Boundaries and Boundless

This edition of Tarot Topics features a full list of October events!

lead-hd.jpg

The poet Robert Frost said it best when he said, "Good Fences Make Good Neighbors". We all need to have good boundaries with the people around us; our friends, our families, our co-workers and our most intimate partners.

We also need to have boundaries with ourselves. My daughter calls this "making good life choices". It's when we choose the fruit over the cake, or the early worknight bedtime over the nightclub.

Sometimes, though, we create unnecessary boundaries that become self-imposed limitations. We chose to stay in our comfortable routine rather than pushing ourselves to something new, exciting and expansive.

Knowing what should be a boundary and what should be boundless is not always an easy trick. We need to be able to see the difference between damaging limits set by societal norms, low-self-esteem and fear, and healthy limits that protect us.

One way to do this is with tarot. There are tarot cards that can easily speak of boundaries, such as the Four of Pentacles, the Seven of Wands and the Nine of Wands. While "boundaries" is not a typical keyword for any of these three cards, each can clearly speak of the need for self-protection and establishing good boundaries.

On the other hand, there are many tarot cards that can speak of limitless possibilities, including the Star, the Sun, the Wheel of Fortune and the Seven of Cups. It's interesting to note that many of those cards of expansive thinking belong to the Major Arcana, the Greater Secrets of the tarot deck

When we learn to protect ourselves and still push past our limits in healthy ways, we open up the path to our greatest potential for success.

Tarot Topics 3/11/2015: Innovation

This week at Tarot Topics, it’s time to think outside the box! Our focus is on “Innovation.” Use meditation and tarot to bring new energy into your life.

Innovation

It’s easy to get stuck in a habit, or a particular way of doing things. Sometimes, the way we’ve always done it isn’t the best, or the easiest, way to get something done.

There are times we need to think outside the box and try something new. We are often told not to “reinvent the wheel,” and there’s wisdom in that. Once in a while, though, it is time to build something new or try something different.

Where do you need a little innovation in your life?

Meditate to Innovate!

It happens to all of us. Sometimes we feel uninspired and unmotivated. Even the most creative people seem to lose their ability to have original ideas from time to time.

You always have unlimited ability to create something wonderful. Sometimes, it’s hard to access that potential.

Meditation is a simple and easy way to access your creativity, and to allow your energy to flow. Spend just ten minutes alone with yourself, quietly, each day. You will be surprised how those ten minutes improve the rest of your day!

The Week in Review

This week, I was honored to be a guest blogger on the U.S. Games Systems, Inc. Tarot Blog. Read my story about Golden Tarot, and the poignant way it made the connection between life and the afterlife.

On my personal blog, I wrote about psychic predictions, and a phenomenon I have observed.

On the Community Blog, I posted another video from my YouTube channel in the “Answers to Your Questions about Tarot” series. This time, the question is about Major Arcana 9, the Hermit.

From Around the Web

An amazing thing is happening in the online tarot community. Artists from all over the world are coming together to create a tarot deck with a poignant theme. Read about it on Olivia Destrades’ First Earth Tarot Blog, and see her contribution to the deck.

Majorie Jensen shared a wonderful post on Spiral Nature. Read “Epistolary tarot: Love, letting go, and learning”.

There’s another great new video on “A Metaphysician’s Journal” on YouTube. This time it’s about learning to read Lenormand oracle cards.

Innovation with the Aces

Are you ready for something new in your life? Look to tarot and the Four Elements to help you manifest it!

From your tarot deck, remove the Four Aces. Look at each one, and think about the Element it represents.

Each Ace brings its Element to your life, bringing with it new opportunity and energy. Which Ace, or which Element, is ready to jump into your life now?

Shuffle the four Aces and pull one at random to tell you.

Think about how your Ace’s Element will manifest in your life, and what you can do to welcome its energy.

What’s up on the Psychic Café?

This week I am featuring our Saint Patrick’s Day episode from March 17, 2013. You’ll enjoy perspectives on Saint Patrick’s Day from Gary Karp, Robin Renee, Helene Martz,  Ambika Devi, String Band and more! You can watch the episode on my YouTube Channel at your convenience.

