What Never Stops
Time is always passing, and always changing us. Yet some things remain eternal.
I have a big birthday coming up this fall. It’s one of those numbers that ends in zero and feels impossible. At the very same time, I am having so much fun with my new grandbabies, who are now no longer preemies, and are developing and growing and learning every day.
All this has me thinking about the different stages of life, what changes, what ends, and, maybe most importantly, the things that never stop.
There are so many differences between people of different ages. Yet, there are some things that can and should go on forever in our lives.
I get frustrated with people who use age as an excuse to refuse to learn new things, when our curiosity and ability to learn and grow (absent of cognitive decline, of course) should never stop.
I feel sad for people who have stopped feeling love for their partners, when our ability to love never stops, and has the potential to deepen over time.
I can tell you that as I grow older, I have no desire, and no plans, to stop the work I do, which is so important to me and defining of my life.
Of course, there are some things we smartly and logistically become too old to do. There is a privilege that comes with each age which allows us to relinquish certain thoughts, responsibilities, and activities. Beyond that, though, I am much more interested in the things that bring us so much joy they never stop, and we never want them to stop.
What are the things that never stop for most of us? Our love of family, our enjoyment of nature, our creativity, and our inspiration. For some of us, our work. For others, travel.
What are the things you never want to stop doing and enjoying?
Whatever our current age, the more we focus on our eternal and ongoing passions, the more engaged and vital will be, for as long as we live.
The StaarCorner
We are super excited that Kooch Daniels will be presenting at StaarCon. Kooch studied numerology with Sri Harish Johari. She has been a professional tarot reader for many years.
Her presentation at StaarCon will be “Finding Tarot Secrets in Your Birthdate”.
This hands-on combination of tarot and numerology will be interesting and approachable for diviners of all skill levels.
Kooch is an author who has presented at many conferences, including The Reader’s Studio. We are delighted that she will be joining us at StaarCon 2023.
Tickets are now available. You may join us in person in West Palm Beach or online on Accelevents.
What to Keep, and What to Let Go
As we get older, there is always the question of what to keep and what to let go. This process starts when we are toddlers and continues throughout life. If there is an activity, relationship, or ideal that we think we might be outgrowing, tarot can help us determine whether we need to lean in or let go. We can simply think of the thing in question, and pull some cards to see what value, or what danger, it holds for us going forward.
We can also, at any time, perform a simple two-card spread. Let the first card be what happens if you let something go, and the second card be what happens if you keep it.
The Week in Review
This week I am teaching two free classes on YouTube. Last night I finished my Major Arcana series with the Final Seven Cards. You can watch the replay if you missed it! Tomorrow night we will explore how Venn diagrams help us understand tarot.
From Around the Web
Here is an interesting article about Pamela Colman Smith, the artist of the world’s most popular tarot images.
If you have even a small amount of knowledge about your natal chart in Western astrology, this tarot exercise from Theresa Reed is extraordinary!
Erika Robinson shared a recent blogpost that is poignant, instructive, and an altogether great read.
Guidance on the Journey
There are many tarot cards that help us understand our relationship to time. For example, the Hermit and Temperance can both remind us to take our time, and to be patient.
The Six of Cups may speak of nostalgia, or a longing for the past. In some contexts, the Six of Cups could remind us of the essence of who we are, no matter how much time has passed.
The Knight of Pentacles may speak of the slow passage of time. The Knight of Swords and the Eight of Wands may both recommend swift action and speak of things that happen quickly. The Wheel of Fortune and the Eight of Pentacles may both speak of things that repeat time after time.
What cards might speak of the things that do not change and do not stop over time? I think this is a very personal question because it could be different for everyone. It is interesting to note, however, that the infinity symbol, or lemniscate, appears on four different cards in the Waite Smith Tarot. Those cards are the Magician, Strength, the World, and the Two of Pentacles. Perhaps these cards may give us a clue about the things that remain eternal for us all.

