Visualize!

“If you can believe it, you can achieve it!” We’ve heard expressions like this from many different people, including Tupac Shakur and Napoleon Hill. Within this expression is a valuable clue to help us achieve our goals. We have to believe in our goals, and in ourselves.

There is another step that is not always clearly spelled out. Not only must you believe in your goals and your ability, you have to be able to visualize your success, to see your achievement before it happens.

The imagination – your ability to see things in your mind’s eye – is one of our greatest tools for healing and personal success. If you are able to imagine something wonderful happening in your life, it is much more likely to happen because you have made room for it to happen.

Being able to imagine and visualize our own well-being and happy circumstances is a wonderful gift, but it demands a bit of discipline to be effective. It demands that you relinquish negative self-talk and that you be willing to make positive change in your life.

If you can believe the future you want is possible, see it happening in your mind’s eye and take the actions needed to make it happen, you are very likely to be successful.

The Third Eye

Your third eye, brow chakra or sixth chakra, is the seat of your eyesight, your psychic vision and your imagination. The third eye is very important in psychic work. The brow chakra helps you stay connected to your inner guidance. The brow chakra supports your creative work. We use the third eye in visualization and manifestation.

The biggest mistake most people make when trying to become more intuitive and expand psychic awareness is actively shutting down the imagination.

You can see why this happens. We want authentic psychic experiences. We don’t want them to be “just our imagination.”

But when we shut down the imagination, we also shut down our psychic abilities.

In tarot reading, or any sort of psychic work, allow your imagination free reign. Your imagination won’t taint the reading. Your imagination will help the reading come together.

The same is true with creative visualization, the process of visualizing one’s success in order to create that success. If you can’t imagine yourself wearing a size six it will never happen. If you can’t see yourself working the career that you want you may stay stuck at your job.

Take some time to decide what you want in your life. Do you want to be healthier? Would you like to change jobs? Would you like to live somewhere else? What changes would make you happy?

Imagine yourself where you want to be. Create the vision for yourself and you will be on the way to making it a reality.

Tarot for Creative Visualization

A picture is worth a thousand words. Each tarot picture is an archetype that describes a particular character, lesson, activity, event, experience or department of life.

If you look through your deck you can see cards that describe things you would like to have in your life and cards that describe things that are part of your life that no longer serve you.

You can use these images to help visualize the changes you want in your life.

For instance, you can choose a card that represents something you want to have or do in your life. Visualize yourself actually in the scene of the card. You might become the card character, or your might chose to interact with the card character.

Allow the tarot image to move. In your visualization, turn the two-dimensional image into a three-dimensional experience.

You can choose a card that represents a problem in your life. Visualize yourself entering the card and solving the problem.

As you visualize with the tarot cards you will find solutions to problems. You will create new opportunities for yourself. If you can visualize it, you can create it.

Learning Tarot: The Moon

The Moon is card eighteen in the Major Arcana. There is a wide range of traditional interpretations for the Moon. Some see the Moon as a warning of treachery. Others see the Moon as a sign of psychic power. Others see the Moon as an indication of spiritual destiny made manifest.

The moon in the sky has always been a reference to feminine spirituality, illusions and intuition. The Moon card is no different.

Things in the light of the moon look differently than they do in the light of day. Nothing is as it seems.

When we see the Moon in a reading we are reminded to look closely, to use our powers of intuition and discernment, to discover what is true and what is not.

The Moon may speak to our spiritual path, and advise us to pay attention to spiritual matters.

The Moon tells us that we will not always understand why things happen the way they do. There will always be spiritual mysteries. In that, the Moon asks us to trust Spirit.

The Moon may tell you to pay attention to your sleeping dreams. When the Moon card appears in a reading it may be asking you to recall a particular dream and discover its significance.

The Moon also tells you to use your spiritual gifts – your psychic ability, your ability as a healer and your ability to manifest – to solve your problems.

Key words for the Moon include illusion, journey, spirituality, intuition, mystery, dreams and, psychic awareness.

Next week we will discuss Major Arcana Nineteen, the Sun!