Don’t forget to stop by our Facebook Page and hit the Like button!

Learning Tarot: Ten of Pentacles

The Ten of Pentacles is traditionally called the “Castle Card.” This card can refer to real estate, or a family home.

In the Ten of Pentacles, we see the promise of the Ace of Pentacles, now fulfilled. Metaphorically, the Ace of Pentacles is a seed filled with potential, the Ten is the fruit-laden tree which sprung from that seed.

This card speaks of your family tree, your lineage. It may reference traits that are inherited.

The Ten of Pentacles reminds us of family history. This is the card of ancestry and legacy.

The Ten of Pentacles can predict happiness and wealth in a love relationship.

This card may suggest a multi-generational home.

The Ten of Pentacles may describe the sale or purchase of a home.

As the last pip card in the suit of Pentacles, the Ten suggests the ultimate security and prosperity.

Next week, we will meet the Page of Pentacles as we begin our journey through the earthy court of the suit of Pentacles.

Your One-Card Weekly Reading

Your One-Card Reading this week is the Five of Swords.

This week, there may be a battle coming your way. Pay attention, and don’t get drawn into a fight that isn’t yours.

If it is time to take a stand, be firm.

Some battles can’t be avoided. If this is so, make sure you are in it to win it.  It is likely this will not end in a draw, but in a victory, or a defeat. Choose your position carefully.

If the battle is already over, it is time to move on. Do not dwell on past losses on victories, but only on the lessons learned from the battle.

Tarot Topics 3/4/2015: The Heart Chakra

This week’s Tarot Topics explores the Heart Chakra! Make a heart-to-heart connection, heal the heart with tarot, win a new Lenormand deck and see a brand new episode of Christiana’s Psychic Café!

The Heart Chakra

The heart chakra, or fourth chakra, located in the center of the chest, is our love center. Here is the seat of our vulnerability, our compassion, and our connection to all living things.

We focus on the heart chakra to bring emotional healing and to draw the right relationships to us.

Since the color of the heart chakra is green, green stones such as jade, aventurine, peridot and emerald are considered healing for the heart.

When we pay attention to the heart chakra in meditation, we release our emotional wounds from the past, and open ourselves to fully give and receive unconditional love.

Making the Heart-to-Heart Connection

As we work to develop our intuition, to divine wisdom and to heal each other, we find value in actively making a heart-to-heart connection with others.

When we are with our friends and loved ones, we naturally connect our energy, one with another.

When giving a tarot reading, or other sorts of psychic or healing work, we can actively connect our heart chakra to the heart chakra of the person we are working with.

The heart-to-heart connection allows us to understand each other, and heal each other.  Wisdom, guidance and healing are more easily and quickly available to us when we use our energy to connect in this way.

When the session is done, or the reading is over, it is important to consciously release the connection. It is also important to affirm that we will retain no energy from that connection, except the increased peace and compassion that comes from sharing our healing energy.

The Week in Review

Our March Guest Bloggers Contest is off and running, with two entries on our Community Blog. Read them both, share them, and vote for the ones you like. The winner of the March contest will receive a copy of the new Celtic Lenormand.

From Jules, a wonderful poem about fortune telling called “Fortune Finder.”

From Linda Moore, February’s winner, a piece about the Six of Pentacles called “Open your Soul to Receive Life’s Gifts”.

On my personal blog, I shared a piece about online etiquette. When is it cool to call someone out, by name, online? See what I think!

On my 78 Magickal Tools Blog, I shared a piece about some work we did recently in a tarot class. How do you find Love in the Major Arcana?

From Around the Web

From the Hermit’s Lamp, a great post about using tarot with children.

Here is some detailed astrology information about March 2015 for you!

Did you know that DC Comics has a new set of tarot cards? Read about it here!

Taking Tarot to Heart

Here’s an exercise you can do with your tarot cards to bring the energy you need to your heart chakra.

First, perform a reading about your heart chakra.

Simply focus on your heart chakra, and pull one card at random to tell you about the energy of your heart chakra.

