Small Steps

Let us begin the year with New Year's intentions, rather than resolutions.

Woman walking in the woods holding a bird

A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

As we step into a new year, we think about the year ahead, and what we would like to change, release, do, and accomplish. Often, this process is called making a “New Year’s Resolution”.

This has become somewhat of a joke, because so often, by the end of the first month, our resolutions have already come undone.

What happens if we instead set New Year’s Intentions, and practice New Year Manifestation?

If we can turn our spiritual energy toward the visualization of what we want to achieve, we enlist the power of the universe to help us.

We must remember, too, that our journey is a series of small steps rather than one huge leap. We must be patient with ourselves, and the with universe.

If we can take a first small step, and then another, and another, we can achieve our goals. If we can visual the outcome, and be lighthearted on the journey, the universe will be our co-creator.

The StaarCorner

StaarCon is just a few weeks away. You can attend in person at the DoubleTree Executive Meeting Center in Palm Beach Gardens. Or you can join us from anywhere in the world on the Accelevents Event Management Platform.

This is a truly hybrid event which offers the opportunity for all ticketholders to view and review recorded classes during our thirty-day “AfterGlow” on Accelevents.

One of the things I am excited for at StaarCon is our Saturday evening entertainment. We have some original tarot-themed theater pieces, including a play entitled “Inherit This” by our own David Victor.

David’s play, “It’s in the Cards” was a huge hit at StaarCon 2021.

Whether you choose to join us in person or online, you are sure to have a weekend full of insight, fellowship, fun, and growth, and a month-long exploration of the topics you love most.

Tarot Intentions

Which tarot card, or cards, represents your intentions for yourself for 2022?

Find that card, or cards. Snap a picture. Consider the way the energy of the card(s) you have chosen can help you manifest your desires.

Use that picture as your home screen or print it out and put it where you can see it regularly.

Every time you look at that card, or those cards, remind yourself of your intention. Let tarot help you manifest your desires in 2022!

The Week in Review

As the year ended, I added another blogpost on my website. Check out my thoughts about the questions we ask tarot!

I have created tarotscope videos for January 2022 for each zodiac sign. Find your sun, your moon, and your rising tarotscope on my YouTube channel.

I am also doing a video for each of the Twelve Days of Christmas, which began December 25 and will end January 6. Since January 6 is the day of Epiphany, each video includes card pulls to create ‘Tarot Epiphanies’.

From Around the Web

At StaarCon, Katrina Wynne will explore 2022 as the Year of the Lovers. Read her blogpost about this topic.

Here is a great year ahead tarot reading.

StaarCon presenter John Hijatt interviewed StaarCon presenter Nancy Hendrickson on his podcast, Gifts of the Wyrd. This is a conversation you don’t want to miss!

Guidance on the Journey

‘Guidance on the Journey’ will be a new column in the weekly newsletter. Look to this column each week for tips on divination, new decks and tools, card interpretation and professional development.

As we begin this year together and consider the first small steps of a big journey, let us think about the small steps it takes to become a better tarot reader, for ourselves and for others.

One important small step we can take is to focus on the Four Elements. That is, Earth, Air, Fire, and Water.

In tarot, astrology, and many magical and spiritual traditions, the Four Elements of Life are cornerstones.

When we understand the metaphysical properties of the Four Elements, we more easily understand and remember each of the seventy-eight tarot cards, and each sign of the zodiac.

When you understand the elements present in your birth chart, as well as the ones that are missing, you more easily understand yourself.

A practice of self-healing is made simpler if we use the concepts of elemental balance to maintain our well-being.

In this first week of the year, dedicate yourself to a more complete understanding of the metaphysical aspects of the Four Elements, and how that relates to tarot, and to healing.

Among the many resources available, my book Tarot Tour Guide: Tarot, The Four Elements and Your Spiritual Journey is a great place to begin.

An easy elemental exploration is simply to do an internet search on the metaphysical properties of the Four Elements and compile a list of keywords and concepts for each element.

Then, look at your sun sign, your rising sign, and your moon sign, and see which elements are present for you. How does this help you understand yourself?

