Sacred Things

The word ‘sacred’ is defined as pertaining specifically to religion or deities. Yet I think we all have a sense of the sacred and the holy, whether or not we practice a religion. At this time of year, there is always a cultural tension between the sacred and the secular as we engage in holiday festivities that can be both fun and meaningful.
No matter our spiritual beliefs and practices, I think we all have a sense of activities, dates, and objects that hold special meaning. In a religion, we allow the ordained leaders to tell us what we should consider holy. Outside of religious practice, we each get to decide what feels personally sacred.
An item that connects us to our ancestors or a loved one in spirit may take on that sacred energy. The activities of a particular time of day, such as a morning cup of coffee, may begin to feel like a religious ritual. In fact, we can even turn household chores into sacred rituals of purification, protection, and blessing.
When we step away from doctrine and turn inward, we can decide what is meaningful and powerful to us. Whether celebrating a holiday or managing stress at work, we can call on healing energy to bring the highest and best to each situation. When we adjust our mindset to discover what feels sacred to us, we find our personal power.
A fairy looking forward to StaarCon 6.

Our efforts included several recent security fixes from our content host. Each fix must be checked to ensure it works with the existing system, which takes time. Your patience is appreciated!

Is Tarot Sacred?
Many tarot teachers, authors, and readers honor tarot as a holy text or a sacred tool. Yet, no one can agree on exactly which aspect of tarot is indeed sacred, and what that should mean in terms of the ways we handle our cards.
Some think it is disrespectful to shuffle the cards with a riffle, the way we shuffle for poker. Others believe that when we write about tarot, we should always use a capital letter, even though grammar does not require this. Some are offended by light-hearted modern tarot decks, such as Gummy Bear Tarot.
It is true that, when we first acquire a deck and when we begin a divination, most of us have rituals that honor and demonstrate the sacred nature of tarot. I also believe that, whether or not we see a particular tarot deck as sacred, the process of divination is indeed a holy practice that occurs in sacred space.
Tarot is intensely personal. What feels sacred and respectful for one person may feel disrespectful to another. What is most important is that each of us discovers how we find divinity and holiness in our connection to the work we do with the cards.