Look at the card you pulled and decide how to interpret it in this context. Is your heart open? Is your heart happy, sad, blocked, or vulnerable? How does the card you pulled relate to the state of your heart chakra?

Now, based on your interpretation of the card you received, choose the energy you need to bring to your heart. Look through your deck and consciously find a card that represents the energy your heart needs.

Take that card and hold it to your heart, with the image facing in. Breathe the image into your heart, and feel its energy bringing healing, joy and balance to your heart.

You can use this technique to bring healing to your heart, or even to manifest a new friendship or love interest!

What’s Up on the Psychic Café?

Have you seen the brand-new episode of Christiana’s Psychic Café, featuring Tabitha Dial? It’s available right now on my YouTube channel, to watch at your convenience.

Tabitha is one of today’s young, fresh tarot voices. She’s a poet, and is included, along with me, in the forthcoming “Arcana: The Tarot Poetry Anthology.”

Tabitha and I shared tarot poetry, along with our thoughts on the ways tarot works to inspire our words and creativity.

Along with writing and reading tarot, Tabitha is also a tealeaf reader, and shared her traditions and techniques.

I think you will enjoy my conversation with Tabitha Dial as much as I did!

Keep up with Christiana’s Psychic Café on Facebook, and make sure to hit the Like button!

A Tarot Meetup Grows!

The March First meeting of the new Tampa Bay Area Tarot Meetup was fabulous! We met at Panera. Our group included professional readers, new readers and a few in-between. The brainpower and intuitive ability gathered at the table was astounding!

We discussed different ways to interpret the Court cards by rank and by element, and shared readings with each other.

We considered ideas for future meetings, and the possibility of larger events.

I think everyone shared my excitement about what we had accomplished together, and what we could do together going forward.

If you are in the Tampa Bay area, please join us!

If you are not in the area, or if you just can’t get enough, please join us for the online version, Global Tarot Circle.

Learning Tarot: Nine of Pentacles

The Nine of Pentacles is an excellent example of the way tarot card interpretations change to reflect current culture.

Traditionally, the Nine of Pentacles shows a woman alone in her garden. Originally, this card spoke of family wealth, and the way family wealth and power conveyed security and privilege. That the woman in the image was unguarded yet safe spoke of her family’s ability to provide protection, even at a distance.

Traditionally, the Nine of Pentacles speaks of family money, protection and inheritance.

In modern tarot decks and books, the Nine of Pentacles has moved away from the idea of safety gained through wealth alone, and speaks more of a sense of security overall.

Today, the Nine of Pentacles is often interpreted as being comfortably alone, comfortable in oneself, and personally and emotionally secure. While the Nine of Pentacles is still a card of financial security, we also now interpret this card to include the concept of emotional security as well.

Often, the Nine of Pentacles will appear for a person who is happily single, self-determining and confident.

Sometimes, this card can be associated with pursuits such as gardening, love of nature and animal care.

Next week we will explore the final pip of the Minor Arcana, the Ten of Pentacles.

Guest Bloggers: February’s Winner and March’s Contest

The winner of our February Guest Blogger contest is Linda Moore, with her wonderful piece on the Tower.

Linda will receive a copy of the new Japaridze Tarot.

We had a late entry on the very last day of February from Jules, which I’ve decided to keep in the running for our March contest.

March’s contest winner will receive a copy of the recently released Celtic Lenormand, an exciting new deck from U.S. Games.

The competition for March is already fierce, with an offering from Jules and a new piece from Linda!

If you would like to share your tarot musings on our Community Blog, simply submit your piece and you will be in the running to win March’s contest.

Once your piece is posted, get your friends to vote for it by rating it at the bottom of the post. The person with the most stars at the end of the month wins!

The more we share our ideas and knowledge, the more wisdom we ourselves attain. Share with us on the Community Blog!

Make sure you check the Community Blog regularly, and vote for your favorite entries!

Your One-Card Weekly Reading

Your one-card reading this week is the Eight of Cups.

While this seems like a sad image, it offers a path to healing, resolution and closure.

This week, take the opportunity to release yourself from old sadness and grief. Forgive those whose weakness caused them to fail you.

Now is the time to walk away from relationships, places or memories that no longer serve you.