Now, look at the elemental associations for the four suits of tarot, and for each of the Major Arcana cards. How does this help you understand the cards?

Why Divination Matters

Divination isn't just for seeing the future. It's about knowing ourselves.

AdobeStock_210884788-2500x1667.jpg

Why Divination Matters

Most of us probably had our first contact with divination when we were small children. We might have pulled petals, one by one, from a flower, saying, “He loves me, he loves me not.” We might have pulled seeds from a weed and bounced them on our hands to determine the number of children we might have. We might have folded paper “fortune tellers” to use with our friends. Perhaps we twisted an apple stem while reciting the alphabet to discover the first initial of our future spouse.

These childhood games reveal our natural instincts to wonder, to predict, and to use items from the natural world and the artistic world to create tools to help us see further down the road.

Of course, those games from our youth don’t hold much spiritual power or divinatory accuracy.

Spiritual value and helpful knowledge come when we add study, focus and more complex tools to our natural instincts.

Many people, even diviners themselves, sometimes misunderstand the nature and purpose of divination. That is because of the depth and fluidity associated with the process of working to know the unknowable, to understand symbols and to find personal meaning and insight.

We are all curious about the future. We all want to know what might happen next. Divination can sometimes help us prepare for what’s coming. We can also use divination to manifest the future we desire. Divination can help us know what our best options will be. Yet, no one can truly know every aspect of what’s around the corner.

Even more than future prediction, divination matters because it helps us to know ourselves. Divination helps us to understand who we are and where we have been, as well as where we might be going.

Divination helps us understand the nature of Spirit, and how Spirit speaks to us and guides us.

There are many religions who claim to have a clear knowledge of Higher Power and the will of Higher Power. It can be a dangerous endeavor to hold such a limiting belief.

Divination helps us understand that Spirit is vast. We must listen carefully and discern the guidance we receive without hubris.

Many people think divination is simply a means to know the future. While divination can give us those helpful glimpses of what is to come, divination matters because it helps us know ourselves, and helps us hear the guidance of our Higher Power.

Three Hints for Tarot Divination

Tarot is one of the most helpful tools of divination. Yet, it is also one of the most complex.

There are so many ways to understand and use tarot that we often say there are no real rules for its use. Here, then, instead of rules, are hints to help you make the most of your tarot divination practice.

Hint One: Try not to see any card as always good, or always bad. Each card offers gifts and shadows.

Hint Two: Learn classic interpretations but use intuition to help you tell the story you see in the cards.

Hint Three: Remember that, in any reading, a card can mean more than one thing at the same time.

The Week in Review

After finishing my Twelve Days of Christmas: Tarot Epiphanies series, I wrote a blog post about it. There was a lot to unpack in the twelve cards I received over twelve days, especially because one card appeared three times!

You can find my Three-Card Weekly Reading, and the archive of Global Tarot Circle, on my Facebook Business Page or my YouTube Channel.

From Around the Web

People are turning to tarot cards for their mental health! Actually, this isn’t new news, but it is nice to see people writing about this.

Here is a tarotscope and yearly horoscope for 2020 from Cosmopolitan.

There are more types of divination in the world than you can imagine!

Cards for Your Consideration

This week, as an exercise, consider making your own deck of divination cards. This can be a great way to understand the process of random token divination and the meaning of symbols.

All you need is some index cards and a notebook. You can use a simple pen, or colorful markers. Being artistic and creative as you make your deck can be fun and powerful, but it is not necessary.

Your first step is to sit down with a notebook and make a list of symbols that mean something to you. They could be numbers and letters, peace signs and hearts, runes and glyphs, or any combination thereof. Find as few as six, or as many as you like.

Then, put one symbol on each card. You can use the unruled backs if you like. Again, you can be simply or fancy in the way you do this.

Then, go through each card and think about what aspects of life it could symbolize, and what it might mean in a reading.

Finally, to divine with your deck, simply ask a question a pull a card! You will be surprised at the valuable information you can learn with this exercise!

On July 14th our topic at Christiana's Psychic Cafe was the Four Elements. I spoke about the Four Elements from the perspective of tarot, astrology and magick. I talked about the metaphysical properties of the Four Elements and ways to connect with them.