Your One-Card Weekly Reading

Your one-card reading this week is the Four of Pentacles. The Four of Pentacles is about how you deal with your resources.

Often called “The Miser,” this card can discuss the presence of selfish people around you. It may discuss your own fears about lack of resources.

The Four of Pentacles can be a reminded to nurture yourself and take care of yourself. It may be time to put yourself first. You may need to learn to say “no” to someone.

The Four of Pentacles asks you to rethink the way you view your resources – time, money and energy. Do you worry that you will not have what you need?

What if you choose to view your situation differently? Might you be able to manifest a more gracious flow of abundance in your life if you had a different perspective about your resources?

Christiana's Weekly Newsletter

  January 29, 2014

Evolution

We are constantly evolving as individuals, and as a species.

Many people believe that the planet is evolving spiritually. They feel that as more people become aware, conscious and enlightened the energy of our world will shift and become more positive.

Are you aware of the ways you are evolving?

We evolve, personally and spiritually, when we make a conscious decision to use the world around us as a place to learn, and to use our experiences as lessons. We evolve when we become able to release the attachments that no longer serve us. We evolve when we discover new skills. We evolve when we are able to replace irritation with appreciation. We evolve when we allow ourselves to be happy.

Patience

It is so easy to become angry and upset at things that happen in our relationships, both personal and professional, and things that happen in the world. Sometimes it seems that people are intentionally stupid, cruel and mean.

The truth is that people evolve at different rates. Very few people in the world want to hurt people, or make things harder for people. Most people are trying to do the right thing the best way they can.

When we bear this in mind it is easier to be patient with those around us.

We also need to be patient with ourselves. As we evolve it is easy to say “Well, why didn’t I figure that out ten years ago?” Often we diminish the sweetness of personal victories with our impatience toward our own evolution.

One of the great lessons in life is exactly this. People are where they are. We can only heal and grow at the rate we are ready to allow. Evolution happens slowly over time.

Amanda Lee shared a post about her own evolution in “Milestone Birthday Pull.”

Joanne Matthew shared a tarot spread and a poem for the holiday of Imbolc, celebrated this week.

I contributed to my “Answers to Your Questions about Tarot” video series. This time the topic is intuition.

On my personal blog I wrote about love and romance. Read “Three Ways Romance Hurts your Chances at Love.”

I was saddened this week by the death of folk music legend Pete Seeger. My Dark Forest blog post is about “Memories of Pete Seeger.”

From Cosmic Tarot, check out these free, downloadable “Zodiac Tarot Card Journaling Sheets.”

From Tiny Buddha, here are “5 Steps to Reinvent Yourself.”

From Carrie Paris, here is her “Four Step Formula for Accomplishing Goals.”

Brigid's Blessing

February First is the cross-quarter day between the Winter Solstice and the Vernal Equinox. This day is celebrated as Imbolc, a festival of the coming spring. This holiday is the root of our own Groundhog Day celebration.

This holiday is also celebrated as Candlemas and Brigid’s Day.

Brigid is both a Celtic Goddess and a Catholic Saint. Brigid presides over healing, poetry and smithcraft.

This week, welcome the blessings of the coming spring into your heart. Light a candle, kindle a fire, and know that light is returning. Sing songs, read and write poetry, and find healing through your creative efforts.

What's Up at the Psychic Café?

On January 26th Daily Tarot Girl Kate joined me on Christiana’s Psychic Café, my weekly webcast. It was wonderful to hear about Kate’s tarot practice, her YouTube channel and her goals for her future as a tarot instructor.

We opened the phones for live readings, and really enjoyed the opportunity to speak with our callers.  If you missed the show, or want to watch it again, find it in archive on the Tarot Topics News site.

This coming Sunday, February 2, we will enjoy an encore presentation of our show from February 10, 2013. This was our Valentine Special, featuring Ariana Lightningstorm, a Certified Lipsologist. Ariana reads my lip prints on the air; it is fascinating to learn about this unusual method of divination.

Learning Tarot: The Star

The Star is card seventeen in the Major Arcana. The Star is related to Aquarius, and is often pictured in a way that reminds us of the Aquarian Water-Bearer.