Once you release the things that weigh you down, you will be free to explore an exciting new chapter in your life!

Tarot Topics 2/18/2015: Traditions

This week Tarot Topics celebrates the traditions of Mardi Gras and Chinese New Year! What’s underneath your mask? Find out with Tarot!

Traditions

Although the weather isn’t very nice, there are so many opportunities to experience different cultural traditions this time of year. This week we have Mardi Gras and Chinese New Year.  There are colorful celebrations all around us!

Many of our celebratory traditions include divination and manifestation. From the King Cake Baby to the Chinese New Year fireworks, many cultural traditions are rooted in our desire to predict the future, or create the future.

In modern times, we often observe these sorts of traditions in a fun party setting, without thinking about our actual ability to change the energy around us.

Chinese fireworks at the New Year began as an effort to drive away evil and start the New Year fresh. The King Cake Baby has always been a form of divination. Hundreds of years ago, beans were baked into cakes. Receiving the bean forecast luck and prosperity.

Many of us have our own personal traditions to divine or manifest the future. Perhaps you have a tarot spread you perform for yourself on your birthday. Perhaps you pay attention to songs on the radio, and find meaning within them.

What are your personal traditions to divine or manifest the future?

Be Unmasked! A Tarot Spread

One thing both Mardi Gras and Chinese New Year have in common is this. In both traditions, masks are worn as part of the celebrations.

Wearing a mask can be fun, or part of a spiritual ritual. Sometimes, though, we wear metaphoric masks that hide who we are from others, or sometimes even from ourselves.

Here’s a quick two-card spread that can become part of your personal tarot tradition.

Card 1: Your Mask. Let this card represent what you try to show to others, or how you want others to see you.

Card 2: Under the Mask. This card represents who you really are, authentically.

How close in energy are these two cards to each other? Do you want people to perceive you as you truly are? Does your presentation give you power, or does it hide you in a way that doesn’t serve you?

The Week in Review

This week, on My Dark Forest blog, I wrote about a type of communication that is becoming a lost art. Read “The Joy of a Hand-Written Letter.”

On my personal blog I wrote about some funny nicknames I have for certain tarot cards.

On our Community Blog I wrote about a Major Arcana exercise I tried in a class recently. How do you find love in the Major Arcana?

From Around the Web

Luminaria Star, whom you may remember from episodes of Christiana’s Psychic Café, has a great new YouTube Channel called “A Metaphysician’s Journal.” This week she honored Pamela Colman Smith, artist of the Waite-Smith Tarot, whose birthday was February 16.

From Jean Hamilton-Fford, here is an interesting post about “Loving your Doubts and Fears.”

From Psychology Today, here is a post I enjoyed called “Flow and Happiness.”

Five Tarot Cards that Speak of Tradition

The subject of tradition often comes up in readings. We feel guilty for not keeping our traditions. We receive pressure to uphold family traditions that don’t feel relevant. We struggle to make time for the traditions that matter to us.

There are particular tarot cards that may speak of these issues with tradition. Here are five of them.

Hierophant: A primary key word for the Hierophant is “tradition.” This card can predict a marriage, but it can also speak about dogmatic religious traditions, or those who rigidly adhere to traditions, and want others to as well.

Magician: The Magician can speak of learning specific traditions, such as a tradition of yoga, or medicine.

Moon: The Moon can suggest a regular observance, such as a New Moon or Full Moon celebration.

Nine of Pentacles: The Nine of Pentacles can speak of your own personal traditions, as well as the family and cultural traditions you inherit.

Ten of Pentacles: The Ten of Pentacles speaks specifically of family traditions passed from one generation to the next.

Tradition grounds us, but it can also limit us. Look to these cards to point out our issues regarding traditions.

What’s up on the Psychic Café?

Christiana’s Psychic Café began in December, 2012 as a live weekly webcast on the Para Encounters Network.  Now that Para Encounters is no longer broadcasting as it once did, I am continuing to produce new episodes as time allows, and debuting them on my YouTube Channel.

I also have an archive of shows that have never made it to YouTube. Little by little, I am finding those shows and making them available to you.

