay attention to the thought forms that are being planted in the soils of your subconscious mind. Are they in alignment with your future goals? Or are you sabotaging your growth with the negative loop your mental goblins have playing on your internal Spotify?

The 1 is asking you to get your mind right so you can channel your inner Magician and take a big leap into something new and exciting. If you’ve been dealing with drama or push back from the people in your life, this may be yourgreen light to be more independent, stand on your own two feet and get back in the driver’s seat to create changes.

This week’s numeric takeaway: Honor the ways you bring you own magical awesomery to your orbit and lead by example.

Shine on!

Gifts

So many cultures’ winter holidays include a tradition of gift giving. For many people, the giving and receiving of presents becomes the singular focus of the season, and a source of stress. I think we can keep the holidays holy and still enjoy the tradition of giving gifts, as long as we give from our hearts and within our means.

Sometimes the gifts we give aren’t things that come from stores. Sometimes we can use our own gifts and talents to create something meaningful for the people we love.

Sometimes, the greatest gift we can give to someone is our time. Sometimes, our presence in someone’s life is the best present we could give.

Five Cards We See During the Holidays

Many people have similar experiences and expectations of the holidays, and not all of them are pleasant. When we perform readings for others or ourselves during the holiday season, we may see some holiday themes reflected in the cards. Here are five tarot cards that can have particular meaning during the holiday season.

Six of Cups: This card can speak of reunions, old friends, nostalgia and a return to one’s childhood home. This can be a very pleasant card, but can also indicate an unhealthy longing for the holiday times of the past, or a disappointment that traditions and families have changed so much. This can also indicate the revisiting of painful family dynamics.

Three of Cups: We often call this “The Party Card,” and there are plenty of parties to attend this time of year. This card can predict fun times and social interaction, but it can warn against over-indulgence.

Hierophant: This card can speak to the religious traditions of the season, as well as family expectations and family traditions. Often families have difficulty during the holiday season because of different family members’ expectations regarding the keeping of traditions.

Ten of Pentacles: This is another card of family tradition, and suggests the opportunity for generations to gather. This card can speak of enjoying ones’ home. During the holidays, this card might refer to entertaining in ones’ home or the joys and woes of decorating ones’ home.

Six of Pentacles: Anytime you see this card, it can refer to charity. At this time of year, our thoughts often turn to helping those less fortunate. This card can also refer to the process of gift shopping or exchanging gifts. It can also talk about the anxiety inherent in gift giving.

When you see these cards appear in your readings over the course of the season, be aware of the possibility that they may be referring to the holiday season.

The Week in Review

This week on my Dark Forest Blog I wrote about my new favorite sport; riding my tricycle!

On my Tarot Topics Community Blog I wrote about a surprising aspect of my career. I am often asked to speak about tarot in unlikely places. I’ve learned to cultivate this, and for a good reason. Read “Be an Ambassador for Tarot.”

On my personal blog, Tarot Trends, I wrote about the second meeting of the Tampa Bay Area Tarot Meetup, and something important I learned there.

From Around the Web

I really enjoyed this post from Jenna Matlin at Queen of Wands Tarot. She explains her unique process of working with a Celtic Cross Spread. I think you will find this fascinating.

Do you think tarot and yoga go together? Here is someone who is working on a yoga sequence inspired by the Major Arcana! See what you think about “Taroyoga.”

From Lisa Boswell, here are her ideas of ways to use tarot to answer “yes or no” questions.

Creative Tarot Gift Giving Exercise

Every holiday season I share some ideas about how we can use tarot to help in our holiday gift giving. Of course, you can simply think of a person you need a gift for and pull a card or two. Interpret the cards in a way that points you to a unique, thoughtful and appropriate gift. This is a simple and practical way to utilize tarot during the holidays.

Here is another, more complex tarot gift-giving exercise.

We all have our own special gifts and talents. It is nice when the gift we give someone comes from our own hand and heart; something we can make or a service we can provide.

If you would like some great ideas for gifts that you could make or do yourself, simply think of an intended recipient. Then, ask this question. “What gift or talent do I have that I could share with this person?” Pull a card, or a few cards, at random. Let the cards inspire you to create the perfect gifts!