However, the sign of Aquarius and the Star card are related to the element of Air, not Water.

I believe to truly grasp the power and energy of Major Arcana 17 we need to understand that starlight, not water, is what is being poured in great abundance. The actual light of Heaven is being poured upon the Earth.

On our journey toward spiritual enlightenment we have confronted our shadow self with the Devil. We have torn down structures that no longer serve us with the Tower. Now we are ready to receive much-needed healing, and to reap some of the rewards of our arduous journey.

We are bathed in light, healed and fulfilled.

In a reading, the Star is generally considered a wonderful omen – a prediction for healing and happiness. The Star is the card of hope and wishes, but also of satisfaction and fulfillment.

There is a sensual component to this card; the satisfaction of which it speaks can be on many levels, from the spiritual to the physical. The Star can be an invitation to relax and enjoy; to avail ourselves of the abundance that surrounds us.

Next week we will journey to the mysterious Moon, card eighteen.

One Question for the Cards

When we are in crisis we often turn to tarot, or divination, for help, understanding and guidance.

There is one question that always makes sense to ask during difficult times. This question will always help you on your path to spiritual evolution. You can ask this question of tarot, or any oracle, when you are dealing with difficulties.

Shuffle your cards. As you shuffle, breathe and clear your mind. Focus on your difficulties with as much detachment as possible.

The question is simple.

“How can I use this experience to help me evolve?”

When you see the card, the answer may be obvious. It may be that you need to spend some time in thought and meditation to understand the card’s message.

Each challenge in life is an opportunity for learning, growth and personal evolution. Through divination we can see our struggles as Spirit sees our struggles. Our struggles become our spiritual classroom.

Your One-Card Weekly Reading

Your one-card reading this week is the Six of Wands. The Six of Wands is the card of victory after battle. If you have been going through a difficulty, this card indicates that change is coming, and that you have the opportunity not only to survive, but to thrive.

The Six of Wands reminds you that you are a winner in life. The Six of Wands encourages you to enter the race, apply for the job or throw your hat into the ring.

If there is something you have been wanting to do but are afraid you aren’t good enough or don’t have a chance, the Six of Wands tells you to throw away your doubt and go for it!

The Evolution of the Tarot Topics Newsletter

Many years ago I started an e-newsletter to let you know about events – classes, webinars, workshops and Tarot Circle.

Over time the newsletter has evolved to include articles, tarot spreads, and links to great websites. I’ve started releasing the newsletter every week on Wednesday. I focus on a specific topic each week.

I publish the newsletter on my Tarot Topics news site, at tarottopics.com. Since the newsletter has grown to be so much more than a list of events, and since I focus on a specific topic each week, I thought it would be fun to help the newsletter evolve again, with a new name!

Is there something you would like to see me cover in the Tarot Topics newsletter? Send me an email and let me know!

Tarot by Christiana

  Newsletter January 22, 2014

Perspective

Perspective – our way of viewing something – can make all the difference in the way we experience life. Three different people could experience the same fender bender and have three different responses.

One might say, “I am so angry at the other driver! This accident was all his fault.”

Another might say, “I can’t believe I got into an accident. Why do bad things always happen to me?”

The third might say, “I am so grateful no one was hurt!”

In this example it’s easy to see how it is possible to process things through different lenses. Here we have the anger perspective, the victim perspective and the gratitude perspective.

People who make an effort to live with positive perspectives seem to be healthier and happier than those whose perspectives are based on anger or fear.

The next time you react to something in your life in a way that expresses fear, anger or insecurity, think about your perspective. Is the lens through which you see your situation appropriate, or is it time to shift your perspective?

Once, in a reading, I gave a bit of advice that felt like a direct download from Spirit. I said “You can’t let your emotions dictate how you feel.”

I’ve shared this concept with others since, in readings and on social media. Yes, we must acknowledge and understand our emotions. But we can’t let our emotions steer our lives. We have the ability to choose the perspective through which we see life, and life events. Being sad does not mean we have to let the emotion of sadness control our experiences. We can control the way we experience life by shifting our perspective.

