Welcome to Spooky Season!
A spooky full moon behind barren tree branches.
Today is the first day og October, and Spooky Season is upon us! Americans will spend more than $13 billion celebrating Halloween this year, and we all celebrate in different ways. For some, it is time to decorate with pumpkins and ghosts. Others are busily crafting their costumes and planning parties.
Halloween is the time when the veil that separates the world of the living from the world of the dead is at its thinnest. That’s why I call this time of year ‘ancestor season’. It’s not that we cannot connect with loved ones in spirit at any time of year. We say it’s a veil that separates us, not a down comforter! Yet, it does seem that at this time of year, those in spirit are more often visiting our dreams and sending signs, and we may be more focused on receiving those messages.
I enjoy every aspect of this season, from the candy and costumes to the opportunity for deep spiritual connection, inspiration, and recommitment. Since I was born a week before Halloween, my birthday and Halloween have always blended into a month of celebration for me, which starts today! Hooray!
I wish you a fabulous month ahead, and I hope to see you at one of the many events I will be hosting, either in person or online.

Tarot for Mediumship
I did not know that direct mediumship, or spirit communication, could happen in a tarot reading or by using tarot as a tool until it happened in a tarot reading. Once I identified what was happening, I began to pay attention.
I believe that spirit in some form can speak in every tarot reading. Having the spirit of a client’s departed loved ones speak through the cards, or speak through you while you are reading the cards, is a very specific experience.
Each tarot reader is unique, and each tarot reading is a space where unexpected miracles can occur. Yet, over time, I have developed some thoughts on how mediumship can work in conjunction with tarot, whether in a professional or casual setting, for oneself or for others.
First, specific cards can indicate the presence of a loved one in spirit. It may be a card that reminds you of that person, or the role that the person played in your life.
Second, if we want to connect with a specific loved one in spirit, we can address that individual and ask questions, pulling cards in answer. If we can make the proper energetic connection, their spirit will guide the cards we draw and our interpretation of them.
Third, we always perform tarot reading, whether for self or another, in the sacred space that invites spirit to speak. We are already creating a condition where, if a loved one wants to step forward, we are ready to receive them.
Cards and Conversation Tarot Meetup - Sunday, October 5th @ 4 pm - Panera Bread in Palm City, Florida.
The Week in Review
Please join me this Sunday, October 5, at Panera Bread in Palm City, Florida, at 4 pm for our monthly tarot meetup, Cards and Conversation.
During our Monday and Friday livestreams, when I draw single cards for individuals, we notice that sometimes a particular card, or a few cards, appear repeatedly. I have started a new series on YouTube and TikTok, titled 'The Cards That Stalked the Village,' to explore the collective messages these cards may hold for us.

Communities
I have a couple of favorite Halloween memories from childhood. I lived in Southold, New York, until I was ten. There, every Halloween, the community did an amazing thing.
We costumed kids would gather at the school and march in a parade down Main Street to the fire station, where we would receive bags of candy. Our parents and other community members lined the streets to see us in our finery. The Halloween Parade was something I looked forward to every year.
When I was a bit older, we moved to Hartford, Connecticut. There, our United Methodist Church threw a fabulous Halloween party for our church kids. I was old enough to help plan and run it. Judging the costume contest was my favorite part of the event. To this day, I remember an adorable lion who won first place.
Now, communities host ‘Trunk or Treat’ events. I look forward to attending my grandkid’s first Halloween events. The way we host fun celebrations may change from town to town and decade to decade. Yet, our understanding that we, as communities, have a responsibility to provide our kids with great experiences that create lasting memories remains the same.
