What's Your Social Energy?

We humans love to put ourselves and each other into categories. When done in a certain way, it can be hurtful, but when done to understand ourselves and others better, it can be very helpful. Astrology and tarot are tools we use to put ourselves into specific groups or categories. At a more basic level, a binary set of categories describes an important aspect of personality: social energy. Are you an introvert or an extrovert?
I would argue that for many of us, our social energy is situational rather than hardwired. Sometimes our social energy stems from trauma. Still, some people like the spotlight, and some are happier behind the scenes. Some people like to be out in groups; others prefer quiet gatherings, meaningful conversations, and time alone. Yet, even the most introverted people need friends, and even the most extraverted people need time alone. If we can honor our essential nature while still finding balance, we can be comfortable with ourselves and with others.