Five Major Arcana Cards that Encourage a Change of Perspective

Tarot is about changing perspective in many ways. Each card offers information to help us see ourselves with clarity. In a tarot reading we are often given the opportunity to reframe a situation.

Here are five Major Arcana cards that offer advice a shift in perspective.

1.       The Wheel of Fortune: When you’re up, you’re up, and when you’re down, you’re down. The Wheel is always turning, changing us from one thing to another, and bringing with it new perspectives. The Wheel reminds us that, in time, everything changes.

2.       The Hanged Man: The Hanged Man says, “If you can’t change your situation, change your attitude!” Everything looks different when you look at it from another angle.

3.       Temperance: Temperance reminds us that nothing is perfect. With careful patience we can blend many things together and find the perfect balance and blend.

4.       The Devil: Sometimes we stubbornly chain ourselves to a negative way of thinking. We don’t believe we can, or should, change the way we think. Until we are willing to change our perspective, we are stuck in an unhealthy place.

5.       Judgment: Judgment offers the perspective of the final analysis. It allows us to see the bigger picture, and to put closure on the past.

What other tarot cards do you think offer insight about perspective?

The Week in Review

This week on my Dark Forest Blog I wrote about cold weather in Florida. Read “Fuzzy Cloak Weather.”

On my personal blog, Tarot Trends, I wrote about Major Arcana 13 in “Speaking of Death.”

On the Tarot Topics Community Blog I have a written and video review of Kat Black’s Golden Tarot.

From Around the Web

I am having a lot of fun building my YouTube channel. I’ve discovered there are a number of tarotists who provide readings, reviews and lessons for free on their YouTube channels. If you are interested in tarot, here are a few you might like to visit.

Tarot Tribe Beyond Worlds is Donnaleigh’s YouTube channel, packed with great information about reading tarot and Lenormand cards.

With costumes and funny accents, tarotist Beth Henry brings some creativity to her tarot videos at The Tea Room.

Daily Tarot Girl has recently changed the name of her YouTube channel to Tarot Readings by Kate. Enjoy tarot reading tips, reviews and weekly readings.

The "Don't Let Your Emotions Dictate the Way You Feel" Tarot Exercise

When you are stuck feeling badly, here is a tarot exercise to help you shift your perspective and feel better.

This exercise uses both cards drawn at random and cards chosen cognitively. When you choose cards cognitively you can chose based on the image, how the image makes you feel or what you know about the traditional card meanings.

Start by looking through the deck at the cards. Cognitively (not at random) choose one card that represents your current emotional state. Put the card in front of you, look at it, and own your emotions. Emotions are never bad, although they can be difficult to handle. We need to acknowledge our emotions, but we don’t want our emotions to control us.

Leave the card you chose to describe your current emotions on the table. Now think about how you would like to feel. Look through the cards and, again, cognitively choose a card to represent how you would like to be feeling. Put that card on the table to the right of the first card, but with some room in between them.

Now shuffle the rest of your deck. Think about making the shift from where you are to where you would like to be. What can help you do that? Focus on that question and pull a card at random to place between the two cards on the table.

The card you pulled at random represents the action to need to take to bring yourself to the positive place you want to be.

Now we see a journey of three cards – the difficult place you are in now, what you need to do to shift and transform, and finally, the place you would like to be. If you need further clarification of your path you can pull a few more cards. Use the wisdom of the cards to help you shift your perspective and take control of your life!

What's Up at the Psychic Café?

“Christiana’s Psychic Café” is my weekly webcast airing every Sunday evening on the Para Encounters Network.

On January 19th our topic was “spiritual community.” I was happy to interview Rhianna Mirabello of The Dreaming Goddess about her growing community in Poughkeepsie, NY.

Then we enjoyed a video from Live Bands Touring about a young band from Connecticut, Blessed and Gifted, who are building a community of fans with their spiritual message.

You can watch the video in archive on the Tarot Topics news site.

This Sunday, January 26, I am looking forward to a conversation with Daily Tarot Girl Kate. We’ll talk about tarot and online marketing, and see how Kate has built such a strong internet presence.

We’ll also be taking calls for free on-air readings, so get your questions ready!