This week’s featured show was such an episode. The show aired in June of 2013. The name of the show is “Divination Exploration.” It features conversations with three diviners, Robin Renee, Mary Ellen Collins and Ambika Devi. Together, we work to understand and define divination.

If you haven’t seen the show yet, you can watch it on YouTube.

Next week I’m featuring a show from our first Valentine’s Day. I interview and have a reading with Ariana Lightningstorm. Ariana is a certified lipsologist. That is, she reads lip prints!

You can watch the show on the Psychic Café Facebook Page on Sunday, or any time on YouTube.

Learning Tarot: Seven of Pentacles

In many decks, the Seven of Pentacles depicts a gardener. The gardener may be laboring, or taking a short rest.

In some decks, the Seven of Pentacles has an air of despair. It seems as if the harvest will never be complete.

The Seven of Pentacles can describe frustrating, tiring or repetitive work. The Seven of Pentacles can remind us to tend to our tasks, no matter how unpleasant.

This card may acknowledge our fatigue, and encourage a short rest.

I believe that, ultimately, the Seven of Pentacles predicts a successful harvest, if we are willing to work and wait for it.

Sometimes the Seven of Pentacles is an admonishment or encouragement to “tend your own garden.”

Key words for the Seven of Pentacles include hard work, feelings of futility, fatigue and rest.

Clearly, this card does not describe a pleasant feeling. Sometimes, however, hard work is necessary and the payoff can be great.

Next week we will explore the Eight of Pentacles.

February Guest Bloggers Contest

I’ve been hosting a Community Blog for a few years now. Unbelievably, we’ve had thirteen guest bloggers so far, including notables such as Biddy Tarot, Mary Ellen Collins, Robin Renee and Mary Nale.

With our new website, it’s easy to contribute to the Community Blog. Anyone who wants to submit something is welcome. Your submission needs to be somewhat tarot-related, or at least spiritual. Hate speech isn’t allowed, and you must have the legal right to publish any words or art you submit.

You may use the Community Blog to participate in the Tarot Blog Hop, as Amanda Lee has done. You may use the Community Blog to promote your own website, as long as you add something of value to the Community Blog.

As an incentive to welcome current bloggers to our new format, and to encourage new bloggers, we will have a contest during the month of February.

From now until March First, all guest bloggers on the Community Blog are eligible to win a brand new copy of the fabulous Japaridze Tarot.

How do you win? Simply contribute to the Community Blog as many posts as you like. You’ll notice that our readers can rate each blog post with stars at the bottom of the post. On March First, the blogger with the most stars, wins!

You may share your post, and ask your readers to vote for you!

The winner will be announced in March 4th edition of this Newsletter! Happy Blogging!

Your One-Card Weekly Reading

Your One-Card Weekly Reading is the Two of Pentacles.

This week, you might feel over-committed or under-funded. Your resources, that is, time, money and energy, may feel in short supply.

You might be asked to take on an extra task, or a new activity.

You might have to work to balance your needs, and the demands upon you.

As much as handling everything isn’t easy, you have the ability to juggle your needs and your resources, and to accomplish everything you must do.

Don’t worry about a lack of resources, simply recognize your ability to multi-task, and to solve problems.

The hard work you do now will most certainly pay off later!

She will help you discover your personal style as a reader, and discuss some common pitfalls and ways to avoid them. She will give you insight in how to derive the most specific information possible from each reading.

Christiana’s virtual classroom is accessible using your computer or your telephone using the Webex app.

This is a special class with Katrina Wynne, M.A.

Lenormand is a cartomancy system of 36 cards popularized in the French court of Napoleon. Combined in unique ways they create understandable messages used to enhance your reading.

By the end of this 2-hour class you will be ready to start reading for yourself and others.

Bring your Lenny deck for fun activities. There will be a few to practice with if you do not have one. Great handouts are provided. The slide show offers a wealth of visual information.

The class includes helpful handouts. All levels of interest are welcome!

Katrina is traveling from Oregon, and will be in the area only a short time. We are asking for a $20 donation to help defray her travel expenses.

RSVP on the Meetup site, or just join us at Panera!