Generational Energy
We inherit behaviors and traits from our elders from nature and nature. There is also an energetic component that can follow us around.
It is no secret that we inherit traits and habits, good and bad, from our parents and grandparents. We pass these on to our children and grandchildren.
We often think of this in terms of nurture and nature. Some traits are genetic, and some are learned behavior.
There is a third element, along with nurture and nature, that can be passed from generation to generation. That element is energy.
There are occurrences and circumstances that seem to repeat from generation to generation. There are patterns that can follow us over the years, even when we do the healing and self-reflection to consciously make different choices and heal from generational trauma.
Sometimes these patterns are obviously not related to our behaviors and choices, and yet they occur.
This is an energetic phenomenon, and so the solution to break these cycles of patterns is also energetic.
If you feel that you are carrying a generational energy that is not helpful to you, you must seek to release it. Use meditation, affirmation, and intention to bring awareness to the pattern. Then, actively seek to release it.
We inherit many positive things, tangible and intangible, from our elders. The energy that attracts unhealthy things into our lives is not an inheritance with which we must live.
The StaarCorner
For StaarCon 2023, our Friday program will include four intensive sessions. You will be able to attend two of them, and watch the other two during the AfterGlow. One of our intensive presentations will be a very interesting exploration into artificial intelligence as it pertains to tarot. This presentation will be led by tarot artist Ciro Marchetti. Ciro’s presentation will be three 45-minute sessions, with short breaks in between. It’s called “It Takes Three to Tango”.
We are very excited to welcome Ciro Marchetti to StaarCon 2023, and to experience this exciting presentation.
StaarCon tickets are now available. You can join us in person in West Palm Beach, or online on Accelevents. You can join us for a single day, for two days, or for all three days. We look forward to seeing you in January!
Break the Cycle with Tarot
You can use tarot for healing energy work. Simply find the cards in the deck that represent to you the energy you would like to dismiss. Along with those cards, find the Wheel of Fortune to represent the cyclical patterns, and the Eight of Pentacles to represent the repetition of those patterns.
Place the Wheel of Fortune and the Eight of Pentacles on the table, face up, as you visualize those patterns. Next to them, place the cards you have chosen to represent the energies you want to dismiss. As you do, visualize the specifics of those people, occurrences, or situations.
Then, visualize your life without these energies. Turn the cards you have chosen face down. Let the last card you turn face down be the Wheel of Fortune. When you turn the Wheel of Fortune, picture all that energy, and the consequences of that energy, leaving your body, and your life. Exhale deeply, sending all that energy away from you.

Guidance on the Journey
‘Energy work’ is a broad term that can describe energy healing techniques, magical techniques, breathwork, and other modalities. Energy work is what we must do, either with a trusted professional or for ourselves, to break generational energetic patterns.
We become conscious of these patterns when we realize there are uncanny similarities in our adulthood to the unpleasant people, events, or circumstances of childhood. If you find yourself asking “Why do I always attract these sorts of people?” or “Why does this always happen to me?” you may be carrying some unwanted generational energy.
It is completely possible to release the energy that causes those unfortunate patterns while still enjoying happy childhood memories, and the love and support of your elders and ancestors.
Negative energetic patterns are not always the result of a bad childhood. These patterns can show up in all sorts of families.
When you are ready to change the energy around you, there are many people, tools, and traditions ready to help you. This should not be an expensive or complicated procedure. Whatever methods and modalities you choose, the first step to releasing unwanted generational energy is awareness.

Give It Time
First impressions do not always give a full picture.
There are some things, and some people, we fall in love with instantly. There are others that take time to grow on us, or for us to grow into.
Whether it is a book, a TV series, a food, a person, or a philosophy, there are some things we seem to want to dismiss immediately. There are some things we dislike, or with which we struggle. Very often, if we give it time, we will find the inherent value which we didn’t see at the outset.
The need to give something time also applies to the learning process. Whether we are learning a technology, a craft, a sport, a yoga practice, or even something like tarot, it is important to give ourselves time to develop the skill.
Healing is something else that requires time.
Whether we are healing something physical, emotional, or spiritual, we need to recognize the sacred nature of process. Process always takes time.
When we allow ourselves time to discover, time to learn, and time to heal, we give ourselves grace and opportunity.
Sometimes first impressions are accurate. Sometimes, they are misleading. If we take time to decide what we want in our lives, we cultivate rich experiences and possibilities.
The StaarCorner
As we prepare to roll out the new website for StaarCon 2022, we are excited to share a highlight of StaarCon 2021 with you.
As you may know, StaarCon has the stated mission of honoring our art and artists. This included tarot performance art. At StaarCon 2021 we had three tarot performance art presentations. Those were The Tarot Show with Kate Mura, Tarot Improv with Mitchell Osborn, and an original short play entitled, “It’s in the Cards” by David Victor.
That play is now available for you to enjoy on our YouTube channel, StaarCast. Watch “It’s in the Cards”. This play is funny and poignant, as it captures many truths about tarot reading.

Three Cards for the Wise Use of Time
When we think about giving something time, we need to make sure the effort is worth our time. While patience is important, time is a resource that needs to be wisely managed. Here is a three-card spread to give us insight into the places where we need to invest our time.
Card One: What should I allow time to discover?
Card Two: What should I spend time learning?
Card Three: In what way do I need to give time to my healing?

Many years ago, I wrote this blogpost about tarot cards that speak of patience. Our topic this week inspired me to revisit this.

This is an interesting article from Elle magazine about a new wave of mysticism.
Cards for Your Consideration
There are quite a few tarot cards that advise patience. Most notably, the High Priestess, the Hermit, Temperance, and the Nine of Wands all have ‘patience’ as a common keyword.
When we think about the specific type of patience that is needed when we learn something, or allow something to grow within us, the Eight of Pentacles is an interesting card to consider.
The Eight of Pentacles is often seen as a card of apprenticeship, craftsmanship, learning through doing, and repetitive work.
In this card we can see a need to do something over and over again. Perhaps the effort is to produce the needed amount. Perhaps the effort is to learn the process, or to perfect the product.
In any case, the Eight of Pentacles can remind us that practice makes perfect, and that perfection takes time.