Visit the Show Info page, and don’t forget to like Christiana’s Psychic Café on Facebook.

Learning Tarot

The Tower

The Tower is Major Arcana card sixteen. The message of the Tower is clear. That which is built on a faulty foundation can no longer stand. Lightning strikes and the tower falls.

Most people think of the Tower as a card that predicts disaster and devastation.

I think the lightning that strikes the tower is the flash of light that shows us the truth.

The Tower may indicate a period of difficulty, but generally one that is unavoidable. It is time to sweep away the old and make room for the new.

The Tower forces us to act, and forces us to change. Once we are on the other side of a Tower experience we are often left with a new, more level playing field, and new opportunities.

It is important to remember the Tower’s position within the Major Arcana, in the final third associated with spiritual enlightenment.

The Tower is a necessary stop on the journey toward spiritual enlightenment.

The Tower may represent dark moments and difficult times, but with the Tower comes the presence of a higher power and a greater strength. Even during the most trying times, the most uncertain times, Spirit is with us.

The Tower reminds us that if we fail to make the necessary changes in our lives the Universe will do it for us. Usually the Universe does it in a less gentle way than you would have.

We all have “Tower experiences” in our lives. Often these are the times that shape our character. The way we react to these “Tower experiences” can define who we are.

Next week we experience the healing that is so necessary after the Tower, with Major Arcana seventeen, the Star.

Your One-Card Weekly Reading

Your one-card reading this week is the King of Pentacles.

While a King might indicate a gentleman associate, either business or personal, the King of Pentacles can also tell us to take charge of our lives in a very specific way.

The King of Pentacles demands that you take charge of everything in your power within your physical realm. It is time to step up and be responsible to yourself. Take control of your body by eating a healthy diet and exercising. Take control of your money by handling it wisely. Take control of your career by being dependable. Take control of your personal life by being steadfast toward those you love.

The King of Pentacles tells you to invest in yourself, and promises you a secure future if you are able to commit to tending your interests reliably.

Sacred Space

We use the term “sacred space” to refer to a sanctuary where the only activities that take place are of a spiritual nature. We might also use the same term to describe how we feel about our home or our favorite places – that our space is holy and sacred because it is ours, and because we have created it so.

Many spiritual traditions go through a process of “creating sacred space” prior to a ceremony, healing session or divination. Many times sacred events take place in locations that typically host more secular activities.

Sacred space is essential to our spiritual and emotional well-being. We create sacred space with our attention and intention. We create sacred space through prayer, meditation, music, décor, incense, candles and poetry. There are many ways to create sacred space, from a simple and quick breathing and meditation exercise to an elaborate ritual with censors, crystals and robes.

Being in sacred space helps us be well and at peace. Creating sacred space in which to do healing work creates an atmosphere where that work is likely to be most effective.

Part of keeping sacred space in your life is having boundaries and claiming your space.  Holding space for yourself is just as important as smudging with sage or placing flowers on the altar.

When we spend time in the protection and connection of sacred space we are better able to manage the stress of the mundane world.

Creating Sacred Space with Tarot

I often say that a tarot deck contains all the magickal tools you will ever need!  Each card, each number set and each suit has special energetic uses. I like to use the aces to create sacred space.

Whether I am clearing the energy in my home or preparing a space in which to do readings, I often use the four aces as symbols of the Four Elements in creating sacred space.

This is easy to do. As with all meditation and ritual it is helpful simply do what feels right to you. Here are the basics to get you started.

To create sacred space with the four aces you can take each ace, one at a time, and carry the ace throughout your home, or around the area where you are preparing to do spiritual work.

Start with the Ace of Swords. As you walk, hold the card high and focus on bringing the Air energy to come and cleanse all of the stale and negativity energy away. Ask the Air to blow throughout your space and cleanse it.

Then do the same thing with each ace, one at a time, in this order.

As you walk with the Ace of Wands, aks the energy of Fire to purify your space, to protect your space and to make your space a place of inspiration, spirituality and healing.

As you walk with the Ace of Cups, ask the energy of Water to cleanse your space, and to bring to it the energy of compassion, love, forgiveness and healing.