Learning Tarot: Queen of Swords

The Queen of Swords has a bit of a bad reputation. Older tarot books will tell you “don’t trust this woman.” In traditional tarot, the Queen of Swords often represented a childless woman, an unmarried woman, a widow, or a bitter, sharp-tongued woman.

This is an example of the misogynistic roots of tarot. The Queen of Swords is the Queen of Air. Air is the element of intelligence, truth and communication. Today we understand the Queen of Swords as a woman who speaks the truth.  A few hundred years ago, people did not always appreciate an intelligent woman offering her opinion!

The Queen of Swords in a reading may refer to a woman who has borne some pain, or a woman who is not afraid to speak an unpleasant truth or to do the right thing in a difficult situation.

The Queen of Swords may appear in a reading to remind you to speak your truth, to follow your conscience or to make a rational choice.

The Queen of Swords may also refer to a woman born under an Air sun sign, that is, Gemini, Libra, or Aquarius.

Next week we will meet the final character in the Swords Court, the King of Swords.

Courage

In the United States, Memorial Day Weekend marks the unofficial beginning of summer. It is also the time when we honor those people who have given their lives in service to our country. We appreciate their courage, and use that courage as an example and inspiration.

Thankfully, very few of us will have to fight in an actual war. Nonetheless, we all need courage.  At one point or another, we all have battles to fight.

Many times our struggles are internal. The people around us may never know the courage we muster every day.

Sometimes are struggles are health-related. Sometimes we are healing from loss. Sometimes we simply need to find the courage to pursue our dreams.

Whatever our challenges, we are constantly inspired by the courage of those around us.

Perhaps the important thing to remember is this. Courage is not a lack of fear. Courage is the willingness to proceed nonetheless.

Finding Courage with the Cards

So many tarot cards speak to us of courage. Whenever we are unsure, afraid or anxious, we can go to the cards to find solace, comfort and encouragement.

It is important to ask the right questions, especially when we are in need of courage.

Sometimes we base our questions on anxiety rather than faith. When that happens, we are unable to gain perspective and insight from the cards.

Here are some good questions to help you find your courage in the cards.

What do I need to do to face my fears?

How have my fears served me?

Why do I fear this?

What motivates me to overcome my fear?

What makes me feel more empowered?

From what can I draw strength?

The Week in Review

This week I am thrilled that Robin Renee shared a great post on our Tarot Topics Community Blog. Read “Audacious Eleven Talks Tarot.” Robin is a frequent contributor to the Psychic Café, and a well-known musician and spiritual leader.

My contribution to the community blog this week is “Five Ways to Interpret a Reversed Tarot Card.”

On my personal blog, Tarot Trends, I wrote about two Minor Arcana cards that portray women alone, and how our understanding of these cards has changed as the role of women in society has changed. Read “Tarot and the Woman Alone.”

On my Dark Forest blog this week I wrote about some ideas for conscious evolution. Read “The Blame Game.”

The Fool's Journey: An Epic Tale of Courage

Tarot is a story told in pictures. The story is the epic hero’s adventure. Tarot tells the archetypal tale of each one of us on our journey through life.

The hero of our story is card 0, the Fool.

As we trace the Fool’s journey through the Major Arcana and through the four suits of the Minor Arcana, we see many examples of courage in his story.

As an exercise, look through your tarot cards in order. What stories of courage do you see there?

Think about them, meditate on them, and write about them.

Now think about your own life. How do your own stories relate to the stories of courage you see in the cards?

What’s Up at the Psychic Café?

May 25th is designated as World Tarot Day. At Christiana’s Psychic Café I celebrated the occasion with a conversation with Olivia Destrades of First Earth Tarot. We talked about tarot and Lenormand. I particularly enjoyed our frank conversation about fortune-telling.

You can watch the show in archive on my Tarot Topics community news site.

On June 1st we will be talking about building tarot communities. I will be joined by Mary Ellen Collins and Diane Wilkes to discuss tarot gatherings large and small.

Mary Ellen Collins is a Readers Studio attendee, and has been a member of local tarot organizations in South Florida.

Diane Wilkes has been attending national and international tarot events since the very beginning, and is the organizer of the Northeastern Tarot Conclave.

Both Mary Ellen and Diane are also very active in online tarot communities. We’ll discuss the importance of in-person gatherings, and share our vision for the future of our worldwide tarot community.