Kendra Williams was our musical guest. She played an original song called "Rain."

I was delighted to interview Helene Martz to discover her views and practices regarding the Four Elements in her spiritual traditions.

Tarot by Christiana Weekly Newsletter April 18, 2012

art%20of%20life%20tarot_0.jpg

Hello everyone!

Do you know someone who might like to receive this weekly newsletter?  Send them to http://tarottopics.com where they can subscribe to the newsletter as well as read older newsletters in archive.

This week I would like to add a couple of FAQs about my webinars.

Q.  What equipment do I need to attend a webinar?

A.  At the very least, you need a telephone.  Webex allows you to dial in to attend as a teleconference.  If you want to attend on your computer, you will have access to the chat room and the white board.  If you attend on your computer without a webcam you can still see me, but I can’t see you.  If you attend on your computer without a mic you can also call in on your phone so we can hear you, or you can simply use the chat room to communicate with me and the rest of the class.

Q.  What time can I join the webinar?

A.  I start the webinar fifteen minutes early, before the official start time.  If you join during that time, you have a chance to make sure your connection is good and your equipment is working.  If you have a problem, you can call me at 561-655-1160 anytime in that fifteen-minute period.

Q.  Is it OK to join the webinar late?

A.  Absolutely – but if you have a problem logging in I won’t be able to assist you.  Most people do NOT have any problems getting in, and so coming in a little late is not a problem.  We will always be happy to see you there.

Q.  What if my password doesn’t work?

A.  For free webinars, the password is listed on the event website.  Remember that passwords are case sensitive.  If you log in within the 15-minute period in advance of the start time, you will have an opportunity to call me at 561-655-1160 if you have a problem with your password.  For a premium webinar, your password will be emailed to you before the start of the webinar.

Q.  Where are webinar dates and times listed?

A.  All webinars are listed on the calendar on my main website, http://tarotbychristiana.com.  The individual links on the calendar will take you to the event websites, which are http://tarotbychristiana.org for tarot classes, http://tarotcircle.org for Global Tarot Circle and http://celebratespiritualgrowth.com for non-tarot webinars.

Webinars are also pinned on my Webinars board on Pinterest and listed on my public Facebook page.  You can also join Tarot Circle Meetup of the Palm Beaches and Worldwide.

This online presentation will focus on these seven important cards. Students will learn the astrological, numerological and elemental associations for each card.

Students will contemplate the lessons of these seven cards, and discover how they point the way to enlightenment.

Armed with a complete understanding of each card, students will have an easy time learning ways of interpreting the cards when reading for themselves and others.

This Week’s One-Card Tarot Reading

Your one-card tarot reading for the week is The Seven of Swords.

Traditionally, this is the “The Thieves’’ Card.”  It reminds you to be careful of the company you are keeping.  In business or in your personal life, there could be someone with a hidden agenda, or someone who is not playing fairly.  Keep your eyes open, and be careful about whom you trust.

On a more personal level, this card asks you to examine your own integrity.  Are you living within your own ethical standards?

Other things to watch out for when this card appears include hidden health issues, or areas in your life where you feel you are not worthy of the trust that has been placed in you.  Chances are that you are indeed worthy, and just need to trust yourself.

Sometimes life requires us to be a bit creative, or crafty, in the way we conduct ourselves.  Short of out-and-out dishonesty, this card may advise well-placed craftiness to help you achieve your goals.

Read my poem about this card!

This Week’s Special Read

I actually have three special reads for you this week!

First, I invite you to check out my review of the new Art of Life Tarot Deck.  This very interesting deck will be available at the end of this month.

Next, I would like you to read my recent blog post “Stronger” from my Tarot Trends personal blog.

Finally, if you are a tarotist, you might enjoy my quick note about two-card spreads in my Tarot Topics Community Blog.

Have a Great Week!

I’ll be back next week with more information for you.  In the meantime, remember I am available for readings in my office in West Palm Beach, by phone or by Skype.  Just give me a call at 561-655-1160 or 866-99TAROT to book yours!

Christiana