The Mundane and the Magical
This week we find the spiritual nature of hard work.
I do a lot of business coaching as part of my work as a tarot professional. I work with people to develop their entrepreneurial projects, just as I work with people to develop their happiest relationships, careers and home lives. I notice that often folks want spiritual solutions to their practical problems, when both the cards and logic clearly indicate the immediate importance of legwork and mundane tasks.
Meditation, prayer and energy work are appropriate and necessary to help us achieve our goals. Yet, as the expression says, God helps those who help themselves. Sometimes there is no replacement for grunt work, and sometimes there is little time and space for energy work.
I first learned this lesson when my son was an infant. Throughout my pregnancy I had done a great deal of ritual and ceremony to prepare myself for motherhood. I felt that I was in an elevated spiritual state, that is, highly attuned to my intuition and my connection to Spirit. I became dependent on quiet time for meditation and study, and for long walks in the woods and on the beach. I gathered with my friends to drum, chant, dance and raise energy.
When the baby was born, the demands on my time and energy changed radically. I wondered, had I lost my spiritual focus because going to the beach for ceremony was out of the question?
I then realized that doing the mundane taskings of motherhood were simply a different type of ceremony. Certainly, daily laundry wasn’t as much fun as dancing in the moonlight, but, when done with the right energy, it was just as meaningful.
There are times in life and in business when the only right thing to do is to chop wood and carry water. We need to make lists, set goals, network, brainstorm and work hard. To many, this seems the opposite of living a magical life filled with spiritual practice. The truth is, mundane tasks and magical practices are two sides of the same coin. Both are necessary for our success.
When we do our mundane tasks with a grateful heart and a spiritual focus, we maximize our likelihood for success and well-being.
A spiritual principle that is both Biblical and Hermetic is ‘As above, so below’. What happens in the spiritual, mystical, magical world also happens in the mundane, earthly, material world. Each affects, mirrors and influences the other.
This means that when we pray, burn candles and do mystical tasks, that energy has an effect on the mundane world. Likewise, when we do mundane tasks with the correct focus, we elevate our spiritual energy.
From there, we create a cycle of energy, flowing back and forth between the mundane and the magical. That cycle of energy lifts us up, and brings us well-being and prosperity, as long as we continue to nurture it.
See me in Tampa!
I will be returning to the greater Tampa Bay Area this month. From September 27 through 30 I will be available for house calls and psychic house parties throughout the Tampa Bay Area. You can also arrange to visit with me at my location in Wesley Chapel.
On Sunday, September 29, from 3 pm to 5pm we will have our Tarot Meetup at Panera Bread in Lutz. It’s fun, informative and free to attend, so please plan to join us there.

A Workflow Tarot Reading
Tarot is a great tool to help us set priorities and achieve goals. Try this Workflow Tarot Spread to help you get a handle on what you need to do to get where you want to go.
First, set a goal in your mind. What is it you want to accomplish? Are you writing a book? Do you want a new job? Are you promoting a business? Are you committed to becoming more fit?
Once you have your goal in mind, shuffle your cards and perform this spread. You can arrange the cards in any pattern that makes sense to you.
Card One: What I need to know about my goal.
Does this card suggest your goal is appropriate? Does it give ideas for achieving your goal? Does it make you want to rework or reword your goal?
Card Two: The resources that will help me achieve my goal.
This card may give ideas of where to find your resources, or help you discover resources you didn’t know you had.
Cards Three, Four and Five: My Next Three Steps
Let these cards help you make a list of the tasks you need to do to help you reach your goal.
Card Six: Inspiration
Interpret this card to inspire you as you work to achieve your goal.
The Week in Review
There is a lot of information about non-tarot oracle card decks available from those who don’t love tarot. This week, I wrote some information about non-tarot oracles from the perspective of a hard-core tarotist!
Did you catch this week’s Three-Card Weekly Reading? If not, you can find it on my Facebook business page and my YouTube channel.
From Around the Web
This week, these links all honor hard-working tarot professionals.
My friend and South Florida neighbor, Frank at Tarot Awakenings, wrote an insightful article about tarot interpretation.
Here is one great tarotist interviewing another, about a publication I was happy to be featured in! Read Melissa Cynova’s interview with Ste McCabe.
Here is an interview with Robert Place, one of our great tarot scholars, about tarot as a spiritual path.
Cards for Your Consideration
The Eight of Pentacles offers a number of traditional interpretations, all of which can speak to the need to put one foot in front of the other and accomplish mundane tasks to achieve a goal.
For some readers, the Eight of Pentacles is an apprentice, for others, this character is a master craftsman. Some see this as a card that says, “time to make the doughnuts”, or, time to chop wood and carry water.
In Ancestral Path Tarot, the suit of Pentacles is Sacred Circles, and honors the traditions of North American indigenous cultures. Here, the character in the Eight of Sacred Circles is crafting drums.
There is a repetitive quality to this card that can refer to a task that must be done over and over, or the idea that we perfect our craft by doing it repeatedly.
This card can refer to manufacturing something, as well as having to do a task that might be boring.
I love the image of drum-making here, since drumming itself is a repetitive task. Sometimes repetition is what is needed to achieve our goals.
While repetition can be mind-numbingly boring, repetition is also a tool that brings us to a trancelike state of meditation; that place where magic happens.