Learning Tarot: Queen of Wands

In the Court of the Minor Arcana, Queens can represent adult women. Queens can also represent people of any gender who are nurturers.

The Queens can come up in a reading to remind us to nurture ourselves and our interests.

The Queen of Wands is the Queen of Fire. She asks you to tend your fires and to nurture your passions.

In a reading, the Queen of Wands can represent a woman who is creative, energetic, warm, friendly, sensual, funny and passionate.

The Queen of Wands might be you, or someone you know.

The Queen of Wands can encourage you to nurture your inner flame.

The Queen of Wands reminds you to have a sense of humor. At the same time, the Queen of Wands invokes a sense of spirituality, and encourages your spiritual discovery.

The Queen of Wands tells you not to be shy. The Queen of Wands teaches you to live out loud.

Next week we will complete the suit of Wands when we meet the King!

Tarot by Christiana Newsletter                                                                      12/19/2012

Welcome the Light!

While December 21 will not be the end of the world, many people believe the end of the Mayan calendar represents a spiritual shift for the planet. Perhaps we are evolving and, as some people say, raising our planetary vibration. We need it now more than ever.

Traditionally the Winter Solstice is celebrated as the return of the sun. We celebrate Christmas at this time of the year to coincide with the Winter Solstice. Symbolically, all the winter holidays seem to share a common theme: bringing light to the world.

There are many ways in which we all need light in our lives right now.  However you celebrate this sacred time of year, my family and I wish you abundant light, healing and happiness, now and in the year to come.

Introducing "Christiana's Psychic Café" on PEN

Last week I was a guest on an internet TV show. This week I will be launching my own internet TV show. It's funny how things like that happen.

I certainly have some broadcast experience. I have been the Resident Psychic of many broadcast radio shows. I was even a morning show co-host on three different FM stations.

I've done reading on network television and been featured on Fox News and Inside Edition.

I've been on other internet TV and radio shows, too.

This is the first time that I have ever had my own show.

The network that is featuring me is PEN, the Paraencounters NetworkWatching the shows there is as easy as browsing to the website.  You can even participate in the chat room! Try that with your broadcast TV!

My show, "Christiana's Psychic Café," will be a lively show with a variety of segments.  I will have short guest segments, and segments like "Tarot Talk," "Meditation Moment" and "Magick and Mayhem."

I will invite viewers to chat in, call in and Skype in to participate in our discussions. I will also be doing a few psychic readings for viewers each week.

The hour-long show will air live every Sunday at 9 pm EST.  It will be available worldwide at that time, and then will be archived and available on YouTube.

This Sunday, December 23 will be our first show. We will have a musical guest, Robin Renee, who will play her "Yule Song," a parody of Adam Sandler's "Hanukah Song."

We'll talk about holiday traditions, and about the world that didn't end. In our Tarot Talk segment we'll talk about wonderful tarot decks that contain a single irritating card. And of course I'll be taking your calls and reading for you!

Please don't miss the debut of this show, and please do call in to join the discussion!

There will always be a seat for you at Christiana's Psychic Café!

December Global Tarot Circle Recap

Global Tarot Circle met on Thursday, December 13, 2012. We started with a group reading for one of our members.

Our "learning segment" was a short workshop on the numbers of tarot, especially the pips. Each member found a series of three consecutive cards in the Minor Arcana and told the story they saw within those three cards. We discussed keywords for each number, and discussed how the Minor Arcana cards fit those keywords.

Next we looked at ways the tarot could help us choose gifts for those hard-to-shop-for people. We worked together with the tarot to help members of the group decide on the perfect gifts. It is amazing how often a tarot card can inspire something that evokes a statement like "Hey, that's a really good idea!"

Our final exercise was a gift-giving ritual. We each cognitively chose cards to symbolically give to individual members. These cards both expressed our wishes for each person, but also carried the energy to manifest those wishes and turn them into reality.

Traditionally Tarot Circle has always done something fun to commemorate the holidays. This on-line version of Tarot Circle was just as fun and meaningful as an in-person celebration, minus the amazing baked goodies.

Our next Global Tarot Circle we be Thursday, January 17, 2013 at 7:00 pm EST.   Everyone with an interest in tarot is welcome to join!
