The Fire Horse and the Wheel of Fortune

As you may know, when the calendar changes on New Year’s Day, we assign a Major Arcana tarot card to the year, based on numerology. We honor 2026 as the year of the Wheel of Fortune.
Yesterday was the Lunar New Year. Lunar New Year is the first new moon between late January and mid-February. In Asian cultures, this marks the beginning of a new zodiac animal cycle and the arrival of spring. It’s fun to note that the Western astrological new year also begins in the spring when the sun enters Aries on the vernal equinox.
In Chinese astrology, there are 12 animals. Each animal is associated with the lunar year. There are also five elements: Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water. Each Lunar New Year, the animal changes, and so does the element.
2026 is the year of the Fire Horse. A Fire Horse year happens once every 60 years. We associate the Fire Horse with intense, fast-moving, and action-oriented energy. This will be a year of passion, ambition, and cultural shifts.
I have a good feeling about the Year of the Fire Horse. I hope its energy will quickly bring us healing and improvement, both individually and as a society.
I felt the same energy about the Wheel of Fortune on January 1. The Wheel of Fortune is associated with the element of Fire. The Wheel of Fortune can indicate fast change. I have never considered comparing the Chinese Zodiac with the tarot card of the year, so I cannot say what I am seeing here is unique. But in 2026, the Fire energy of the card of the year and the Chinese Zodiac feels powerful!
The Wheel of Fortune and the Fire Horse contain a similar, if not identical, energy. In 2026, we will see rapid change. We will feel passionately motivated, both as individuals and as communities, to move forward and create transformation.
It is important to recognize that transformation can bring us closer to our goals or further away. How the wheel turns, where the horse gallops, and what the fire ignites will be up to us.
One thing is clear. We have all heard the expression, ‘strike while the iron is hot.’ Now is the moment. This year is the time. Fire energy moves us forward. Where would you like to go? The Fire Horse and the Wheel of Fortune offer us an opportunity. What will you do with your Fire energy in 2026?

We are very excited to announce that Karen Rontowski will be a headlining presenter at StaarCon 6! Karen likely needs little introduction. You may have seen her on The Late Show with David Letterman, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Comedy Central, or The Dennis Miller Show.
Karen is a professional comedian, tarot reader, and tarot teacher. She runs an online tarot school and offers private readings to clients worldwide. She keeps an impressive tour schedule with her Psychic Stand-Up comedy show. I happened to catch that show in South Florida more than a year ago. I was impressed with her knowledge of the cards and her ability to deliver deep messages in a side-splittingly funny manner.
Karen will speak at StaarCon on Sunday, October 4. We are so excited that she agreed to spend some time with us!
With the addition of Karen, our roster of headliners for StaarCon 6 is complete. We will learn from Pamela Chen on Saturday and from Karen Rontowski on Sunday. On Friday, your headliner will be me, Christiana Gaudet.

StaarCast 6 Virtual Conference
The StaarCast 6 Virtual Conference, to be held on the StaarCast Community platform, will feature three distinct parts.
The first part, the virtual preconference, will feature panels and interviews with the upcoming StaarCon 6 presenters, both live and virtual. StaarCon 6 planning and discussion sessions will be available to StaarCast members. Look for workshops and entertainment during the StaarCon 6 Virtual Conference preconference.
The second part will be held during the live conference from October 2nd through October 3rd. All main-stage presentations will be live-streamed from the DoubleTree Hotel and Conference Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. A special collection of virtual presentations, live meetings, and recorded sessions will be available alongside the live events.
The last part will be the StaarCon 6 AfterGlow. Members will be able to watch recorded sessions and participate in meetings and workshops.
All StaarCon 6 ticket holders will have access to the StaarCon 6 Virtual Conference events during the month of October. Full ticket holders will receive an annual membership to StaarCast Community.

Find Your Inner Fire
There are two specific ways to think of your inner fire. The solar plexus chakra, right below your ribcage, is the one Fire chakra. Focus on this area in meditation to allow the Fire energy to grow within you.
The kundalini energy that rises from your root chakra and ascends your spine to the crown is also considered fiery. We often refer to kundalini energy as ‘liquid fire’, ‘serpent fire’, or ‘inner fire’.
Meditation and breathwork are the best tools to raise your inner fire. It is important to be grounded and to seek proper instruction if you are unsure how to raise and work with your Fire energy.
Your Fire energy can help you feel awake, creative, and enthusiastic. Raising your Fire energy can support physical healing and motivation.
One of my techniques to find and focus on my inner fire is to take the Ace of Wands from my tarot deck. I focus on the card and breathe in its energy, consciously breathing in the fire to ignite my own inner flame. This technique is quick and always works for me. Try it next time you need an energy boost!

In honor of the Year of the Fire Horse, let’s talk about the horses in the Minor Arcana, the four Knights.
Traditionally, each rides a horse, and each Knight carries the tool of their element. Very often, when we see Knights in tarot, we think about younger people. As with all Court cards, there can be a depth that some readers miss because they insist that each Court card must represent an individual. Court cards can provide predictions and advice, and they can represent specific people.
The Knights speak of travel and pursuit. They may predict a trip. They may encourage you to pursue something that matters to you.
The kind of travel or pursuit is determined by the suit. The Knight of Cups will take you on a romantic holiday and encourage you to pursue love. The Knight of Swords will go on a fact-finding or educational mission and will encourage you to do the right thing and pursue truth. The Knight of Wands will lead you on a journey to explore creativity and encourage you to pursue your passions. The Knight of Pentacles will take you on a business trip and encourage you to expand your career and finances.
Of these Knights, the ‘Fire Horse’ would, of course, be the Knight of Wands. Of all the four Knights, the Knight of Wands is the most likely to be impetuous. This is why there is both excitement and a warning as we enter the Year of the Fire Horse.
