A Year of New Beginnings
Happy New Year 2026.
Today is New Year’s Eve, and tomorrow will be the first day of 2026. In Tarot, our card of the year is the Wheel of Fortune. In Chinese astrology, the Year of the Fire Horse will begin on February 17.
While I am aware that the new year in the Gregorian calendar does not carry the inherent spiritual energy of an equinox, solstice, or eclipse, there is something powerfully magical about our global celebration each year as the calendar changes.
At the time of a new year, we make resolutions and predictions. We set intentions and do magic for well-being and healing. No matter how good the previous year may have been, we hope for and work to create a better year. There is something about the human spirit that will always press forward, wanting growth and improvement. That spirit makes itself known quite clearly this time of year.
Inevitably, we often disappoint ourselves quickly in a new year by not keeping up with our goals and commitments to our own satisfaction. Yet December 31 and January 1 are the two days each year when people wish each other well and hold a positive vision for the world, all together at the same time. There is great power in the collective energy work we will do as a planet this week. That magic is real and valuable, whether or not we stick to our diets.
This year, I am excited to hold a vision for healing, prosperity, and positivity for all of us and for the planet. I hope you will join me in this vision. While new beginnings happen all the time, there is something really special about a new beginning that we all share, and the year full of new beginnings that awaits us.

The StaarCorner
We have less than a month left in the StaarCon 5 AfterGlow. Are there lounge events you would like to see or offer before the end of the AfterGlow on January 26?
We expect to make announcements about tickets for StaarCast and our next in-person gathering early in 2026.
As we begin a new year, we are grateful for our StaarCon community and look forward to our new platform and new opportunities to gather and learn in 2026.

Tarot for the New Year
There are many New Year tarot traditions. If you don’t have a specific thing you usually do with tarot at the New Year, maybe this can be the year you try something new.
What are some typical New Year tarot traditions? You might book a year-ahead reading with your favorite reader. You might discover your personal year card by adding the digits of your birth month, birthdate, and the current calendar year, then reducing the sum to a number between 1 and 22. Find the Major Arcana card that corresponds with the number you receive (The Fool is card 22 for this exercise). This annual card reveals the themes, lessons, and energy guiding you for the year.
There are many tarot journals and planners available. Beginning a new one in January can be fun and meaningful. Or, you can make your own with any notebook.
Finally, doing your own tarot reading or tarot magic for the new year can be a great personal ritual to begin 2026 with clarity and spiritual support.