As you walk with the Ace of Pentacles, ask the energy of Earth to bring the blessings of safety, security, and resources to your space.

You can return the four aces to the deck when you are finished.

The Week in Review

I enjoyed Joanne Matthew’s smart ideas in her post “Let’s Get Practical” on the Tarot Topics Community Blog this week.

My post on the Community Blog this week is an example of an advanced reading technique using number sets. Read “A Tarot Story Told in Twos and Fives.”

On my personal blog I was inspired to write a piece about techniques for energetically cleansing your home. What inspired me was a question a friend asked on Facebook. The funny thing is, I had already decided on the “Sacred Space” topic for this week’s newsletter! Enjoy learning about Five Tools to Cleanse the Energy in your Home without Fire.

On my Dark Forest Blog I wrote about a hip new language construct. Read “A Grammar Cop Turns in her Badge.”

From Around the Web

Check out Give it 100! This is a great website that encourages you to learn something or build something by doing it every day for 100 days. You videotape your efforts and share them with the world. Visit the site and see what people have been able to accomplish in only one hundred days.

From Caitlin Matthew’s blog “Soundings,” reading “Praying with the Tarot.”

From Toko-Pa comes this insightful piece, “Dreamspeak: Ancestral Healing.”

Read for your Home with Tarot

House readings are fun, and are a good way to keep tabs on the energy of your home.

The basic principle is simple. Draw one card at random to represent each room of your house. Lay the cards out as the home is laid out. If you have more than one story you will lay out each floor plan as a separate “spread,” but you can do it all at once.

All these readings will be done the same way, with one card for each room.

First, why not check in and just read the house’s energy? Let each card tell you the energy of the room it represents. The cards might suggest what the family might enjoy doing in each room, what sort of activities the room might easily support or simply how the room feels energetically.

If a particular room gets a negative reading you can do something to improve the energy. For instance, you can rearrange the furniture, put fresh flowers in the room, burn incense or do other energy-clearing exercises to change the energy of the room.

If you want to rearrange your furniture or have people in your family switch rooms, you can use the same technique to show you the arraignments which will be best for everyone.

If you have misplaced an item in your home you can read the rooms using the same technique to discover the room most likely to contain you item.

If you want to know if you have spiritual “hotspots” in your home – places where spirits gather – you can use the same technique to show you the places that are most attractive to spiritual energy.

What other kinds of questions can you think of to try with this house-reading technique?

Learning Tarot

The Devil

Last week we finished the second group of seven numbered Major Arcana cards with Temperance. In those seven cards, beginning with Strength and ending with Temperance, I see the lessons of emotional balance and well-being.

I relate the final group of seven Major Arcana cards with the journey toward spiritual enlightenment. That final group of seven begins with card 15, the Devil.

In the Waite version, the Devil holds two human captives, but their hands are free and the chains around their necks are loose. The humans can leave whenever they want, yet they continue their slavery.

The Devil asks us to examine the things to which we enslave ourselves.

The Devil asks us to face our shadow side unflinchingly, and to release the things that do not serve us.

As card 15, the Devil shares its numerological value with card 6, the Lovers. In the Waite deck the human characters are the same in both cards.

I think the connection between the Devil and the Lovers reminds us that many times we enslave ourselves in relationships that serve no one.

In a reading, the Devil can refer to addictions, mental and emotional issues, materialism, lust and greed. Until we recognize and transform these characteristics within ourselves and change the behaviors they create we cannot proceed on the path to enlightenment.

Next week we will continue the path with card 16, the Tower.

Your One-Card Weekly Reading

Your one-card reading this week is the Four of Wands.

A traditional interpretation for this card is “attendance at a wedding.” The Four of Wands may speak of a happy marriage, a happy home or a special celebration.

The Four of Wands reminds us that love, romance and friendships should create stability. So often we choose relationships that create drama and disruption rather than happiness and stability.

The Four of Wands counsels us that we can have relationships that are passionate and fun but that still contribute to our sense of safety and security.

This week, celebrate the beautiful people in your life who make you feel wonderful, and stay away from the people who don’t!
